  1. Neifi kind of looks like Novoa's deformed mutant brother.
  2. I see. You'd think the stench would have given it away. Nah, the jersey hadn't been worn yet. It was as all Neifi jerseys should be: unused.
  3. Walker was just giving us an excuse to work a few "Neifi sucks" comments into the game thread. Neifi sucks.
  4. Did the Cards RF fall down? There's a brief but exhilerating discussion of Aramis's spectacular burst of speed a few pages back. The entire game thread is only nine pages long, so it wouldn't be too much work to go back and find it. :D
  5. Rolen's throw took Pujols off the bag. Larussa argued that Pujols still touched first before Marmol.
  6. Marmol runs through the stop sign and scores! Marmol! Marmol! Marmol!
  7. That is plausible. It's not just our perception here at NSBB that the Cubs are overly aggressive. According to Baseball Stats Inc, the Cubs led MLB in swinging at the first pitch in 2004 and 2005.
  8. He hit it to the gap and legged it out. Of course, if he had hustled more, he would have had an inside-the-park homer.
  9. But it shouldn't be that way. There are intelligent posters here who would disagree with me, but I'd prefer Marmol, Hill, Guzman, etc be used out of the bullpen instead of going down to AAA if they don't make the starting rotation. As stated earlier, Earl Weaver did it with his young pitchers, and the Twins are a good example for this sort of usage. The Twins have the best strikeout-to-walk ratio of any team in the past five seasons. Joe Nathan makes $5 million. Juan Rincon makes $700,000. Jesse Crain, Matt Guerrier, J.D. Durbin, Willie Eyre, Dennys Reyes, and Pat Neshek each make $370,000 or less. Eyre and Howry have done very well this season, but I would've preferred Hendry to use the money elsewhere. Using our own prospects in the bullpen would give them major league experience, and I doubt they would do much worse than our current pen, which is #17 in MLB despite the money Hendry spent in the offseason.
  10. Please no need to bring up Patterson. As was the case earlier, only relevant comparisons are allowed. :P See previous posts. Except that Patterson was traded to bring in Pierre. As TT pointed out, Hill and Marmol aren't competing for the same spot.
  11. Pujols gets an RBI by going the other way to right center. He hit a good pitch that was off the plate - not much Marmol could do about that one. If Patterson were in center, that double would have been a single, by the way. Pujols took second on Pierre's arm.
  12. Marmol got the lead runner at third on a sac bunt attempt. Aramis overthrew Walker at first trying to get a double play. Jones' throw missed Barrett at the plate (trying to get Marquis), but Marmol had the play backed up.
  13. Hit and run results in a double play. I'd love to see hit and run success stats.
  14. So maybe we should go the Earl Weaver/Minnesota Twins route and use him regularly in low-leverage long relief situations for a few months before moving him to the rotation. At any rate, he has absolutely nothing left to prove in AAA, and I see no benefit to playing him at that level any longer.
  15. What pitching is available? The Brewers are too far out of the race to rent a difference-making starter, trading for middle relief is not smart, and TNSSAAPP. I think Lee got a very good return considering he's just a two month rental.
  16. This is a good deal for the Brewers. They have only a 4 percent chance of making the playoffs this year, so it would make little sense to hold onto Lee and let him walk in the offseason. Mench isn't eligible for free agency until after 2008, so they'll have him the next two years. PECOTA sees him as a 3.4 WARP player next year. Lee is projected at 3.8, so while Mench probably won't match Lee's production, he should come awfully close. Corey Hart (who has a .385 OBP right now) projects to have a 3.7 WARP next year. This trade paves the way for Hart to play every day, and it will allow the Brewers to platoon Mench and Jenkins - if they go that route (and I think they should) before trading Jenkins at the deadline next year. The Rangers have a very good shot at the postseason, and Lee should help. It looks like a good deal for both teams.
  17. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5355 As reported in the Trib today, the Mets are asking about Maddux. Maddux, however, would rather go to the Dodgers or the Dbacks.
  18. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5355 One source says they've offered Ensberg, Everett, and Nieve.
  19. Brenly questioned that. He wondered why Dusty didn't just let Rusch walk Pujols.
  20. ESPN became irrelevant a long time ago. I don't care what they say.
