  1. I've tried not being a fan. To my horror, I discovered it's a disease that has no cure. Believe me, if I could escape I would have long ago. I tried to become an Oakland fan the first time Dusty started Neifi this year, but I'm addicted. As much as I hate myself for it, I'm addicted. :)
  2. The CUBS ain't got no fight today..... why should we ??? You were feisty earlier today Fred. :)
  3. Serious? Nefi Perez? wow he never does that *sigh* *grumble grumble* Unlike Walker, he can catch the ball.
  4. Tends to happen in game threads - people get caught up in the moment of the game. True. But I don't think it would be that way if we thought it was just one game. Why should we think anything will get better? I don't blame the players - even Jacque Jones. He is who he is. I do blame our meddling manager and our just-extended GM.
  5. Average OPS of these 8: .621 And that's with Ronny and Mabry off to hot starts. Awful, awful lineup.
  6. I don't agree with all the talk about the Cubs acting defeated. Did Glendon load the bases because he was despondent over DLee? Is Aramis failing to swing the bat well because he's sad about the injury? Is Jacque Jones suddenly a bad signing because of Derrek's wrist? With DLee, the Cubs are an average team with a shot at making the playoffs because St Louis and Houston are worse this year than they were last year. Without DLee, the Cubs are a below average team. They're not sad; they're just not very good.
  7. Derrek's injury was a freak thing. But how many games did the White Sox lose to injury last year? Other than Frank Thomas, did anyone spend any serious time on the DL? What about the Brewers or the D-Rays? I'd guess that if we switched staffs with any of those clubs, we wouldn't have as many injuries. Injuries are sometimes bad luck, but they're often the result of bad institutional practices. Cubs management shrugs its shoulders when it should be holding people accountable.
  8. Barrett's not starting in a day game after a night game. Catchers do need rest; I'm not faulting Dusty on that one. I'll fault Dusty and Hendry on the construction of the team, though. We needed a bat in RF and we got Jacque Jones.
  9. That's a Cubs fan talking. Pujols is a once in a generation type of player. If he doesn't have a catastrophic injury, by the time he is done he will be mentioned among the greatest hitters to ever play. He hasn't even reached his prime yet. I don't know if Pujols has reached his prime or not, and Lee undeniably had a better year last year, but PECOTA projects that Pujols will be worth 2.5 wins more than Lee this year and 15 more wins than Lee over the next five years. Straight up, I'd trade Lee for Pujols in a heartbeat.
  10. I wonder how that would be ruled? Would be like at Wrigley when the ball goes into the ivy? Two different situations - there can be ground rules for a park, but not a player. I'd rule it a homerun.
  11. Well, he's not a jerk like Bonds or Sheffield, etc. He's not a recluse like McGwire was. He seems like a good guy off the field. It's hard not to like him.
  12. Sure. He's a great player. I've never enjoyed watching anyone take batting practice like I enjoy watching Pujols. He doesn't overswing, but he hits the ball a mile. I don't like the Cardinals, but I'm a big fan of Pujols - as long as he's not playing against the Cubs.
  13. Is it his soulful but squinty eyes, his impish smile, or his ample belly? :? :o  8) I fully expect you to change your name to ManCrushOnGlendon. 8)
  14. I don't think there was a 3-0 count on Luna. indeed there was Let's go to Fred on this one. I already acknowledged that he had a 3-0 count. Yep. I should have written, "Let's go with Fred on this one."

  16. Is it his soulful but squinty eyes, his impish smile, or his ample belly?
  17. Glendon is what he is. Not a bad guy to have around if a starter goes down. He's had decent success against the Cards. I'd rather see Wood or Prior or Miller of course, but he's not as bad as his first two starts.
  18. Earl Weaver's Fourth Law: "If you play for one run, that's all you'll get." Weaver's Fifth Law: "Don't play for one run unless you know that run will win a ballgame." http://danagonistes.blogspot.com/2005/04/wisdom-of-weaver.html
  19. Small ball, dude. The loss of D.Lee stresses even more the imporatnce of sm. ball. So the lack of DLee in the lineup means we should intentionally make more outs?
  20. Today could be the day he gets his first stolen base.
