  1. I like the scenario of Theriot facing RHP instead of Derosa. I don't think we've all hammered it into the ground here yet, but over his career, Derosa is almost as bad against righties as Jones has been against lefties. I really wish that Derosa wasn't going to be our starting second baseman because in today's game, you don't normally see infielders platooned, and using Derosa that way would provide the most benefit. Eric Patterson hits righties pretty well.
  2. Usually, but not necessarily. As referenced above, tickets.com has javascript that can remove the URL bar for VWR windows. I don't recall them using it on Cubs ticket sales in the past, but they have used it for other events. I'm sure there's a plugin for Firefox that can disable such a javascript. There's probably one that can keep them from disabling right clicks and CTRL-N, too. They disable right-clicks, but you get the URL from T icon link. Or somewhere like that. It usually doesn't take very long to find the address and someone usually posts it. Yep. I know that tickets.com activates some dummy VWR URLs that will constantly count down from 30 seconds and never let you in. They do that because in the past there was a way to go directly to the ticket buying screen by changing a few characters in the URL - as far as I know there's no way to do that anymore. You'll never get a dummy VWR if you click on the T icon, of course, so there's nothing to worry about if you don't alter the URL. I don't know if they have employees post the dummy URLs or not. If you're going to open multiple windows, it's probably best to get the URL yourself from the T icon.

  4. Copying/pasting doesn't work for all the time. Sometimes tickets.com disables the URL bar in the VWR window. It's still possible to get the address of the VWR and open up more windows, but it can get complicated for those who aren't good with computers.
  5. Marquis is getting $7 million per. Can't skip him. Teams never skip the #3 starter anyway.
  6. Ctrl-N used to open new windows. But tickets.com has disabled it on most on-sales now.

  8. Jose Cruz Jr. would have been a perfect platoon partner for Jacque regardless of the position Jacque ends up playing.
  9. Yep, I'm more worried about that one. Hill being pushed to middle relief would be the far greater loss. I like Murton, and I'd be happy to have him in LF, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Floyd outproduces him this year. The odds of Marquis outproducing Hill? Not so good. The Marquis signing might be worse than Neifi's.
  10. What guarantee? Some projections have Z declining this year and drastically declining of the next five years. We may choose to disregard those projections, but we can't just look at Z's numbers last year and assume he'll produce them again this year. I would trade Zambrano for Jered Weaver and Brandon Wood.
  11. I'm with you. In fact, I think it's a pretty bad idea not to skip the 5th starter when the schedule allows. Oh well.
  12. Well, I'm already in the other newbie league, but if you need a team in order to keep the number of teams even, I'd be happy to join. I have the time to keep up with multiple leagues.
  13. closer to a thousand, usually. Last year I was ~750 away and I was done at 9:40 If your wristband's been cut and put back on, they'll kick you out of line. If you don't have a credit card with your name on it, they'll kick you out of line. Good to know.
  14. IIRC, they usually go through 2 or 3 thousand wristbands tops before 10:00.
  15. Looks good to me. I can't wait to play.
  16. * I'd prefer H2H but wouldn't mind Roto. * Since this will be a first time for most of us, I vote for traditional 5x5 categories, however flawed they may be. It would be nice to have experience with the norm. * No preference on bench spots. We might want to come to agreement on whether to have a maximum number of innings pitched, though. Without a maximum, owners will be free to drop and add pitchers everyday, creating an advantage in wins and strikeouts (and to a much lesser extent, saves). However, picking a new pitcher everyday is not without risk. Engaging in such a strategy might negatively affect WHIP and ERA, and it's possible that an overzealous owner will drop a very good pitcher, leaving him to be claimed by the other owners. I absolutely don't care if we go with a limit or not, but if we vote not to have one, there should be no whining if one or more owners churns pitchers.
  17. I'm at work, so I don't have access to my Sickels book, but I don't see either guy listed on his site anywhere. I don't like it either.
  18. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=4908 For RHP Greg Reinhard and outfielder Andy Lopez.
  19. I haven't read all 11 pages yet, but I have yet to see anyone mention Z's projections. PECOTA projects Z to be considerably less effective this year than he was the previous 3 years. Furthermore, PECOTA shows a severe decline over the next 5 years. Note that his similarity score in PECOTA is 25. That's a very low score, and it indicates that PECOTA has had a hard time finding pitchers that a good comparables for Z. Maybe he is so unique that he'll hold up and buck the projections. Plus, Will Carroll's system rates Z as a high injury risk this year. Again, maybe Z really is some mythical creature who will manage to beat the prediction, but we should all begin mentally preparing for Carlos to spend some time on the DL this year. I'd do Weaver and Wood for Z in a second.
  20. During his peak years, Bernie was a great CF. He may be among the top 10 of all-time. Sadly, he's not that player anymore. .255 .317 .384 That's what PECOTA predicts from him offensively this year, and his CF defense would be beyond horrible.
  21. Assuming Koskie is a no go (last report was a month ago that he hadn't resumed baseball activity and in this case no news is bad news), the only way Braun breaks with the team is if he has a fantastic spring. Reports I've heard are that they will start with Graffanino/Counsell at 3B. Hopefully that wont last into May. Stupid Brewers.
  22. I really doubt that the Reds sell so many season tix and 11-game packages that all 42,000+ seats are gone before single game tickets are released. If they let ticket package holders buy extra before the general public gets a shot, then it probably will happen. I live 300 miles from Cincy, and I'll gladly make the drive for opening day, but there's no way I'll buy 11 games and hope to come close to breaking even selling the other 10.
  23. I've seen others here at NSBB denounce it, but it wouldn't bother me in the least if an opponent did it to me.
  24. You'd still get a crap signal. MLB sends the games out in a tiny little resolution, one so small that it looks bad enlarging it on my own laptop monitor. i heard that they are improving the picture quality this year True. The bitrate is supposed to be about double what it was last year. MLB.TV on a 25 inch TV was watchable last year.
  25. I know, if I were the Reds I'd have preferred to have more good years from him before giving him so much money. If he pitches like he did last year, it's actually a bargain. PECOTA projects him to be worth a little less than $24 million over the next two years. I like this deal for the Reds. Ideally, I'd never go longer than three years for a pitcher.
