Ah, OK. Wasn't sure if points put up by teams that beat you makes any difference on that sort of thing. i don't believe so. personally i think that any system that regards texas tech's win over texas the same as oklahoma's win over texas tech is terrible. if you want to add a limit to margin of victory so that teams aren't rewarded for running up the score - say, 30 points - that's fine. but margin of victory should really matter. I do agree that there should be a limit, otherwise you're pretty much promoting running up the score. I think a 20-30 cap on margin of victory would be a good thing. Latest rumor (which I put almost ZERO stock in...): Norm Chow to be Kiffin's OC at Tennessee. Not gonna' happen, but that's out there floating around. That would be hilarious. The thought of Monte Kiffin at DC and Norm Chow at OC at Tennessee makes me very happy. I agree, though, pretty much less than zero chance of that happening. Today's names... Bill Callahan at OC. Yogi Roth for WR/TE, and Art Kehoe as OL coach. Sounds like Scott will not be retained after all. Trooper was offered a position, but not as an OC, and not for as much money as he's making now.

They ARE big this year, but it's been a while. Our smallest starter is 6'3", which is a big difference (no pun intended) from last year's squad that started 2 guys at 6'1" or shorter.

Tatum with another HUGE 3. Tennessee may not miss Lofton as much as I thought they would.

Tennessee has played a helluva game against a tough Big east team. Georgetown is known for being a very tough defenisve squad, and minus a few lulls here and there, Tennessee has proven they can score on just about anyone. Wayne Chism still plays stupid from time to time, but I am ostly impressed with Tennessee's effort today, especially from Cameron Tatum.

I'd like to see Trooper back, it's no coincidence that each unit he coached improved as soon as he took over. I do worry about his playcalling ability, though, since he's never done it. Surely with those three all possibilities we'll be able to land one of them. I'm not sure how I feel about Orgeron as a defensive coordinator, though. His absolutely horrid stint at Ole Miss worries the heck out of me. I don't know that I'd worry about Trooper calling plays. I'd bet that many- if not all of the plays- will be called by Kiffin.
-
it's my understanding that Orgeron would coach the DLine (no longer separate coaches for DE's and DT's) and would serve as recruiting coordinator. He's already reportedly been doing research on current commits, current players, and the state of Tennessee as a whole. He would be BIG in Memphis. The latest on Trooper Taylor is that he's been contacted for an offensive staff position- presumably OC and most likely RB's. That would make the Offensive staff Trooper Taylor (who will share playcalling with Kiffin, undoubtedly), David Reaves (QB's), Latrell Scott (WR's... and maybe TE's) and an unnamed OL coach. Defensively (and this is all just conjecture at this point), I'm hearing/guessing Kiffin as DC and LB coach, Orgeron at DLine (and recruiting coordinator), and an unnamed DB's coach, though I have heard Joe Whitt Jr, who is another outstanding recruiter. That leaves room for a Special Teams coach on the staff, which Fulmer would never do. I have heard no names or even speculation that this might happen, but if it were to, Shane Beamer would be the unanimous choice amongst UT fans. We will know something by Tuesday. Very interesting. I like the looks of most of that staff. Any idea why Orgeron would leave an NFL gig (albeit small) to take a position coach job at the collegiate level? Either way, that staff can most definitely recruit very well and that's incredibly important at Tennessee. Is it Tuesday that we should know whether UT offered and Kiffin accepted or do you think we'll know earlier and he'll assemble his staff quickly? Thanks for the info. I think we'll know about Kiffin by Monday (we really already know, but the University will not confirm or release any info until Phil Fulmer's placard is offically off the office door.) Due to recruiting, we will know at least 3 others by mid-week. He WILL keep up to two current coaches, both on offense. According to Brent Hubbs, Trooper Taylor has not been contacted, but I don't believe him. Again, personal friends of Trooper's (who have other connections in the Athletic Department, and who have nailed other news) have stated that Trooper has been contacted and offered a position and that he'd love to come back. I'd guess that a line coach (as well as a new strength and conditioning "coach") would be a very quick hire. We likely won't know about a Defensive Coordinator for several weeks. Monte will not be asked to recruit if he's on the staff, so there is no rush there. Orgeron will be a factor in the LSU Defensive Coordinator search, so that will remain up in the air. IF Monte is a no, and IF Orgeron is a no, then I'm not sure who'd be on the list, but I would expect Kevin Steele's name to be circulated heavily.

Yes, what we really need is a proven BCS game product in OU. We know they always show up in January. I admire your use of the strawmen.

