  1. LOL the Cardinal fan trying to make us think he really wants the best player in baseball to play for the cubs. Good one. Keep telling yourself that. I bet if the Cards could have him for the next 8 years you would hope they would pass. LOL
  2. No, I would imagine they will go about getting Miguel Cabrera.
  3. He resigns with the Yankees for that kind of money, the booing he got last year will seem like nothing if he doesn't hit big in the playoffs.
  4. how about PENN STATE??? are YOU in? Nittany Lion Basketball: We have JuCo Transfers! Nittany Lion Basketball: Hey we play good teams like Illinois and Ohio State! Come see their talented players! And this is the nicest thing that will be said about U of I basketball in this thread over the next couple of months. At which point some IU fan will get under illiniguy's collar and he'll go off and we'll all have as much fun with IU/UI as we did last year. And you forgot Wilson Chandler Derwood. DePaul's gonna be in a world of hurt :( I think Illinois squeaks into the tourney again. (God help me I've got us 22-9 heading into the BTT) It'd be nice to not choke away a 10 point lead with 4 minutes left this time. There will be a bunch of hype surrounding the UI/Mizzou game on here. Missouri will be undefeated at the time and talking about how they'll finally snap the streak against a 3 loss Illini team. Illinois will up it's winning streak against Mizzou to 48 consecutive games. UI/IU #1 will be overexposed before their first matchup in Bloomington. Gordon will score 28 and IU wins by 11. IU fans around here get real obnoxious. IU/UI #2 will be overexposed before their 2nd matchup in Champaign. Chester Frazier holds Gordon to 13. Orange Krush plays their cell phone ringtones at every IU free throw, Gordon is booed every time he touches the ball. Illinois wins by 6. UI fans around here get real obnoxious. Shaun Pruitt is 1st team all Big 10. Randle 2nd team. Frazier 3rd. The Big 10 is wayyy down this year. You've got 4 at the top(OSU, MSU, IU, Wisky) 2 question marks in the middle (UI, PU), some teams that need a year(Minnesota, UM, PSU??), and dreck(Iowa, NU) I think the Big 10 gets 5 teams, and I think we're better than Purdue, to the point that we could slide in to the 4 spot. Oh and every talking head will talk about what a down year it is for the big 10 for the 19th consecutive season. At least one team will again make the Final 4, and it won't be IU. I am gonna try and not go off. I figure that lasts till about the 4th game of the season. I am very anxious to see Illinois play this year. Sadly I have comcast so I won't get most of their games. MIKE TISDALE.
  5. Normally I'm critical of ref bashing but Indiana has been screwed over by refs against Michigan quite a few times over the years. So I understand. Ah well, keep winning games Michigan. Save Lloyd's job.
  6. Nice shot of Lloyd shaking the refs hand. Kinda fitting after that game.
  7. They have to call enought that it looks close, like they didn't impact the game.
  8. Yeah, that seems questionable. The other kid seems like a better passer. Zook has himself in a strange spot. Juice is the Chicago kid and very important to our Chicago recruiting. But, McGee is better. He has to try and keep both happy. I think this offseason might be time to try juice at WR I think he would make a good slot receiver. Especailly since Zook has another 4 star qb coming in next year.

  10. Hudson should stick to playing a bad centerfield and get the hell off of the football team.
  11. Illinois with 7 penatlies for 85 yards and Michigan with 0. We are the home team. Typical.
  12. Meph, if you don't mind me asking what do you do? Are you in college or do you have a job? I am blown away at your intelligence level. No I am not in anyway being sarcastic either. But I still think ARod was the most valued player of the year by far. :P
  13. Are you that sold on Prior next year in the rotation? Or am I missing your 5th?
  14. Even though the Cubs paid the Patterson's a ton of money, I get the feeling that fmaily isn't the biggest of Cubs fans.
  15. Is Sam Fuld a prospect? Should I ever think he is gonna get a real shot with the Cubs, Raisin?
  16. It really does not make sense in how they were allowed to pitch with such bad mechanics. Adding in the fact they were seemingly throwing 110+ pitches every fith day still amazes me and others. I know Prior came into the league with these so called perfect mechanics. Maybe that played a role in the management allowing him to throw so many pitches. I agree with PingHitter in the fact fatigue played a role. I may be wrong, but I don't think Prior every thrown more than 150 innings in his life before that 03 season. Add in the fact he has horrible mechanics and you have your self a major issue. That is why I am worried about Marmol. I don't think he has the mechanics that will keep him healthy to be a starter. He is better suited in that closer's role throwing limited pitches. You can baby a pitchers arm all you want. Eventually those bad mechanics will catch up to him. When evaluating a pitcher, its nice to look at his stats, but you also have to look deeper. You have to check their mechanics and their other intangibles. Says Tommy LaSorda as he trades Pedro Martinez away for Delino DeShields. Give me the guy with great numbers and let me protect him over the guy with great intangibles anyday.
