  1. Jets trade Vilma to the 'Aints for a conditional draft pick. Assuming he'll play, Vilma at 40% is still better than that carcass we have at MLB right now.
  2. Think about the roster size of a basketball team compared to a baseball or especially a football team and it will make sense. Clearly the NBA has the most physical freaks per team of any sport because of the roster size, but I'm talking about the way the game is actually played. Whenever a player went for a fast layup in the game I watched, the defenders would just get out of the way and let them have it.
  3. I haven't really "watched" an NBA game in a long time, but I watched the NO/PHX game and I must say there didn't appear to be a smidgen of defense in that game. The college game and the pro game are just so different. It seems like the disparity between college and pros, specifically the way the game looks and is played, is biggest in basketball than any of the other major sports.
  4. Keep the name, scoreboard, bleachers, and outside facade. I'd definitely have no problem with them redoing the grandstand though. The obstructed view seats can be a major pain in the ass. Plus the bathrooms are absolutely horrific.
  5. Yes. It's just my opinion. Nothing more and nothing less. My personal recollection of watching McFadden over the last 3 years is someone who is the fastest running back I've ever seen, gets past the linebackers at a pretty good clip (usually on the outside), doesn't run over people very often, doesn't juke alot, and is more likely to be pushed out of bounds than go down under contact in midfield.
  6. - Then I stand correct. He's the next coming of Jim Brown.
  7. There's 234 runs on that list and 119 are bolded, so MOST of his runs were under 3 and over 9. Thus why I said I'm not sure if it is typical or not.
  8. A) Homers are hardly unbiased observers. B) What logic?
  9. Talk about not even being close to correct. I've only seen him slam into someone once or twice. Certainly nothing close to like an AP. McFadden is a speedster and uses his speed, and not much else, to avoid contact. He's an exceptional talent, no doubt, but I just don't know how good he'll be in the pros.
  10. Not sure if this typical or not of running backs. I bolded all his runs under 3 and over 10. 11. That's surprising considering how successful he was in college. Don't listen to Mike Mayock about this one. That guy has a vandetta against McFadden for some reason. I love Mendenhall but if you gave me the choice of either, I'd take McFadden without much thought. yeah i have a hard time believing that the guy was running about 6 yards a pop without breaking some tackles. His high rushing average is due in large part (at least in my opinion) to his breakout runs he'd get alot. I get to see a good bit of SEC football down here and it seemed to me like McFadden's rushes would go something like 2 yards, no gain, 7 yards, 2 yards, 18 yards, 1 yard, -3 loss, 28 yards, 70 yards, 2 yards, etc. He depended totally on his speed and would rarely bowl over people, like Peterson (uber-stud), or juke people out of their shoes, like Bush (a bust). He seemed to just take off and people wouldn't be able to get a hand on him. With the speed the NFL seems to have at LB these days, I don't think he's going to get those big runs like he got in college.
  12. Ya, that was dumb on my part to leave him off the original....not really sure what I was thinking there.
  13. If Congress is going to insist on spending lots of time and energy with the steroids thing, I'd rather see them spend those resources on making Wrigley Field itself a historic landmark. Hell, half the damn statutes that are passed during a session of Congress are those that are making national landmarks or dedications out of stupid things such as an acre of land in New Mexico where an arrowhead was found, or whatever. If they want to get their smug faces on camera and wax nostalgic about how baseball is "America's Game" and all that other nonsense, then why not propose a bill that would make Wrigley Field a national landmark?
  14. From a purely business perspective I'd imagine that renaming it could conceivably have a detrimental effect for the purchaser, although I guess in the short term it won't for Zell personally.
  15. NFL Fan Map which is pretty neat: http://www.commoncensus.org/sports_map.php?sport=1
  16. Cardinals are the Bengals of the MLB.
  17. I was basically going to take the top 3 and make a rotation.
  18. I don't think I really need a poll for SS, 2B, or C. Anyone disagree?
  19. Couple of cool photos from the Library of Congress of the P.L., all from 1908: http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/3342/chance1wv5.jpg Check out the buildings behind the outfield in this shot, looks alot like the buildings on Waveland. http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/3752/chance2xe5.jpg http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9158/chance3bk9.jpg http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/8206/chance4dj2.jpg
  20. Added the Peerless Leader on this one: Phil Cavaretta: 1953 games, .292/.371/.416, 1927 hits, 92 HR, 341 2B, 99 3B, 896 RBI, 968 runs, 118 OPS+, 1014 runs created Frank Chance: 1274 games, .297/.394/.395, 1268 hits, 20 HR, 200 2B, 79 3B, 590 RBI, 794 runs, 136 OPS+, 638 runs created Mark Grace: 1910 games, .308/.386/.445, 2201 hits, 148 HR, 456 2B, 43 3B, 1004 RBI, 1057 runs, 122 OPS+, 1259 runs created Derrek Lee: 519 games, .308/.389/.552, 597 hits, 108 HR, 141 2B, 5 3B, 317 RBI, 331 runs, 138 OPS+, 420 runs created
  21. Tons of talk about Asante Samuel signing a monster deal with the Saints. After struggling for years watching Saints cornerbacks lining up with "throw it over here! free touchdown!" signs attached to their jerseys, I'd be happy as a pig in crap about this. Him and McKenzie would be a nice duo at corner for the 'Aints.
  22. it will be in a couple of years I hope so. By the way, I'll just go ahead and reiterate what I've said numerous times on here and what most people probably feel: It is outrageous that Santo isn't in the hall. He ranks as high as five on most 3rd baseman rankings and certainly not below ten on any rankings. I doubt there is anyone else who is unanimously a top 10 player all-time at their position that isn't in the Hall of Fame or won't get in. Also, he did all of this while being the only player in MLB history to have Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.
  23. I considered Myers as well, but in the end I figured Sutter would win this pretty handily. I don't really see much point in having a greatest SS or 2B poll either.
