  1. Existing teams get to keep 4. Our rosters will hold 8. ONce everyone's rosters are set, you will get to keep 8 at all times. So you have to drop minor leaguers at the end of the year? Why not just get to keep all 8? No. The only reason that return owners are keeping only 4 is because if we kept all of our players from last season, you new folks would have much much less to pick through. Trust me, this is best for you and the 7 other new guys. In the future, you can keep up to 8 during the offseason, so long as they meet the criteria as set in the rules.
  2. Obviously no pitching, but your offense is potent.
  3. Clint... Are those two not checking in here? Is there something we need to do to grant them access? I know Dustin has it, so not sure why he's having you submit his info? It's not a problem at all, it's just.... odd.
  4. On Number 2: The teams who are carry overs get to submit their list of 5 keepers and 4 Minor League keepers. Some time before the draft, all new teams will get to have an expansion draft, selecting 5 MLB players and 4 MiLB players. ONce this has been completed, everyone will be on the same ground, and we will hold our draft. Because half of this league has been working on their rosters for years, and this new league formed out of that league, it was only fair to allow old owners to select keepers and not make them start from scratch. New teams are NOT taking over old rosters. Every player from those rosters (which includes some HUGE names) will go into the expansion draft, and then into the league draft if not selected. Same for Minor Leaguers. Much of this is covered in other messages in this forum, so lease look around a bit. You might find answers already posted. If not, feel free to ask as many questions as you have.
  5. Original message explained that it was a league that had already existed but that the former commish was not renewing. You are taking the role of expansion team, as are the other 7 new owners. The 8 teams who are continuing get to keep 5 of their MLB players (without concern for points) and 4 of their MiLB players. Each team had 10 minor leaguers, so this is a significant cut for each of us. Some teams had worked their keepers to keep u to around 16 or 17 players (new rules will change this, but you can ee that that was a significant drop for some of us- myself included). Your third question/assumption is not correct. CBS allows us to keep Minor leaguers, and all transactions are done on there. This forum is just a nice reseource to have during the offseason when you will have to name keepers, want to discuss trades, etc....

  7. The more I think about it, the more I like a 3 division setup. Put an extra team in one division and call it a day? 3 Division winners and one wild card team make the playoffs? Wild card is team with best overall record who does not win their division. First tie breaker is head to head. Second is total points.
  8. The Top 40 players will be off the board? Have you even bothered to look at the rosters of owners who have stayed in the league? Carlos Beltran, ARod, Pujols, and reigning AL MVP Dustin Pedroia are just a few names on the list of available players. Tim Lincecum, Ervin Santana, and John Lackey are all pitchers who will be. If one owner does not respond by the deadline, Joe Mauer, RYan Howard, Chase Utley, Carlos Zambrano, and Roy Halladay will also be added into the mix. Trust me, bum, there will be plenty out there. You will see. Glad you're in the forum, btw! (And responding to your post in another thread, we're keeping 4 minor leaguers, but there will be a boatload of god ones available. You'll see.) Ah didn't know there were teams that weren't kept. Still getting up to speed at this point. Yeah, 4 or 5 teams (including the defending champions, potentially) were abandoned, leaving TONS of good talent available. It might even hurt a couple of teams to have to keep players, to be honest. Heck, I gave up Carlos Beltran, KRod, and David Ortiz, myself.
  9. It has been generated by CBS, but until everyone has joined (still awaiting 2 owners) and paid, it's not finalized. You should know by Friday of this week. Have you voted on fees and payout yet? Once that poll is closed, everyone can pay. Until it has closed, there is no way to know how much it will cost.
  10. Matt... you only get to keep 4 minor leaguers. Also, Balentin has surpassed the Minor League eligibility mark. To keep him, you must keep him as a Major leaguer. Same for Ian Kennedy and Josh Fields. All have surpassed the rookie marks. (For the record, this is the same rule as in the past, so please don't think we've changed this to screw you out of any players.)

  12. You can reclaim up to 5 of them.

  15. From reading the setup info, from what I can tell, it looks like we can enter our current keepers as draft picks. Then the new members of the league will be able to make their selections from the FA pool from rounds 1 through 5 without the rest of us having to make selections. Then once Round 6 comes around everyone will be caught up. For the minor league players we should be able to do the same thing except place them in the last four rounds of the draft. Hosak, have you looked into this yet? If so, do you come to the same conclusion? I hadn't landed anywhere yet, but I was hoping to get everyone's roster input next week (once I have received payment from everyone and can pay for the league, I can then enter players onto teams) and then go from there. I was initially thinking to get our rosters done and then have a 5 round draft with the other 8 via message board on the site, and then do a 4 round minor league draft the same way. That way, on draft day, there is no confusion about who can draft which players, and such. Once I've paid for the league and can access rosters, I will get them set up and see what options are available for the draft. Another benefit to doing it this way is that draft day won't be a 33 round marathon. It will still be a 24 round monster, but that is still a savings of about an hour and a half, potentially. This draft is going to be LOOOONG. ONce we set the draft, people will probably need to pack a lunch and get comfy. Those who come in unprepared will suffer... as will the rest of us.

  17. I wonder why? We should be able to change that. Poor choice of words on my part. I chose 8 as the number because it's just easier to manage. If every team carries the full 8 players, that is 128 players (already 8 more than the former league) and if we did 10 per team, that would be 160 minor leaguers. A second reason is that we expanded the Major League roster to 25 from 22 (or was it 23?). We're already giving ourselves a huge job, in terms of keeping up with players and legal rosters, and I just think this way, it's more manageable for now. If we all feel that having 2 more would be better, then going into 2010, we can add those 2 positions back in. Most teams had crap at the bottom of their Minor League teams already, and if we all have 10, we're just claiming players who will likely have no true impact on the league ever. When that becomes true, people lose interest. No one wants to trade for Nate Frese, ya know?
  18. Slainte and SoCal, you need to get signed up as quickly as possible, please. SoCal, I still need your email address. Thanks, fellas.
  19. Hey everyone... The roster deadline has been set as 12:00 pm EST on Thursday, 2:26. At that time, you must have submitted your 5 MLB keepers (points will not be considered) and your 4 Minor Leaguers (Minor Leaguers will be any player with fewer than 130 Career AB's or 50 Career IP's). The reason I settled on 4 is that the new format only allows us 8 Minor Leaguers, and keeping more than half really limits the 8 new players. Please list your keepers here, and I will add those players to your rosters on the 26th. If you have already dropped players from your team in the old league, you can reclaim them in your current keeper list.
  20. Should be fixed. Dustin somehow took your spot instead of his own. I changed his spot back to himself, and now you should be fine to fit in.
  21. Here are my suggestions: 1) ok with reseting draft picks...how do you determine draft order? 2) 5 keepers (exempt and non-exempt)...and 5 minor leaguers...any player with less than 130 AB and 50 IP is considered minor leaguers 3) i actually like 3 divisions with each division winners plus a wild card going to the playoffs...if there is a tie, best record, then best record against each other, then division record, etc. 4) i will pay by paypal 5) i can draft anytime as long as i know the schedule ahead of time Great suggestions, Roady. Thanks for the input. It is 2-1 on 5 Minor leaguers, so it looks like 5 may be the number we end up with. Again, another sell for a smaller amount is that the new teams' draft will be shorter and we can get to the league draft more quickly, but I am fine with 5 if that's what everyone wants to do. The draft is pretty randomly generated. CBS does that for us. 3 divisions, huh? Would it bother anyone else that one division would have more teams than the others, or is that just Obsessive/Compulsive me? Once my paypal has been updated, I will give you the info. With 16 teams, we can do $13 bucks and that, along with a similar number next year should buy 4 Playoff owners a free entry next year. Draft date will be set once all teams are legal and the new guys have had their "expansion draft."
  22. The first year of the league we played 2 games per week. 2006 = 30-16 (missed playoffs by 1 game) 2007 = 17-6 (tied with Roady for 2nd and lost tie-breaker by less than 10 points) 2008 = 18-5(won division and then team decided to have mental breakdown against MM in 1st round) You don't have to be bitter just because you can't get over the 6 win plateau. ;) :blackeye: You got thoughts on the other forum stuff that I suggested? Also, if you can get onto DSB and Jiddy about getting signed in, that would be helpful. Nick is out, unless we need him. Not sure about the money and also not sure he can keep up with minor leaguers enough. I want to set a deadline for people to claim their teams, and if they do not, we delete those teams and either shrink to 14 teams or give one team back to Nick. Hit me up over in the secret forum. :ninja:
  23. (65-27 in three seasons)....championships are overrated. :-" How have you played 92 games in 3 years in a league with 23 game regular seasons? Also, championships are what you play for. Good records are the solace of the weak.
  24. How many championships have you won, again? :blackeye:
  25. Mooch... I like the idea of keeping 4 Minor Leaguers, but am afraid that 5 would be a few too many. Not by much, but enough that the new guys start with a disadvantage in that area. So, can we settle on 4? One other point- on the two divisions. My only concern with 2 Divisions is that Top 2 from each hurts us when the 2nd team in one division is worse than the 4th in the other. The reason I like 4 divisions is that you take ONLY champions and no Wild Cards. Even if you win the worst division, you have still won something. I'd really like for a couple of others to chime in with a vote here. I can def be swayed, I just like the idea of champs moving on and all others staying home. I have you set up with commissioner duties. We just need to get everyone checked in and paid up. Setting rosters pre-draft and then filling new teams rosters will be a bit tricky, especially without having everyone on NSBB. We've got our work cut out for us in that respect. Let's set a deadline of mid-next week for current owners to have their rosters ready, and we'll get the new rosters put together before setting a draft date.
