  1. What Pierre lacks offensively, he makes up for defensively. Or not.
  2. Everyone talks about how conservative NFL coaches are - no one tries anything radically different - but the same is true for baseball management. Tandem starters are used in some minor league systems, but no one does it on the major league level.
  3. Not as crazy as some here might think. I know some clubs use tandem starters in the minors - each guy expected to throw about 4 innings. The Cubs have 12 pitchers on the roster, so it's not like they couldn't do that sort of thing. Hill/Guzman and Wood/Marshall?
  4. So how long until Len and Bob start drinking on the job? If i was in their shoes I probably would have quit already or laughing hysterically at this team every time they screw up. I think Bob's already on something, suggesting that the Tigers should hit and run and sac bunt with GLENDON RUSCH on the mound and the WIND BLOWING OUT.
  5. Actually he signed the extension at the beginning of the year, and the Cubs brass has just been waiting for Blanco to have a multihit game before they announce the signing.
  6. Len just said, "The Cubs are inching their way back."
  7. Only Dusty Maybe he wears the sunglasses because he's blind.
  8. Heck, the Cubs will probably rest Z and go to a 4-man rotation so that Glendon will have more chances to right himself.
  9. I thought the Tigers would have 2-3 HR by now, honestly, so I can say that I didn't see this coming. Tigers hitters need to bear down a little more.
  10. Correct, but as the leadoff hitter, he will not have as many men get on base ahead of him as he would be if he were hitting, say, 7th or 8th. That stat might be a rate, but it requires a man on first, so it is mostly about sample size and opportunities. Unfortunately, we probably won't get to see what Pierre would do in the 8 spot. :(
  11. Dusty needs to implement some clutch hitting drills during BP. That would definitely turn things around.
  12. Walker, Bynum, and Pierre are the only Cubs position players on the team who have hit into double plays at a below average rate this year. Move Pierre down the lineup and that would change in a hurry. Not necessarily because I was citing a rate stat rather than a counting stat. But Pierre did hit into more DP's at a greater rate than league average last year. Once the weather gets warmer, he'll start showing the Cubs his true GIDP skills.
  13. Walker, Bynum, and Pierre are the only Cubs position players on the team who have hit into double plays at a below average rate this year.
  14. Dusty should pull a Chad Fox on Glendon today.
  15. Which is why those who keep calling for Brenly to manage the team should pick someone else to support.
  16. No. Jeff Weaver will be the one who goes.
  17. Don't know what that pace is or what the record is, but there ya have it The pace is 210 -- don't know the record either, but that would have to set it. We've got a good shot at it. 17 more before the all star break and we'll basically be on pace. Getting DLee back should help. He's pretty good at GIDP, and he'd be replacing Walker, who hits into double plays at a below average rate.
