  1. Adding Tyler Smith was huge for them. I never felt like people (media included) understood just how important that addition was. JP Prince was just as big an addition as Tyler was. Two EXCELLENT transfers. Yes, but Smith's hardship waiver allowing him to play without sitting out -- not implying it was an incorrect decision -- significantly shifted the balance of power nationally. It was a huge advantage for Tennessee and took this year's team from Sweet 16 good to top-5 good. I don't believe they'd be a title contender without him; they are with him. Oh, I know Iowa fans, and Big Ten fans in general, understood how good Smith was. I just don't think that awareness was present nationally. I'm not saying that the Smith transfer isn't huge- every bit as big as the Prince transfer, if not bigger. I am just suggesting that Smith gets alot of credit, while Prince gets overlooked, while almost every player on the team- including Smith- states that Prince is the most talented player on the UT roster. Regardless, I am thrilled to have both. Basketball is fun in Knoxville again.
  2. In a little over 6 hours, it will time for the Vols to put a Gardner Webb type beatdown on the Mildcats in Lexington. Actually, I don't think we'll win by 18, I just believe we can.
  3. Weber did it first. And Pearl's a scumbag. Ummm, Weber did it first? Perhaps someone should tell that to Ray Mears, who did it in the 60's for the Vols, and is the reason why Pearl does it now. Got me on that, was not aware. Thanks for not contending Pearl being a scumbag. :) When your facts are wrong (orange blazer) it's easy to argue. When you opinion is, not so much. And I have no interest in arguing for the sake of arguing. You dislike Pearl. So be it. AS a UT fan, I like him. NOthing you say will change that.

  6. I'm trying to make deals, but no one is responding. I've gotten killed with the lack of a DL in the offseason.
  7. Thanks for doing this, Mooch. Joe Smith is not on my minor league roster. I have him on my major league roster, though if that is wrong, let me know.
  8. Tennessee wins on fumes. Ohio St. played very well. I like this game, and think it prepares us well for the tourney. Not because OSU is that good, but because we played them after a Thursday night game against a tough Vandy squad. Our OOC schedule is very good, but the fact that we've played two tough opponents in a two day turnaround bodes well for the tourney. Now, let's just hope we still have something in the tank for Tuesday's game at Kentucky. The #3 Vols have plenty to play for.
  9. I realize that the first thing that has to happen is that the league needs to be filled up. After that, however, what is our deadline for dropping players? That would be helpful to know at least a week beforehand, so that if we want to try and deal for players that other teams will have to release, we have ample opportunity to do so. Also, is there any discussion about potential draft dates?
  10. UCLA has the night off. You may be right, but that is a game I would love to see. No doubt that UNC, Kansas, Memphis, UCLA, and UT are the top 5 in the country right now. I simply cannot wait until Feb. 23, when UT and Memphis play.
  11. I sincerely hope you're joking. Indiana wouldn't stay within 15 of either Tennessee or UCLA.
  12. The best one loss team in AMerica drilled Vandy by 20 tonight. Tennessee 80 Vandy 60 Lofton still hasn't gotten untracked, but if he does, watch out.
  13. I'll look again tonight. If I can't figure it out we'll have to get Tim involved to see how he did it last season when we had new people come in and take over teams. You gonna respond to the offer? Just wondering... Gotta figure out what my needs are first. Outfielders are a dime a dozen. My question aimed at Mooch, but I'm glad you responded. You're right about OF being a dime a dozen, but this deal gives you exempt players for a guy you will likely have to release anyway.

  15. I will do that this weekend for anyone who asks. I think it would be helpful to see everyone's, because that could spark trade talks. If I can see who has players they cannot possibly keep, and I have tradeable parts who are exempt, it helps make deals more feasible.
  16. I realize that there is language in the rules that should make it clear who is exempt and who is not, but is someone going to publish a list of our exempt players for us? I have a couple of players who are confusing to me, such as BJ Upton. Any listing would be very helpful. Plus, having a list of players might be helpful to see, in terms of other teams players who are not exempt. It could fuel some trade talks. Might as well trade a player for an exempt player instead of just releasing him altogether. Might make the draft a little less loaded, but it makes the hot stove more fun.
  17. If we're changing the rule, it should be changed going into NEXT offseason. I set up my roster per the rules, and it would suck to change them now, just because some others did not do so. I also feel that teams who are not benefitting from this setup have more incentive to make a few trades for exempt players. All those voting yes had every opportunity to play by the same rules as the rest of us, imo. Could the rule be changed? Yes, it could, and it should. Just not going into THIS season.
  18. I don't believe there is anything in the rules either way so there needs to be a league vote because it could cause a disagreement. I saw your explanation, and I do not think that is a good idea at all. I am the one who voted yes, but now that I understand what you mean, my vote would be an emphatic no.
  19. What would be the reasoning behind us not being able to?
  20. Look and see. Let's call it a starting point.
  21. I plan to win the league in 2008.
  22. From the looks of things in these threads, you are not a very good gambler.
  23. Hosak8

    Fukudome?

Why is it asinine? There are no rules against it, and it's not any different than any other transaction that is allowed by the rules.
  24. After the mighty Gators were beaten by the 3rd best team in the lowly B10? Are you surprised? For the record, Florida is the 3rd best team in the SEC. It's not like the best SEC team got beat by the Big 11 doormats.
  25. youre right. theyre only a top 20 team (even if they lose) and theyre going to open up next season as the number 1 team in the country No chance. Florida will be a top 5 team at the very least to start the 2008 season. I wouldn't be surprised if they're ranked number 1. Top 5, sure. #1? No chance. A 4 loss team that finshes 15 or lower will NOT begin 2008 ranked #1. I'd guess they start at #3.
