I'm happy with the Cubs 4-1 record including a sweep of the Cards! I had modest early goals for the Cubs, hoping to hover around .500 until Wood and Prior returned before making our run. So far they have exceeded my expectations and I'm happy with the results at this point.

Great player, sure, but great man, no. Thus, no immunity from good jokes. :lol: I am familiar with the reality of Kirby off the field. But Jacque is just being a good guy trying to honor the man for his achievements between the chalk. It's all good. I know Jacque has to produce on the field otherwise he will get heat here. I'm just hoping it happens. I'm pretty happy-go-lucky, don't take me too serious now! :wink: Fair enough. Go Cubs!

I don't think that's the point. He's still better than Konerko so expect his contract to be in that neighborhood. The Cubs don't want him to become a FA and have other teams attempt to drive up the price. I'm sure some teams would be very willing to overpay so the Cubs will want to be generous without breaking the bank. The best time to do that is now. But Konerko won a world series so he's clutch or something. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Lee get a lesser contract than Konerko. So again...how does winning a World Series = clutch? I mean Konerko was solid during the playoffs, and outside of maybe Game 2 of the World Series, where he hit the Grand Slam, nobody outside of the White Sox had even heard of Konerko. The Sox pitchers were clutch. Konerko was pretty good throughout the playoffs. Versus Boston in the ALDS, he hit home runs in games 1 & 3. Versus Anaheim in the ALCS, he hit home runs in games 3 & 4. In the World Series, Konerko hit that huge grand slam that you mentioned. 5 home runs in 12 postseason games is great. That said, D Lee deserves, and will get a bigger contract. -
Nice insight. I didn't know that about Barmes. I'm now going to drop Barmes for Hardy, who is a FA.

I don't think either of them is an upgrade to Crosby. I agree. I want to keep Crosby as my starter and upgrade my backup SS with Barmes or Hardy.

What makes you say Hardy should be a very productive fantasy SS? I'm only asking because I'm a newb fantasy player, and looking at the stats, Barmes's 2005 seems more productive than Hardy's.

I have Crosby and Ellis and looking to upgrade. I am looking at Barmes and Hardy. Hardy is getting a lot of praise, partly because of the lineup he's in, but Barmes does play in Colorado. I don't know anything about Hardy; how does he project?

Que paso? Without having any knowledge of what happened, I'd bet it was no big deal and Maddux would have known if there was a problem or not. Barrett went out, if there had been an issue, then he would have. Either way, I hope Maddux is taken out of this one. The lead is safe with this bullpen. -

You're right about Freel, he was on my wish list before the draft, and Murton, Bradley and Castillo have also been drafted. I can't believe there's an MLB player named Abercrombie! :lol: Is starting a SB threat who is bad in every other offensive category poor strategy if the guy whose spot he's taking is better in every other offensive category?

Based on your and B's suggestion, I will rescind my waiver request on Barrett but I will still try to acquire him as a FA. Thanks for the insight guys. /I researched the catchers you suggested and have just added Ryan Doumit to my team. He will be waived if I get Barrett.

Another newb question: I have no base stealers on my team and I don't want to concede that category every week. Any suggestions as to a FA I can pick up for this purpose while not killing me in every other offensive category? Matt Lawton is the best I could come up with :oops:
