  1. Nice to see the Cubs winning with speed and defense just like Hendry envisioned. Go Cubs!
  2. How do you score from 2nd on a sac fly? Soriano stole 3rd. Then he scored on the sac fly. May 26, 2006. We will never forget.
  3. Mark Grace's line: "Hey, big girl! Can I buy you a cheeseburger?"
  4. Walker made a catch of a pop foul with his back to home plate. No way he could have gotten Soriano.
  5. Fred's right. their system is flawed. ARROYO?????????? 145 innings with a sub-3 ERA is very, very good. He won't keep it up, and there's not much distance between Arroyo and everyone else in the 3-10 spots, but he's been good thus far. Zambrano had several rough starts at the beginning of the year. He could move up in the rankings with his next start.
  6. at least we got our ace pitcher Novoa out there to put out any fires........ Out of 579 players who have pitched in MLB this year, Baseball Prospectus ranks Novoa as the 521st most valuable. Hey.... that makes him top 90%, no? Just barely. Not making the top 521: Jae-Kuk Ryu Mark Prior Rich Hill Glendon Rusch Big Z ranks #6, by the way. I'm stunned by Prior. whos the top 5? Webb Arroyo Santana Halladay Liriano Zambrano Carpenter Zito Schmidt Schilling Prior is ranked so low because VORP is a counting stat; a few good starts, and he would turn things around rapidly. The same is true for Ryu and Hill. Novoa and Rusch, on the other hand, would have to perform well over an extended period of time to rise higher in the rankings.

  9. You've never put on cleats. You can't tell him how to do his job.
  10. Novoa in. Clearly Dusty feels it's only fair to let the Nationals hit the ball a long way, too.
  11. Cesar Izturis can catch the ball and run fast. He's more versatile than ARam. He can play several positions, he doesn't rely on the longball to generate offense. He's a gamer.
  12. Clearly they weren't watching Pierre the first 3 months of the season.
  13. I think the board autocorrects certain spellings: If I try to write Andy Mac F A I L for example, it comes out like this: Andy MacPhail
  14. I'm glad Walker didn't try to get the runner at 2nd. Taking the easy out at first was the smart play.
  15. I believe he is referring to Shawn Estes in that quote. Yep. And by Baseball Prospectus's VORP stat, Shawn Estes really was the worst pitcher in all of baseball in 2003, so Sheehan's statement isn't just hyperbole. Estes sucked, and Baker sent him to the mound time after time. The #7 worst pitcher in 2003 by VORP (out of 676 players who pitched that year): Glendon Rusch. It's good to see Hendry has improved the pitching staff during his tenure.
  16. Interesting. I just posted excerpts from an article written after Game 2 of the LCS in 2003 that was extremely critical of Dusty. It might be unfair to blame Dusty after the fact for the Cubs poor state of affairs, but it's not like a lot of smart people didn't predict that these things would happen under his leadership.
