  1. damn that looks really good!!
  2. Got this from another website. Freaking Albert Pujols...amazing. Cool that Vlad is in the top 20 as well. MLB Players by OPS+ to age of 25: Cnt Player OPS+ BA OBP SLG PA From To +----+-----------------+----+-----+-----+-----+-----+----+----+ 1 Ty Cobb 180 .366 .414 .513 4343 1905 1912 2 Joe Jackson 177 .365 .434 .527 3086 1908 1915 3 Mickey Mantle 174 .316 .427 .574 4116 1951 1957 4 Jimmie Foxx 171 .339 .435 .638 3938 1925 1933 5 Albert Pujols 167 .332 .416 .621 3428 2001 2005 6 Tris Speaker 166 .340 .412 .492 3231 1907 1913 7 Rogers Hornsby 165 .337 .398 .499 3577 1915 1921 8 Joe DiMaggio 156 .343 .402 .623 3116 1936 1940 9 Eddie Mathews 155 .281 .388 .556 3808 1952 1957 10 Mel Ott 153 .316 .412 .554 4645 1926 1934 11 Hank Aaron 151 .323 .372 .559 3866 1954 1959 12 Mike Tiernan 150 .303 .386 .464 3283 1887 1892 13 Joe Medwick 149 .342 .374 .564 3405 1932 1937 14 Ken Griffey 147 .302 .379 .536 3920 1989 1995 15 Arky Vaughan 147 .334 .424 .491 3712 1932 1937 16 Frank Robinson 146 .302 .384 .561 3792 1956 1961 17 Joe Kelley 146 .346 .441 .511 3344 1891 1897 18 Sherry Magee 145 .296 .367 .431 4091 1904 1910 19 Vladimir Guerrero 144 .319 .378 .587 3044 1996 2001 20 Alex Rodriguez 141 .311 .378 .571 4247 1994 2001 21 Sam Crawford 141 .303 .352 .449 3575 1899 1905 22 Miguel Cabrera 140 .309 .381 .541 3756 2003 2008 23 Orlando Cepeda 140 .310 .352 .537 3847 1958 1963 24 David Wright 139 .309 .389 .533 3047 2004 2008 25 Eddie Murray 136 .291 .354 .493 3148 1977 1981 26 Ross Youngs 136 .326 .399 .442 3028 1917 1922 27 Goose Goslin 134 .330 .393 .503 3107 1921 1926 28 Larry Doyle 134 .303 .371 .433 3235 1907 1912 29 Barry Bonds 133 .265 .358 .479 3009 1986 1990 30 Hal Trosky 133 .314 .372 .559 3379 1933 1938 31 Cesar Cedeno 132 .294 .351 .468 4126 1970 1976 32 Joe Torre 132 .300 .361 .478 3101 1960 1966 33 Rickey Henderson 131 .291 .400 .408 3488 1979 1984 34 Del Ennis 131 .298 .355 .501 3133 1946 1950 35 Greg Luzinski 130 .290 .358 .477 3054 1970 1976
  3. Sounds like heaven actually.
  4. Alou had a really solid career and if there was a Hall of the Very Good, he might make it. .303/.369/.516, 128 OPS+, 332 HR, 2,134 hits, 421 doubles, 6 All-Star appearances, 2 times in top five MVP voting.
  5. Al Davis looks like he's in that "Smeagol turning into Gollum" phase.
  6. I don't know if there has ever been a better poster boy for the proverbial "cancer in the clubhouse" than TO
  7. be funny to see two megastars today put their fists up fisticuffs style like this: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/OleMissCub17/BabeTyconfront.jpg
  8. a distant cousin of Lenny "weak groundout to the pitcher" Harris.
  9. I don't see how time matters much at all. If you live in a bigass city you expect travel time to be long to go most places in and around the city. What matters is that it just isn't an attractive place to go bring a family and watch a game. I think if they had something like MinuteMaid or Chase Field, they would have had better attendance over the past 10 years. I won't deny that the management of the team doesn't piss alot of people off, but I can't imagine that crappy management keeps all that many casual fans (who make up most attendees) from going to the park. Seriously. The Marlins were dead last in the MLB last year in attendance with only 16,600 per game. When horrific franchises like the Royals and Pirates get 4,000 or 5,000 more fans a night than you, something is up, and I doubt it has that much to do with team management. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance?sort=home_avg&year=2008&seasonType=2
  10. I really think they need an indoor place to thrive. Not just because of the heat, but the threat of rain is ever present as well.
