  1. His 27 season he stole 3 bases and was caught 16 times lol. Career 74 stolen with 72 caught. That may also be a record... Good grief. Adam Dunn probably had a better percentage.
  2. Joe Sewell, the hardest man to K in history, only struck out 114 times in 8,333 PA's. That's only 1.3%.
  3. An 8 team playoff is the most obvious thing ever. The five Power 5 champs, one G5 selection, and two at-large selections. I've said it a million times on this board and I'm convinced it would be glorious. You have the four quarter final games all on New Years Day. They can rotate access bowls. A hypothetical for this year (using central time): 12pm: Peach Bowl - UCF (8) v Alabama (1) 3pm: Sugar Bowl - Michigan (7) v Clemson (2) 6pm: Fiesta Bowl - Ohio State (6) v Notre Dame (3) 9pm: Rose Bowl - Georgia (5) v Oklahoma (4) And if any of these bowls have problems with one of their "traditional" tie-in's not being in their bowl or a problem with their bowl being on Jan 1st, then they can screw off. That would be absolutely insane to have an all-day CFB
  4. I’ll be damned. The video of Ruth they linked in that story was a video I created like ten years ago. Some wanker stole it and put it on their channel apparently. That comment is funny, but not really accurate. Ballplayers back then weren’t just dudes off the street. There were pretty extensive farm teams back then. The point remains though; yes, if you time machined 1918 Babe Ruth into 2018, he’d K almost every time. However, hitting a round ball with a round bat is a translatable skill to some degree. Some people have that skill to an extreme level. Ruth was a ridiculous athlete for his time and if infant Babe Ruth was transported to 1990 and grew up playing ball, I bet he’d be a stud in the MLB.
  5. That's a really good comparison actually. Incidentally, Helton wore No. 17 because of Gracie. puke you leave that old gin-blossomed drunk alone.
  6. I'm thinking this year's class is going to be Rivera, Mussina, Halladay, and Edgar. I'll be interested to see what numbers Pettitte and Helton get.
  7. That's a really good comparison actually. Incidentally, Helton wore No. 17 because of Gracie.
  8. Does Todd Helton get voted in? I think he eventually gets in, but will he be voted in? He's 19th All-Time in OPS and 19th in Doubles. 133 Career OPS+. Once had a single season where he led the league in hits, doubles, RBI, BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, and Total Bases. He was also a very proficient fielder. Career WAR of 60.1 and his HOF Monitor score is 175 (Baines' was 66...) People holding Coors Field against him (which IMO is somewhat valid) is the only reason I see the voters not voting him in.
  9. The issue is Harold Baines only got in because he got the "he definitely didn't do steroids" vote from the Morganistans and "he was on my team" vote from LaRussa and Reinsdorf. It's not about making the Hall more inclusive and will not help other borderline cases. Correct. You had his former owner, former GM, former manager, and a few teammates on that Committee. This absolutely reeks of the late 60's/early 70's Vets Committee putting in their old friends with selections like Chick Hafey, Jim Bottomley, or Jesse Haines.
  10. Indeed. The guys on the Effectively Wild podcast (the BP podcast) have never really been much to talk about the HOF stuff, but in their latest pod they were pretty fired up about how absolutely obscene this is. "Yes, Baines could be a HOFer....if you doubled his WAR"
  11. More stats showing the absolute absurdity of this selection: According to Baseball Reference, his HOF Monitor score is 67. This ties him with Mookie Betts (already), Javy Lopez, and Brian McCann. Random players with higher HOF Monitor scores: Vinny Castilla, Paul O'Neill, Giancarlo Stanton, Carlos Lee, Paul Konerko, Dante Bichette, Brad Ausmus, Moises Alou, Aramis Ramirez, Mo Vaughn, Joe Carter, Garrett Anderson, and so on. Also on Baseball-Reference, his JAWS score has him listed as the 74th All-Time best RF, behind illustrious players like Shin-Soo Choo, Nelson Cruz, Shawn Green, and Reggie Sanders.