  17. I never said Theriot was better than DeRosa, what I did say was a interrogative statement asking why one automatically assumes DeRosa instantly gets the job at 2b over Theriot-if Theriot is forced from short that is-without competiton during spring training. Your little world is going to be rocked if they acquire ARod or Renteria. DeRosa is starting somewhere. That might be at 2B (where he should start). But if management irrationally decided that Theriot should play 2B every day, guess where Derosa is going to play? Poor Murton fan. Ultimately, this is going to be a choice between Theriot and Murton. Who will you root for? Man Crush #1 or Man Crush #2? LOL. POTY.
  18. I'd say defensive value is the primary driver, yes. I could see that if Butler was in the NL. But he isn't. So, given two players in the AL that can put up the same offensive numbers, you wouldn't say that the SS provides more value than the 1B? By shortstop, do you mean outfielder? I also don't think they have ever put up comparable numbers at any point. Jones career minor league numbers .285 .346 .446 Butler career minor league numbers .344 .417 .564 Methinks you missed the point of my question. Should you ignore offensive value completely just because they're in the AL? Also, career minor league numbers often create a very skewed comparison because of different development paths. That is true about the numbers. I think if the hitter projects to be a lot better than you should ignore the defensive value in the AL. I mean Edgar Martinez never played in the field at all, but was still pretty dang valueable. Quick question - Grady Sizemore or Travis Hafner in a good year? I would prefer Travis Hafner in a good year. I think at his peak his OPS blows away what Sizemore can put up. I also don't think that Jones is in the same league as Sizemore nor will he ever be. I also don't think that Butler will ever hit for that kind of power in the cavern that is the K.

  21. Yeah, but at least in basketball we get to have a tournament where the voters don't have as much of an impact.
  22. Losing to the 15 team in the nation now is only a "decent loss"? I dont care when IL loss was, the reason Michigan is ranked and Il isnt is because they are Michigan, and Illinois is Illinois. Id think its pretty simple. Who has Michigan beaten? Illinois has beaten the then #5 team Wisconsin, and a top 20 team at the time in Penn State. At the time, Notre Dame's 2005 win over Michigan was a road win over a top 5 team and by the end of the year everyone was trashing it because Michigan lost 5 games. You can't change the criteria for a good win to fit your team. Wisconsin's not very good as they've proven in their ugly wins over The Citadel and Iowa plus their 2 losses, and Penn State isn't either. Although they were ranked higher when Michigan beat them than when you did, so I guess that was an impressive win. If Illinois had won five straight and Michigan had just dropped a game to a team without a league win in over a year, you'd be looking at the reverse situation, there's not a doubt about it. And yes, as Missouri has no win better than a neutral-site win over an unranked team (Nebraska just got steamrolled at home by Oklahoma State and barely squeaked by the BSU Cardinals, so it's safe to say they aren't all that good either), it's 'only' a decent loss. Yeah, Missouri's not all that good even though they were leading going into the fourth at the number 4 ranked team in the country. Read the sentence again, I was referring to Nebraska. I don't even know why I mention Missouri or Illinois in these threads, it's even more of a flame invitation than being a ND fan. I'll just drop the subject entirely. I get the point you are arguing. Hell Michigan might be better than Illinois. My oly beef is at this point our wins and loses are both better than Michigans. Also you should know that there are going to be a lot of Mizzou and Illini fans on a Cubs board. Don't let that stop you from making any post you want.
  23. Michigan's won five straight and Illinois just lost to a team that had no Big Ten wins in a year. And Michigan lost to a D2 school and their resume is nowhere close to being as good as Ilinois It will look much better than Illinois after they beat them this week. Ok if that happens why would it look better since IL isnt even ranked? We are talking about right now, and right now IL has a much better resume. Duh, because you disproved his theory that's why. Unless of course the rankings are a new way of looking into the future. At this point, right now, for this week Illinois has a better resume than Michigan. AS such it makes no sense for Michigan to be ranked ahead of them.
  24. Michigan's won five straight and Illinois just lost to a team that had no Big Ten wins in a year. And Michigan lost to a D2 school and their resume is nowhere close to being as good as Ilinois silly facts.