I come to realize that people will simply hate good teams. And Alabama is a good, soon to be great, team. And the hate on this board against Alabama will make me smile. lol. there are probably like two people on this board who hate alabama. i really don't care much about them; i just like goofing on them at your expense. i'm not exaggerating when i say that you're the biggest homer of anybody on this board, for any team in pro or college sports. Oh Lord... and to think that he's literally one of the more evolved Bammers out there. Trust me, I live in Birmingham, and these people are delusional.
-
No I didn't say everything is perfect at Alabama, because there not. There still several players that haven't bought fully into Saban's plans, it just I haven't heard any discension from the coaching ranks at Alabama. Trust me when I say this.......Tidefans is a CREDIBLE site for Alabama Crimson Tide information. The moderator of the site, "JessN" is credible. And if he says that to his knowledge that he hasn't heard Steele being unhappy at Alabama I believe him. It is common belief that Steele won't leave Alabama unless a better job or a HC job is his. Quite frankly Tennessee or Texas Tech DC jobs are not better jobs. I just say I trust "JessN" information about the coaching staff over some 3rd hand info from Florida State. You do realize the ONLY reason Steele is not at Tennessee already is because his best friend is the DC there, right? If not for Chavis, Steele would have been back at Tennessee years ago.

Okay, here is what I am hearing. Kiffin is a done deal. Monte is believed to be on his staff (this is HUGE). Orgeron is rumored to be on the staff, as well, though there are rumors that O is being considered for the expected opening at DC for LSU (as is John Chavis, who is also rumored to be in the mix at Arkansas). David Reaves (current QB coach at South Carolina and Lane's brother in law) is on the offensive staff (presumably as QB coach), and I'm hearing that maybe two current coaches (Scott and Drayton) are being retained. TIFWIW. We'll know Tuesday at the latest. The source has been dead-on accurate regarding player dismissals and coaching moves in the past, and has strong ties to Trooper Taylor, who *might* be in the mix on this staff as well. What I like about this staff is that it keeps the recruiting class mostly intact. Oku will recommit, as will Giles. I think Marlon Brown signs at UT with that staff in place, and I like our chances at keeping Boyd. Defensively, you'd have to be out of your mind to not want to play for Monte Kiffin, so I think that a couple of guys who've been wavering, and have even decommitted might reconsider. Have you heard the rumors of Kevin Steele going to UT as well? Not under Kiffin. Monte is the first choice, and if he turns it down, I'd hope that Steele is on his list. Steele was a name closely tied to both Kelly and Leach.
-
Much the same way Saban has, is my guess. Kiffin will outscheme nearly every OC in the conference. His issue won't be x's and o's.. it will be the Jimmy's and Joe's. He needs pocket collapsing DT's for his Tampa 2, and I'm not sure that Tennessee has them right now. Best DB's in the conference, by far, but not much in the front 7.

Tennessee isn't a hodgepodge of talent every yr. In fact Tennessee has to build their teams with outside the state talent. So, if Leach had gone to Tennessee he would have to go into other SEC states to acquire talent. And it's unlikely he would acquire any elite talent from any state in the SEC. So again, I doubt Leach could survive in the SEC. I didn't say he couldn't, I said I doubt it. Pretty uninformed opinion. If Tennessee had the border locked down, they would have Patrick Turner at WR, Graig Cooper at RB, Michael Oher at LT, Mike Barry on the OL, Jeremy Jarmon and Greg Hardy on the DL, Donta Hightower in the mix at LB, Curt Phillips and Randall Cobb on the roster (albeit, both went elsewhere because UT didn't want them at QB..) and on and on and on. Now, do not misunderstand me... TN is no Fla, Tex, or Cali. It's not even close. But, if you put much stock into recruiting services, TN ranks ahead of talent rich states such as Alabama, Virginia, and Pennsylvania- and right behind Ohio- in the Rivals 2010 250 to Watch list. I'd say there's plenty of talent in TN. What the next coach needs to do is lock down the borders and then rely on out of state talent for teh balance of 15 players a year, instead of Fulmer's rule of taking 5 from Tennessee and supplementing the other 20 from outside.

Talk about being inactive. viewtopic.php?p=2032460#p2032460 You said may. I hadn't seen anything saying it was final. (Just checked... welcome jiddy!)
-
Well... it was working. It is quite clear that the coach didn't care a thing about winning that game. His one and only concern was keeping the NBA player from winning the game. It certainly wasn't keeing the other team from winning the game.
-
Sure it can. Tim, Raw, and Goony are non-existent, there is no new owner for Juan's team, Dan only responds to you, and the rest of us have already swapped all the players that we're willing to. Just nor sure what else there is to be done. Once fantasy football ends, I would anticipate a couple of guys getting involved again. But, let's be honest, this is the most uninvolved I have ever seen a keeper league be. You cannot get half the league to vote on issues, and it's tough to get any type of response on trade offers at all. It's like pulling teeth to get people to give you one minute a day during the offseason.

THis is the worst Offensive line is UT history. Cannot wait to see Adkins gone.
-
We've got the receivers (Gerald Jones and Ahmad Paige) and the running backs (Montario Hardesty and Lennon Creer). The offensive line isn't very good, though, and the quarterbacks suck. That said, five-star recruit Tajh Boyd has committed to Tennessee and hopefully he'll be able to actually complete passes. I think the players can run it, though it wouldn't be nearly as effective next season as it is with Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree spearheading it. The frustrating thing with this offense is that there's good talent on the team, they're just not performing. I think you greatly underestimate BJ Coleman. In the JV game against Hargrave, Coleman looked really good. YOu can say that the level of competition was terrible, but he hit his open receivers, which is something Tennessee fans have not seen much of thus far. I definitely want to see Coleman. Just the fact that Cutcliffe liked him so much makes me want to see what he can do. I was hoping Fulmer would go ahead and start him today, though I do like Crompton (not his play, but his general attitude). That said, I'll be shocked (and pleasantly so) if Coleman can beat out Boyd next year (assuming Boyd truly signs with us). Any new nuggets on the coaching search? Not much new on the coaching front. I'd be a little surprised if Leach gets it over Kelly, as my understanding is that there are some in the Athletic Department who do not like Leach at all. Also, I have heard that Bruce Pearl is pushing Kelly as the next coach at UT. I won't be the least bit surprised if Coleman beats out Boyd. I think he's the real deal. We're about to see.

And body of work my ass, I spend so much time arguing against the SEC because of people like Hosak and RedFlash who feel Sylvester Croom is at worst the 12th best coach in college football. Was that question about which conference was worse really that hateful? This was coming from a guy who thought the Big Ten was as awful as its ever been heading into this season. I have all of 4 Big Ten teams making the tourney. Actually, it is your body of work. Not so much in basketball season, but during football season, your conference inferiority complex shows. And I know that some of it has to do with SEC homers. I'm just not sure how I qualify as one. I am not going to brag on Florida and LSU dominating Ohio State, because I don't like FLorida or LSU, and Tennessee does not look any better for having lost to them. You can bitch about SEC homers all you want (it's a bit hypocritical, all things considered, but whatever...) but you might want to be sure of who you're bitching about before you go off blindly accusing people of things that are untrue. And, for the record, I will not hesitate to admit that the SEC is down in basketball. Not for a second. But, I don't care, because Tennessee is in the midst of its best run in basketball ever. (Now you can mock Tennessee over Sweet 16 losses... that's fine because it's true.) Kentucky sucks, and I hope they lose to every team they play. It does not embarrass me one bit that they lost to VMI this year, or Gardner Webb, Houston, San Diego, and UAB last year. Why should it? Tennessee didn't lose to them. If Florida plays for a National title in football, I'm not going to cheer for the conference, because the conference isn't playing. Florida is (or Alabama, or whomever for the sake of this argument), and I hate them. So, why should I cheer for them? You can call me alot of things, but SEC homer is not one. And don't, for one second, place responsibility on me for your inferiority complex.

This is my problem with most Big 10 fans- especially the ones here. Everything is "conference this" and "conference that," as though "conferences" win anything. I realize that there are tons of SEC fans who flap their gums about being the best conference in the world in football, but the raging inferiority complex that Big 10 fans display is stinking hilarious. Seriously, you've made the point- you have tiny e-dongs. That said, I don't get it. Who cares which conference is better or worse? Last time I checked the Pac 10 doesn't play the SEC. Nor does the Big 10 play the Big 12. And, despite the name of the "challenge", the Big East does not play the ACC. Individual teams play one another, and how Tennessee fares (or UCLA, or Illinois, or Kansas, or... well, you get it) is not a product of the conference. The Big 10 hasn't been humiliated in the National Championship the past two years- Ohio St. has. The SEC didn't win any championships. Florida and LSU did. As a Tennessee fan, what should it matter to me that Ohio State got spanked by those teams? So did UT. The Big 12 is not the reigning National Champion. Kansas is. Why should Texas or Oklahoma or Missouri or any other Big 12 schools fans brag about that? Their team didn't win anything. They just lost to the team that did. I just don't get it. And I know that SEC fans are guilty of it, especially in football. That doesn't make sense to me either. If Florida destroys Oklahoma or Texas in the National Championship game, am I going to walk around pounding my chest about it? Heck no, I hate Florida. It just doesn't make sense to me. Conferences are college's divisions. Do you not care if the NL is better than the AL? Do you not care that the Central is better than any other division? Plus where the heck are you getting this from the post you quoted. All he says is the UM-Duke game will likely leave only one conference completely undefeated. Why are you taking that as a Big Ten fan with an inferiority complex? It could be just as likely he is pumped for the ACC to perhaps be the only undefeated team. No, I don't care if the NL is better than the AL. If the Cubs don't win the World Series, am I supposed to take solace in the fact that the Phillies did? The Cardinals? Why? They aren't the Cubs. And, no, that was not all he said. Nor was this post (in spite of the quote) directed at only this post. SSR has a history (as do a few others- mostly Illinois fans) of "inferiority complex posts," primarily regarding the SEC. More than any other poster, he takes jab after jab at "SEC fans", and I find it humorous. Call it a reply to a body of work, and if you are unfamiliar with that body, I can certainly understand the confusion.
