  1. Hendry on Comcast - Deal was a "no brainer," "Kendall is outstanding defensively." "On base percentage is off the charts." "His reputation = 10" Lou will bat Kendall in the 7 spot.
  2. Why does everyone automatically assume Cuban will be the highest bidder? I think he may be too smart to get into an bidding war and overpay for the Cubs. He's a pretty smart businessman.
  3. Would love to be a fly on the wall at MLB owners meeting if Cuban somehow got approved. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2934920
  4. Good for the tow truck driver. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/story/7F7E7FDDEBB7DD6686257316005DDB92?OpenDocument Countersuit against Hancock estate progresses CLAYTON -- The attorney for the tow truck driver sued in the wrongful death case of Josh Hancock said Thursday his client intends to move forward with a countersuit against the estate of the late Cardinals pitcher. Robert Pedroli, the attorney for tow truck driver Jacob Hargrove, said the Hancock family has not responded to his requests to drop the suit that claims Hargrove and others were liable for Hancock's death. Pedroli had given the Hancocks 21 days to dismiss the suit. Hargrove, who did not attend the news conference, had pulled his flatbed truck behind a stalled car on westbound Highway 40 on April 29 when Hancock slammed into the back of the truck. Hancock, police said, was speeding, talking on a cell phone and had a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit had the time of the crash. Hargrove had activated his lights upon pulling his truck behind the stranded motorist. Hargrove, who Pedroli said suffered a concussion and post-traumatic stress syndrome in the crash, continues to work as a tow truck driver. "I believe it's a case that should never have been filed in the first place," Pedroli said, when asked if the Hancock family had been given enough time to drop the suit. "Fifteen minutes would have been long enough."
  5. Again, who other than Reinsdorf is going to oppose it? Is it MLB owners or just NL ones? It's all MLB ones. The only three I can think of who wouldn't support his bid would be Angelos, Glass and Reinsdorf. I understand Reinsdorf, and can MAYBE understand Glass, but why would Angelos care? Is Chicago infringing on Baltimore's territory like the Nats are? Because Angelos and Reinsdorf share the same brain. Aren't those the two idiots that brought us the work stoppage? Yes, IIRC the Sox were in first place at the time. Didn't matter to Reinsdorf. I wouldn't underestimate Reinsdorf's ability to sway 1/4 of the owners to vote against Cuban because he thinks it would be in the best interests of the White Sox. Also, who do you think Selig would rather have at league meetings - an old friend like Canning or a Maverick like Cuban?
  6. According to Mike North today on the Score (yes I know, consider the source) who is fairly tight with Reinsdorf, Jerry told him that there is no way the owners will allow Cuban to join their conservative little fraternity of MLB owners.
  7. Not sure who the three teams are but I heard that the other GMs are referring to them as Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest.
  8. The 5K - he doesn't look like a sprinter.
  9. I disagree with your premise that corking a bat has no effect. It may not help with home runs but it can be helpful to a player - which is probably why players risk the embarassment of being caught with a corked bat. http://www.kettering.edu/~drussell/bats-new/corkedbat.html Also, evidently not all corked bats are the same.
  10. Or maybe a teammate could crawl through rafters like a secret agent to steal evidence of a cork bat. LOL. Oops, sorry, my bad - that really did happen once.
  11. Lugo must be having a really bad year to beat out Izturis.
  12. The return of the cranky, selfish Albert? http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/emaf.nsf/Popup?ReadForm&db=stltoday%5Csports%5Cstories.nsf&docid=51E17104A4DAD6A1862573150014629B
  13. Haha, yeah, okay. Aside from the obvious fact that that's a LOT a of bats, I doubt MLB would call and say "hey guys, we're gonna come make sure you're not doing anything illegal...so get rid of all the illegal stuff now please" Yeah, that would be the equivalent of MLB "looking the other way" for years while juiced up players broke home run records and "saved baseball." Oops, maybe not a good analogy - they did do that.
  14. Freddy Mitchell's sources are telling him it wasn't just Sammy who was corking his bat. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070709mitchell,1,4195781,print.column?coll=chi-sportstop-hed
  15. So much for the Cardinals being the team getting the home town discount.
  16. Kobayashi is on the DL.
  17. Excuse me? Sorry I get you and Serena/Laura mixed up. Not to worry, I voted for you anyway.
  18. Any interest in Yi from China? He's not interested in going to Milwaukee and his agent is actively seeking possible trade partners with the Bucks. Would anyone be willing to trade Noah plus (a second round pick or Duhon or something else) for Yi? Would the Bulls have taken Yi over Noah?
  19. ho hum 6-5 win. Cubs up six and then the bullpen gives up five runs? Typical.
