  1. You know, after watching the side angle replay, I'm not sure Pierre caught that ball above the wall. Anyway, LEAPING ABILITY KILLS!
  2. Hill was pitching around Niekro b/c he 0wns Bonds.
  3. You mean get him out, not trade for him, right?
  4. Once, while standing near the visitor's bullpen before a Marlins game during batting practice at Wrigley, I watched Juan Pierre play catch with one of the Marlins' pitchers. Juan was standing around 2nd base and the pitcher was standing right in front of the wall behind the bullpen. Juan threw the ball, the pitcher failed to catch it, and it hit a little kid in the head. The kid cried for a few seconds, but everyone knew he wasn't hurt because it was a Juan Pierre throw. A bunch of Marlins pitchers autographed the ball for the kid, by the way. It was probably Steve Bartman's little brother. He did look a little like Bartman. Speaking of Bartman, I had great seats right behind home plate in the 7th row for the April 27 game against the Reds last year, the one that Corey won with a walkoff homer. The guys sitting next to me were talking business and sending emails on their Blackberries for most of the game, but I overheard one of them say that Bartman works at his company, and that no one ever recognizes him. I guess he'd be hard to recognize without the goofy blue turtleneck and headphones.

  6. Thank goodness Felipe is doing his best to prevent a big inning. Seeing other managers do dumb stuff like that makes me worry that the Cubs will replace Baker with someone just as bad.
  7. There were only 23 starters in all of MLB who had those stats last year. Koronka would join the ranks of Jon Lieber, Tim Wakefield, David Wells, and Jake Westbrook. I think that would be worth more than Freddie Bynum.
  8. What exactly would Brenly do different than Baker? How would he handle the pitching staff differently? How would he handle in-game strategy differently?
  9. A manager should teach fundamentals, put the best 9 guys on the field, stay out of the offense's way, and refrain from overusing his pitching staff. Are there any candidates that fit that description? Probably, but until there's a major change in the front office, the Cubs won't hire such a guy.
  10. At what point do you move Pierre from leading off? I don't know, but we could ask the Marlins. They moved Pierre out of the leadoff spot for a while last year.
  11. Nice to see Dempster showing no rust. Baby is crying. I must take care of said baby and then go to bed. Salut, real Cubs fans.
  12. The Astros started last season 4-36 and turned things around. We can do it, too.
  13. Wouldn't want to put the kid in a high pressure situation.
  14. A Fred sighting! Glad to have you join in the suffering.
  15. nope. really old rule. That made me laugh. All of you who bash Neifi will be sad when he asks to be traded because of the boos and ends up playing for the Cardinals and hitting .354 with 22 HR (most of them right-handed) and playing gold glove defense at multiple positions (mostly 2nd) and stealing bases and playing the game the right way and being a generally positive clubhouse presence although not signing autographs for fans who might sell signed stuff on eBay.
  16. He's our only big bat on the bench. We have to save him until he's in a position to hit a 3 run HR.
  17. Does Dusty remember that Dempster is in the bullpen? Maybe he could get a spot start since he hasn't pitched since April 12.
  18. everyone who has gone to bed or quit watching: you are not true Cubs fans. You're just here for the chicken wings.
  19. Ok, so how many consecutive losses will it take to get Dusty fired? 10 more? I assume you mean consecutive CUBS losses? No, Cardinals losses. Frankly, I don't see why any consecutive Cardinals losses will have any influence on whether Baker gets fired or not.

  21. Aramis should try to hit more singles to right field and then he'll start swinging the bat better and being a better leader in the clubhouse.
