What other dead weight? Besides, odds are Lou was gone once his contract was up after this year anyway if they didn't contend (ie - making it past the 1st round of the playoffs), so I doubt some epic tanking was necessary. Same goes for Hendry, too. At least an epic tanking would get us higher draft picks next June. True, though it's baseball, so it's not as imperative to get those spots. A tanking would generally just suck. It may not be imperative, but it's certainly beneficial. I'm not rooting for failure, but if failure does occur, I hope it's epic so Hendry can stop wrecking this team and maybe we have a better crack at some good players that can help us 3 or so years down the road. A 78-win season doesn't do much. It gets us middle-of-the-pack draft picks, and Hendry may be able to talk his way into another chance, citing god-knows-what as the reason the team underperformed instead of his massive incompetence. An epic failure would take that option (however small it may be) away from him. I want Lou gone at the end of this season, I want Hendry gone, and with Lee and probably Lilly gone I want a GM that will spend those monies wisely to get us a few good players that we can build around. Hendry is gone after this year. Anything short of a World Series win that is.