  12. Wasn’t Baines a Veterans’ Committee selection? Regardless, the Hall loves its counting stats and among eligible players, only Bonds, Palmeiro, and Vizquel have more hits than Baines. Bonds and Palmeiro are excluded because of steroids. Vizquel got nearly 40% of the vote in his first year of eligibility, and between his 2800 hits and 11 Gold Gloves, one would have to believe he’ll eventually get in, too. Not saying I think Baines should be in. Just saying I see the (flawed) logic behind it. Oh horsefeathers. I didn't realize he was Vets Committee.... I guess all that research was for naught. Although I guess no one knows or gives a crap about the Vets Committee guys who have WAR's around Baines' (it's mostly those mediocre dudes from the 30's or players from the 19th century), so my list does have some relevance as a basis for comparison at least.
  13. Pie Traynor is the only position player in the HOF with a lower WAR (36.3) than Baines (38.7). Some notable differences between the two though: Traynor: 1941 games, 6 Top 10 MVP finishes Baines: 2830 games, 2 Top 10 MVP finishes Your Lowest 10 WAR's of players voted into the HOF by the BBWAA: - Pie Traynor: 36.3 - Harold Baines: 38.7 - Rabbit Maranville: 42.9 (your previous winner for the most widely regarded BBWAA fail) - Lou Brock: 45.3 (was all time steals leader when voted in) - Kirby Puckett: 51.1 (injury discount; only played in 1783 games) - Mickey Cochrane: 52.1 (injury discount; only played in 1482 games; considered to be the best catcher ever at the time of his retirement) - Gabby Hartnett: 53.4 - George Sisler: 54.0 - Tony Perez: 54.0 - Willie Keeler: 54.1
  14. Their AD is the AD from Baylor when they covered up a horsefeathers ton of rapes by football players. Pretty scummy group they have there. Their football facilities are apparently crazy nice. Liberty gets like $50 million a month in donations or something stupid like that. Their endowment is 1.2 billion, which is twice that of Old Miss. I suspect with those kind of resources, he might make them into a pretty competitive Sunbelt team.
  15. Hugh Freeze just signed a 5 year deal with Liberty to be their HC. Match made in heaven: Southern Baptist hypocrite gets to now coach at a school founded and run by Southern Baptist hypocrites.
  16. I'm glad I got you to take a deep dive into Ole Miss' horrific season. You can spin it how you want, but my statement wasn't a false one.
  17. Exactly what I said. https://www.cfbstats.com/2018/leader/national/team/offense/split01/category10/sort01.html Narrowly edging out North Texas's elite offense. Because North Texas played an SEC schedule? Not sure why they are relevant. If someone said Bama was a Top 10 offense, would you have also brought up North Texas? I don’t get it. You could’ve just said “oh, I’ll be damned. Didn’t realize their offense was good”, instead you went all Mojo.
  18. Narrowly edging out North Texas's elite offense. lol, OMC just Derwood'd himself. How? I stated a fact. Then showed the stats to back it up. Ole Miss were Top 10 in total offense (9th). They were also Bottom 10 in total defense (121st of 130), thus why they were only a 5-7 team.
  19. Man, I dunno. Oklahoma has a terrific offense, but Bama can really strangle teams at times. Ole Miss, bad as they were, were a Top 10 offense and only scored one touchdown (on the first play of the game) and LSU and Mississippi State were shutout. Ole Miss was the what now? Exactly what I said. https://www.cfbstats.com/2018/leader/national/team/offense/split01/category10/sort01.html
  20. Yep. I've never seen a more dominant team in my life. They are exceptional on both sides of the ball.
  21. Kliff will fit in well in Hollywood. He's going to have a good time.
  22. so the Sooners should be able to score enough to at least cover. Man, I dunno. Oklahoma has a terrific offense, but Bama can really strangle teams at times. Ole Miss, bad as they were, were a Top 10 offense and only scored one touchdown (on the first play of the game) and LSU and Mississippi State were shutout. Then you factor in the fact that Oklahoma has one of the worst defenses in the entire country....that’s not a receipe for success. I doubt they cover if Tua is healthy.
  23. I bet he has an NFL itch.
