  1. Gameday says those balls were VERY close.
  2.   I feel so free...
  3. Ceda's been doing pretty good though, it's not like we got nothing for Walker.
  4. We could make it an NSBB event! I'd be all about it!
  5. I'd still value Dempster as a closer, although I'd be open to trading him if we got something good in return. Closers are hardly ever 100%, blown saves are gonna happen. Last year was a fluke in that Dempster only blew two saves, and then we won both games anyway. Sorry to soil the mood of the lynch mob.
  6. No WAY Dusty is coming back now. There'd be riots in the streets.
  7. Must be rough times for the ticket scalpers outside Wrigely....
  8. ....Waiting to throw trash onto the field so it can feel at home with the garbage already there.

What I'm just saying is that realistically, getting to the playoffs should be the determination of a successful season. And, obviously, the number of games won correlates to that. What I'm railing against is the notion that the A's aren't sucessful because they haven't won a world series recently, and that is therefore an indiction that Billy Beane's strategy doesn't work.

I would just like to point out that only one team wins the world series every year, and it's a pretty tough thing to do, I think the best any team or manager can realistically hope for is to win their division and get into the playoffs. I've seen plenty of good teams go down in the playoffs, and many will continue to do so because baseball in the regular season is such a huge sample size, whereas in the playoffs it's a short series. If anything, not giving away outs would be even more important then I would guess. So when people ask how many world series rings the A's have won, I think that's unfair. From 2000-2005 the Cardinals went 575-408 and got into the playoffs FIVE TIMES. How many rings do they have to show for it? None. It's an unfair point to any team.
  11. There's only one word to describe this: UGGLA
  12. Edmonds has been in pretty serious decline the over the last two years. No way I want him on the Cubs.
  13. I had no idea this was so recent. I was thinking like, 1800s maybe.
  14. Red's backup catchers would always kill us too. I think there's just something about backup catchers.
  15. Maybe to the Benny Hill theme song?
  16. Floyd hit one too. And Beltran I think.
  17. Wow, I don't think Todd Walker compares to Eric Patterson at all....
  18. It's still the Cubs. They might not be the most attractive place to play right now, but they are more attractive then some clubs-and if they offer the money, people will come. Also, if you are a big hitter (say Soriano) you still know that you are going to be in one of the better middle of the orders in the league. Not only that, but the NL Central is pitifully weak right now.
  19. He's a great hitter, and takes his time at the plate, all he needs is a little power development. And that will come with time. Or maybe not. But all he'd need to do was bump up his SLG to around the .500 level and he'd be a very servicable and cheap LF. I mean, look at his line for August: .328/.357/.627 Hell, look at this month by month: April: .286/.368/.442 May: 286/.358/.393 June: .212/.257/.227 July: .360/.421/.440 August: .328/.357/.627 Clearly he had a very tough time in May and June, but he's really adjusted well since then.
