  1. Part of me feels bad for him but part of me is happy. How in the hell would that make you happy?
  2. Eric Burns, I hope he hits 6 homers this series and thus steals more atbats from a more deserving player again next year.
  3. Ha, Billy Buckner shutting us out with the wind blowing out.
  4. Nice effort this week guys. You've really earned that last paycheck.
  5. I'm honestly fine with either one of them as the 5th starter. We have 4 solid starting pitchers and Gorzellany, Smardzija, and Marshall to compete for the 5th spot. Barring any trades, the focus should really be on the offense and bullpen. I hope Marshall gets that spot then. Plus lets hope Randy Wells doesn't remember he's Randy Wells too.
  6. Man I hope we add a starter and dont have Gorzo or Shark in the rotation next year.
  7. I think more than anything the Royals are lucky he has the issues he does. He knows he wouldn't do as well in the pressure of a huge market. Plus he's loyal to the Royals because of how they stood by him during his issues.
  8. The 70+ steals help with that. But not at a super rate. Wasn't he thrown out 25 percent of the time? By Low A catchers?
  9. They might, which I guess could be viewed as a good thing. Our system has really come a good ways this past year. I really hope we stay this active in the far east.
  10. That's...not exactly a glowing review of Vitters' future. I guess I don't understand BA. For the first two years when it would have been easy to get down on Vitters they pumped him up. Now he has a pretty decent first full year in baseball and they ar dwon on him. Confusing.
  11. The other guy on the list that I really like is Montgomery. Wish we would have been able to get him.
  12. He doesn't have the top end speed that the tools guys crave, though. True, but in their write up of him last year they predicted that he would fill out some and develop power. "Castro needs to get stronger. Once he does, he could have close to average power and plus speed." Which I think I would rather have than blazing speed anyways.
  13. Man if they are that high on gordon they have to be super high on castro. He had a smiliar year as younger player at a higher level.
  14. I don't buy into Gordon. He's a whole year older than Vitters and don't think he's comparable as a prospect. That and he slugged .394.
  15. That just seems odd. Most people would be angry if we traded Vitters and got Hicks back. Did the half season only count against Josh here?
  16. That doesn't make much sense. The sale is all but over. That was an excuse the last two years, but no longer. Jim Hendry has been in this organization for well over a decade, a very influential personel man for nearly a decade and in complete control for 7+ seasons. He's been a disappointment. The fear of a worse GM is pointless. Most GMs don't get the financial benefit that Hendry has had. As long as they don't go out and sign Jim Bowden or some retread bum, they should be able to improve. This is a disappointing organization that hasn't won nearly as many games as they should have given their competitive advantages. I don't "fear" a worse GM: I simply recognize the odds of getting one that's actually good are tremendously slim. That doesn't mean I'm opposed to getting rid of Hendry. And I'm not making the limited payroll excuse. The language coming from the organization seems to be making it abundantly clear that money is going to be very tight for the forseeable future. If that's not actually the case, and I hope it isn't, fantastic, but as of right now they're indicating that it is. I'm not saying you're wrong, but where have you seen the organization saying that?
  17. correct, Eyre sucked and Aardsma got let go by Kenny Williams and GMJesus before he found a home in Seattle. Maybe it has to do with the extremely flukey nature bullpens are. I wanted to keep Eyre and give Howry the boot. They released the wrong guy last year. I love that Jim could eat Eyre's contract, but wouldn't Neifi's. The guy that had some value to the team, no problem we'll send him packing. The troll that saved us, no way, not going anywhere. Hendry ended up trading both of them. I'm not sure that's the best comparison. I knew he had traded Neifi, but I thought we released Eyre? Edit: for Brian Schlitter, huh. I thought he was all worked up at us last year because we released him.
  18. If the new guy doesn't have any money to work with, how does Hendry have any money to work with? If it effectively comes down to that the only significant moves the Cubs can make are trades until the payroll can be expanded or contracts come off the table I'd rather just keep Hendry since trades have been the one thing he's largely tolerable to really good at getting done. Once the money situation is more workable go ahead and fire him, but until then it seems largely redundant. It just doesn't seem likely that ownership is going to allow him to make trades and not sign people. This offseason he's going to trade milton Bradley to get money back. Harden is also gonna walk. So he's going to have money to spend. Odds are he won't spend it wisely. Chone Figgins comes to mind. Unless he's told not to sign anyone long term another year of Hendry can do even more damage and push our team even further away.

  20. Nobody's said that. I haven't said it in this thread, but I have said something that could be misconstrued for that if one were really, really dumb. Namely, that firing Hendry for the sake of firing him doesn't do us any good if don't hire a better GM. I wouldn't really see the point of firing Hendry if the best replacement we can muster is Jim Bowden, for instance. Exactly. I said something somewhat similar where I don't see the point of firing Hendry now if there's no significant payroll for a new GM to work with. It seems redundant to saddle a new GM with Hendry's mess without the financial means to do anything about it. I've also said that while I'm not opposed to Hendry ultimately being fired I have little confidence that his replacement will be any better. So instead we give him one more year to put a different set of limitations on the next guy? I mean what do you let him keep going, but not make any more moves? Because any moves he makes this offseason would then limit the team for another year going forward. When would it ever be ok to fire him then? He's always going to have given out contracts that extend into the future.
  21. The next GM could be worse.
  22. We have to keep Hendry, the next guy could be worse.
  23. There isn't anything. I don't like our chances on him. Sounds like his paarents want him away from Illinois. It seemed like a fun thought to entertain for a while, but I think you are right. Basketball season can't arrive quick enough Apparently Klee said in his chat that Miller never made it on campus. Oh well. Seemed like a longshot at best anyways. I hope we can land Beal.
  24. Why do our pitchers swing so much? Your a pitcher, see if he will walk you.
  25. Scales plays a great outfield. :banghead: :banghead:
