  1. I think we're in for a healthy dose of Hank White today.
  2. Barrett with a sac fly. Z's on the hill today, so I fully expect a shutout. No need to play for more than one run. Tomorrow, though, we need to play for 12 or 13 with Rusch pitching.
  3. GREAT! Look for Womack to bunt Pierre over here. That would be good solid fundamental baseball.
  4. I'd bat Murton 2nd or 6th right now. I'd put the lineup together as follows: Walker Murton Jones Nevin Ramirez Barrett Cedeno Pierre Murton is a double-play machine. According to BP's NETDP statistic, which measures the number of additional double plays hit into compared to an average player, he's #10 in all of MLB at hitting into double plays. I'd hit him first rather than second. By the way, this team does hit into a lot of double plays. Aramis Ramirez is #20 on the list. Phil Nevin, when he was at Texas, was at #21. Derrek Lee is at #29. Michael Barrett is at #31. The only position players who aren't hitting into DP's at a higher-than-average rate are Todd Walker and Juan Pierre. As a team, the Cubs are #3 in MLB at total GIDP's, behind SF and Pittsburgh. However, we're second-to-last in the league in OBP, so we probably hit into double plays a higher percentage of the time than those two teams.
  5. From today's Under the Knife: Could the Cubs be one of those teams?
  6. How exactly would another minor league start help him? It's not as if his minor league starts are any less stressful than a major league start would be.
  7. I asked Ray King to sign a cheeseburger once. He didn't think it was funny.
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=law_keith&id=2483498&campaign=rss&source=MLBHeadlines I guess Jim Hendry would fail the GMAT.
  9. I thought that Dusty wanted to leave way back in '03 when he put Lenny Harris in the leadoff spot. But now I believe he just thinks his way is the right way. And that's the scary part.
  10. Haha. Pierre, Arod, and Dunn would be the cornerstones of the non-clutch team. Latroy Hawkins would be the closer.
  11. Remember last year when we rallied against Lidge?
  12. This game is not looking good for the Cubs now.
  13. Really? What are they praising him for? They've said (me paraphrasing) Perez has had a great career. Perez is a fine guy to have on your team. There's lots of talent in Perez's family. They've talked about him being a great player on more than one occasion. Which goes to show that watching baseball everyday doesn't automatically make you a good judge of talent. See also: Marty Brenneman.
  14. No spoilers in this thread, please. I plan to watch while I work tomorrow.
  15. I think that was a bad play by Pierre, he should have atleast held Lane to 3rd. The ball was only looped into the alley and Pierre jogged over to it. Pierre is a gamer.
  16. I wouldn't care if there were a different batting order every day if the right players were in that batting order. We don't have enough right players to fill out a lineup, eh? "Right," in this case, is relative of course. When I really think about it, the "right players" really means "not Neifi Perez."
  17. We definitely agree there. The manager should fill out the lineup card and, as much as possible, stay out of the way.
  18. I wouldn't care if there were a different batting order every day if the right players were in that batting order.