  11. Maybe you are right. All I know is that I'd prefer the Florida Marlins not exist. I'll forever hate them and the Chicago Bears.
  12. Well since you are the expert, you don't think if they had an indoor air-conditioned facility like Houston that they would have higher attendance?
  13. Again, we have a ginormous fan base, most of which are never able to see the Cubs in person unless they come near where they live. Thus, it is a special occurrence for most people to see the Cubs play. People are more willing to put themselves through some discomfort when something is extraordinary to them. To those people in the Miami area who would make up their casual fanbase, Marlins games are routine. It's much easier for someone to be willing to sacrifice for a unique activity as opposed to something that is routine. This shouldn't be a difficult concept to understand.
  14. The Cubs generally play home games during the day. They are unique in that respect. They are also unique in that they have one of the largest fan bases of any team in any sport in the United States. Comparing them to the Marlins or any other team with a mediocre fan base and a lackluster stadium seems futile in that respect. Maybe it's because you are from Indiana and you perhaps can't fully appreciate what it feels like to have sweat run down the crack of your ass at nine in the evening, but the weather absolutely matters for teams with average fan bases.
  15. You're right. All the people I know in Miami who avoid games because of the weather must by lying. Glad that you could prove that. keyword is fans As I said before, I'm not going to cross the street to watch the Cubs play if I know I'm going to be drenched in sweat by the third inning. If there were only a handful of games, then I would probably just suck it up because I'd know my opportunities to see my team live in person would be few, but if it were just 1 out of 81 games, then I'd probably just sit at home in my recliner, watch it on TV, and drink a beer that didn't cost me seven dollars.
  16. Perhaps you are right concerning somewhat rare events, like a football game or some playoff game, but when there is a consistent weather pattern that is extremely unpleasant, that will certainly keep people away. No one wants to pay that much money to go sit somewhere and sweat. The Cubs could play across the street and I likely wouldn't make my plans around going to a game if I knew that it was either going to rain or it was going to be so muggy that I'll be drenched in sweat at eight at night. And I certainly wouldn't buy season tickets if I knew that those were the options that were most likely going to present themselves on any given night.
  17. Well, for one, the Dolphins play in the Fall/Winter, not in Spring/Summer. Second, the Dolphins have 8 games there, whereas the Marlins have 81 games. Apples and Oranges. The fact that they play at Dolphin Stadium and not an indoor facility is what kills attendance, not lack of interest in the Marlins.
  18. Screw that. CT, get your yankee ass on the ball man.
  19. The Marlins still haven't figured out a certain fact that the Astros figured out 40 years ago.
  20. Because they are stupid. One thing that has been made abundantly clear since I've lived in Denver is how ridiculous the front offices of the Broncos and Rockies are. The Rockies especially. The Monforts NEVER should have let Matt Holliday go like that. They should have paid him what he wanted...it's not like he is your franchise player or anything...idiots.
  21. Sweet...Didn't think he'd fall this far With the 14th pick in the draft, the New Orleans 'Aints select Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State Alot of people would like the Saints to select a LB, but I don't really like any in the current crop and I think that with Vilma being signed to a long term deal, that Vilma and Fujita will do just fine together. What the Saints need are some good DB's that can stay healthy.
  22. Got my photobucket crap worked out, so all my links should be working again.
  23. Doubt it. Burns spent less than 30 seconds talking about Ernie Banks and completely glossed over the '69 Cubs, didn't even mention them, in his series. His Baseball documentary was good but it spent WAY too much time focusing on east-coast centric things, many of which didn't matter. A perfect example is that he spent more time talking about Mario Cuomo's minor league career than he did about Rogers Hornsby, Ernie Banks, and Frank Robinson combined. I'm not going to blame Burns for this bias because, as a filmmaker, that is his prerogative. But one day when I have a bunch of time I'm going to measure the amount of time he gave to certain things. For example, he had something like 20 minutes talking about the destruction of Ebbets Field, but less than 5 minutes talking about Stan Musial.
  24. I'm totally pumped to see how east coast centric his "10th Inning" is going to be.... I imagine it is going to go something like this: Strike - 10 minutes Cal Breaking Gehrig - 20 minutes (WAAAY too long) Home Run Chase - 10 minutes Yankees Dynasty/Jeter love - 35 minutes 9/11 - Yanks v. DBacks - 20 minutes Red Sox 2004 - 30 minutes Red Sox 2007 - 20 minutes Steroids - 5 minutes
  25. I don't blame Cutler too much. I'd be pissed too. The Broncos management really screwed the pooch on that one. Matt Cassell will never have the talent Cutler has.
