Who threw 130 pitches in his last outing. There's a demonstrable correlation between high pitch count in game A and poor performance in game B. Just sayin.

I don't know that it's a bizarro pitching performance. You could argue that he was the best pitcher for the Royals in 2006. -
Of course. At the end of the year, Dusty will attribute Bruce's great year to the fact that Dusty only put him in situations where he could succeed, after putting Corey out there the other half of the time. Gotta build the kid's confidence while he learns the league, dude. Yeah, I don't think we'll have to worry about seeing Bruce more than a handful of times. Can't keep running rookies out there once the rest of the league has the book on them.

The Cubs were getting killed 9-1 at that point and both needed the rest. It turned out to be the right move, weirdly enough. Well, not to split hairs, but just because it worked doesn't mean it was the right move. I'm not aware of a whole lot of research quantifying the advantages of resting players or playing bench players (I'm pretty sure there's been more on the latter). That said, if there is any real advantage to resting starters periodically or getting extra at-bats for bench players, it was the right move regardless of outcome. All in all, I'm just happy the Cubs won. What a day!

Hopefully he does the smart thing and leaves Marmol in there after that amazing 8th inning he threw. Depends on how you define smart. Pitching him 2 innings after an inning yesterday would get the majority of people up in arms on NSBB. Doesn't everyone complain about how overused he is on a constant basis. Lose-Lose for Lou. I don't think anyone would complain about sending him out after a 10-pitch inning.
