  1. I'm definitely happy with this.
  2. Funny you mention Cobb because I just noticed what his sponsorship says on baseball cube:
  3. Article from when Babe was in the minors: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/5207/babe1914.jpg Robbing a homer from Cobb: http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/1429/ruthcobb.jpg
  4. Another Babe one, this one after knocking himself out on July 5th, 1924 after chasing a ball into foul territory and hitting his head on a concrete abatement. Note the amount of black fans in the photograph. The right field line was the "Colored Section" in Griffith Stadium (in D.C.) back then. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/1-BR.jpg
  5. Some nice shots of Ruth: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/babe3.jpg With Rogers Hornsby (I'd like to take this opportunity to remind people that in 1924 Hornsby went .424/.507/.696, 222 OPS+, 25 HR, 43 2B, 14 3B, 94 RBI, 121 Runs in 143 games and DID NOT win the MVP.): http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/BabeRuthalongsideRogersHornsby.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/ruthhornsbyphoto.jpg Excellent "Roaring 20's" photo: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/TheBabeinLAforBabeComesHomesm.jpg
  6. This is a very nice one: 1906 Chicago Cubs, 116-36, .763, 20 games ahead, (WS L 4-2 to White Sox) http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/1906ChicagoCubsTeamlg.jpg
  7. I think Glavine is pretty obviously a hall of famer. 300+ wins (might be last player to reach 300) 2 NL Cy Young's (4 other seasons in the top 3 in the award) 8 times in Top 10 in ERA 5 times led NL in Wins 10 time All-Star
  8. It varies. I think my Kessinger was like $15 and the Eddie Grant one I did was $5. For some of the big dogs like a Ruth or A-Rod or something it is up in the hundreds. I'm kicking myself a bit because Billy Williams was open a few months ago and was only like $30 or so, which is pretty damn cheap for a Hall of Famer's page.
  9. no and no His postseason stats are pretty damn incredible though: 11-2, 2.23 ERA
  10. Correct. I guess the only team now that has no future ballpark plans that still plays in a football stadium are the A's, and I've heard lots of talk about them moving to San Jose by like 2011 or 2012.
  11. Having a retractable roof stadium is going to help them A LOT.
  12. interesting set of pics of President Harding with the Cubs from sometime in the early 20's:
  13. I'm currently sponsoring Don Kessinger & Eddie Grant
  14. That's not what it's famous for. It's famous for being ranked 50 out of 50 in every statistically quantifiable category. Or 1st out of 50 in everything if you live in bizzaro world. However it is the birthplace of Barq's Root Beer, which I feel singlehandedly makes up for my home state's past history of injustices committed upon various and sundry ethnic minorities.
  15. Don't forget the draft is tomorrow at 6 fellas.
  16. factoid: Frank Chance is the Cubs all-time stolen base leader with exactly 400. never would have thought that. I bet the Cubs are the only team whose all time SB leader was a first baseman.
  17. #21 WILL be retired eventually. Time heals old wounds. Fergie wasn't always on the best terms with the Cubs either. So I suspect the same can be said for Sammy as well. Also, can someone explain the Gracie hatred that some people seem to have? I realize he could personally be a bit slimy at times, but I just don't get the disdain that some have for him.
  18. amazing that Miss St is only losing by 11 at the half considering they are only shooting 30 percent
  19. lol, some dummy from Miss St just bricked on a fast break slam attempt. Pretty humiliating on national TV.
  20. Following me camera guy? You know the Germans always make good stuff...like boxcars and tanks.
  21. Wow, watching Hawkins give him a 3-run HR makes me feel like I'm a vet having 'Nam flashbacks or something. YUCK.
  22. At first glance I thought the title was "Cubs sign East German"....I was like, what the hell
  23. I have to admit that might be the first of your jokes that actually made me "lol"
  24. lol, just watched it and heard the quote. Here it is in all its glory:
  25. Check out this pitching duel. This is something you will NEVER see again. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores/boxscore.php?boxid=196307020SFN July 2nd, 1963. Braves v. Giants Spahn: 15.1 IP, 9 Hits, 1 ER, 2 K Marichal: 16.0 IP, 8 Hits, 0 ER, 10 K
