    Actually, baseball is a sport where home field advantage makes a noticeable difference in the game, stemming from the home team batting last. In football and basketball it's much more of a minimal difference. So, for situations like the last Astro series, the games could've been played in Wrigley with the Astros batting last, and they'd have more of a home field advantage than the Cubs. What's the difference between home and road winning percentages in those leagues? The biggest difference in winning percentage is in the NBA, where I'm of the opinion that the officiating makes the majority of the difference. All I was saying is that baseball is the only major sport where home field advantage actually makes a difference in the way the game is played.

    Really, for the NL MVP, it should come down to Manny Ramirez, CC Sabathia, Rich Harden, Casey Blake, or Joe Blanton. Those are the only players that make sense.

    I think if Felix has any chance of making the playoff roster, he should get as much playing time as possible next week. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing Kosuke in there almost every day. Beyond that, give Lee, Ramirez, Soriano and DeRosa a good 2-3 days off, and Soto at least half the days off.

    Who at this point would you not trust for one inning over Howry? Jon Lieber, Kevin Hart, Chad Fox, Carmen Pignatiello...

    Seriously it's sad, Cubs fans are brainwashed to like him =\ Or, you know, he's just a likable guy that everyone knows is as big a Cub fan as anyone.

    I think part of the problem is a number of Astro fans really thought their team was as good as they've played the previous 3 weeks. Especially without Lee and Wigginton, the Astro offense is sketchy at best and the rotation is Oswalt and nil. The defense may have the fewest errors in the league, but they're only third in their own division in defensive efficiency (behind the Cubs and Brewers). The Astros are much, much closer to a .500 team than how they played in August and early September.

    The concern there is that Shouse is waiting in the pen to come in, and Shouse kills lefties. PH with Edmonds, and then you're stuck with Blanco after Shouse comes in, and then who? Zambrano?

    Some are arguing high, but really that pitch was right down the middle, belt high. It was a nasty pitch. If ever there were such a thing as a "gutsy call", it was that. If Prince were looking slider, that thing might still be in the air. I'll take it, though. For the record, I don't think going to Shouse in the 8th was necessarily the wrong call (and damn Reed Johnson for swinging at ball 4 twice and taking strike 3). The only RH PH options off the bench when DeRosa and Cedeno are both playing are Blanco, Koyie Hill and McGehee. I half expected Lou to put Zambrano in to PH.

    CBS still has their elimination number as 1. CBS is wrong. The Cubs are 91-58, the Cards are 78-72.

    I'd wager the great majority of the complainers would be singing a different tune had the Astros won one of the games. If they wanted to blame anyone, it should have been their owner for trying to wait out the storm and hold the games in Houston. If they had agreed to move the series right away, it would've gone to Tampa. By the time McLane finally decided it wouldn't work in Houston, it was already Saturday, and the only stadium that was 1) covered to prevent any rainouts, and 2) available Sunday and Monday was in Milwaukee.

    Yeah...Not only would Santana/Perez/Pelfrey not be a better front 3 than Harden/Dempster/Zambrano, but that's likely the worst front 3 of any team that will make the playoffs.

    I would be most pleased with a win tomorrow and a clincher on Saturday, as I'll be at both. :)

    I'll be at tomorrow's game. Coming into the season, I knew it would have been a longshot for the Cubs to clinch in this game (They would have needed a 12-game lead in the division), but I figured it'd at least still be a meaningful game. I also have tickets for Saturday. Yay for ticket drafts where most of the other guys are interested in Sox/Cubs tickets or summer tickets. :)

    The Cubs have not lost a game at Miller Park now since June 5, 2007. They've won their last 7 there.

    Depends mostly on the next 3 games. Win 2, and clinching at home becomes very likely. Win 1, and clinching at home becomes very unlikely.

    Fortunately, the Cubs can directly affect that as well next week.

    Well, and hope Houston loses once. Or sweep the Brewers and win another game the rest of the season.

    I heard the Cubs offered to play Saturday and Sunday in Tampa. Is that true? If so, the Astros owner is an idiot for not taking them up on that. He gave the Cubs 2 extra home games. I think McClane wanted to wait until Saturday to see if they could still play in Houston. By then, it was too late to get 2 games in Tampa, since the Rays are playing today. So, then, it was down to Milwaukee and Atlanta, really, and Atlanta was due to get rain yesterday and today, so Milwaukee made the most sense. It's too bad for Houston, but really anywhere they'd play the game neutrally, it'd be a virtual home game for the Cubs.

    The Cubs have a 1 in 1100 chance of missing the postseason. The Cardinals still have about a 1 in 24000 chance of winning the division, though.
