  1. Gameday has ball two being right down the middle.
  2. Yes, he would. Hill's AB's stinks, but he plays too large a role behind the plate that Fox simply cannot do. He's that bad? People can run at will on him, he doesn't call a very good game and he has trouble with the whole catching the ball part of being a catcher. yeah it's a catch 22 because you probably need the extra offense with hart on the mound, but you're also going to have a lot of baserunners on and you need someone who can at least try to control the running game and catch the ball. Doesnt Hart have the least movement on his pitches though? That's what I would think would be the biggest issue.
  3. He would bat 4th behind Pujols. Hes a better hitter than Holliday agreed. pujols and rammy together would be scary.
  4. He wouldn't start. They have Joe Thurston.

  6. Good lord, just play Fox one game. He won't hurt us that badly.
  7. justin berg? i'm not sure that there's a better option. we're pretty thin at SP since marshall is apparently our LOOGY now. Well then lets go get a loogy so we can use Marshall. This is very cublike to keep a much better option in the pen.
  8. Kevin Hart is awful. We have to have a better option than him.
  9. But he's made two amazing catches. Two amazing catches that somehow trick Lou into thinking he should ever play against a righty. Let alone bat lead off against one.
  10. This is just getting absurd. It is? The Cubs have a number of players over 30. When it's at the point that we've had our opening day lineup on the field twice? three times? Even considering we do have some older players, imo it's a pretty absurd run of injuries. Last year we were super healthy. I guess this is just the evening out period.
  11. Can we not give Jake Fox one freaking start at catcher?
  12. Isn't Beal all but a lock for Florida? I also thought that Thompson wants to go play with Michelle Obama's brother in Oregon St. But, yeah I am not too worried we got the point guard. There is a lot of talent in state to plug in around him and still get a very good class for '11.
  13. I think only 2 of the top 7 players in the Illini's rotation next year will be freshmen. I'm guessing we will start. 1. McCamey 2. Richardson 3. Legion 4. Davis 5. Tisdale With Keller and Paul the first two players off of the bench. I'm not sure we will see a lot of Griffey and Bertrand this year. Griffey has Cole and Simpson in front of him, and Bertrand is the last guard on the roster right now (sidenote: I love Bertrands game, I just hope he can get minutes and become a starter in the coming years). Bertand's gonna be very good, but yeah I don't see the minutes for him right now.
  14. Your latter point may stand, but the reason the other team traded for a player isn't necessarily just hype from the original team. Maybe Florida and Pittsburgh genuinely saw what the Cubs scouts saw in Choi and Hill and felt they could produce at a high level. Just because a player doesn't pan out doesn't mean he was all hype - the talent could be there. Choi did perform at a high level for the Marlins. I'd love to know exactly what happened to his bat. Was it a matter of adjusting, or were there injuries involved? I know Tracy [expletive] with him in LA, but it doesn't explain his power just disappearing by '06. Maybe a steroid guy?
  15. You think a freshman-laden Illinois team is a favorite to win at Clemson early in the year? DMac-Jr DJ-Fr Keller-Sr Davis-Jr Tisdale-Jr Cole-Jr Paul-Fr Semrau-Sr edit: duh I forgot about Legion too-Jr That will prolly be the rotation early. Aren't too young.
  16. We were one run from winning a series in Philly against a scorching hot Phillie team. With our pitching I'll take our chances. "we" scored 2 runs in 22 innings against mediocre pitching (missing their best starter) before getting to face Jamie Moyer. color me impressed. i don't dispute that pitching isn't the problem and is the only reason the Cubs are close. i just don't think it's enough. If the Phillies don't make a big trade though, odds are we would still see Moyer and Blanton in a short series. Yeah the offense is bad right now, but the pitching will give us a punchers chance.
  17. Pie wasn't in the group. Here's off the top of my head who I remember us having. Corey Patterson-he flopped it happens. Mark Prior-I would say his '03 and '04 made him worth the hype. Bobby Hill-He turned into Aramis Ramirez and Kenny Lofton. That worked out well for us. Hee Seop Choi-He turned into DLee. That worked out well for us. Carlos Zambrano Juan Cruz-we should have been more patient with him. David Kelton-He flopped it happens. Angel Guzman-having a great year, really wish he would have stayed healthy. So basically even though you claim that whole group of guys flopped, we actually got productive 3 and 4 hitters who play plus defense at the corners, an ace, and a great bullpen arm. It seems like all the "he flopped it happens" guys are all hitters who never developed plate discipline, correct? Pretty clear to me we have been deficient in developing great hitters in our farm system. Pitching has been a better endeavor. So we need to get some better hitting instruction on our farm. I don't see why 30 years goes by and we don't do this. I agree, I'm all for a new regime. But, to say everythign cub was overrated is a bit much. When we had that highly reguarded system it was warranted.
  18. I doubt that. You would know you were going to do this and train for a bit. If you go to a pitching machine you can jack it up to 100-105 and still make contact. It's when the damn ball spins or changes levels where we all get seperated from baseball players.

  20. Except that when he actually faces someone on the mound better than a cardboard cutout (as in the playoffs the last two seasons) he is inept at leading off, hitting homeruns, and pretty much anything else offensively... Soriano smells like a rose when he swings at the first two pitches of an AB. He bats .375-.400 in his CAREER when he puts the ball in play in those situations. He's a fastball hitter and does everything AGAINST the theories of what a leadoff hitter should do... He's a great stat padder, but when the game is on the line, and he has two strikes on him, he will FAIL because he refuses to adjust and play the team game. 3-28 with a solitary walk in the last two playoff series is ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW... .107/.138/.245 0HR 0RBI I am sure Soriano is just up there going, I know they are gonna flip a cruve here in the dirt. I know I should take it because it helps the team, but I'm gonna hack. Not because I think I can drive the pitch, but just because it hurts the team and that's what I am going for. Bring on the boos. Once they get done with booing me I will drive my fancy hummer out while honking and waving at them. Oh wait, it's probably that he is a hitter with a weakness. Pretty much like every other hitter.

  22. If the Jays unload Halladay I've got to think that Marco Scuttaro becomes an option if people think theriot is lousy defensively at SS, wait til they get a load of scutaro there. Yeah but his offense might make the teams' good enough that we can overlook it again. his career line is .264/.334/.383/.716... that kinda sucks. Hasn't he been much better the past couple of years though?

  24. agreed, and we know theriot can hit some. unfortunately, it's awfully tough to find a shortshop who can hit and field well on the trade market. Obviously you haven't read the transactions board. We should be able to get Hanley Ramirez for Jake Fox and Kevin Hart.
