  1. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of 7 or more Big Ten teams in the tourney if they keep beating each other up, and IU gets beat up. There could be 8 teams in the league with .500 or better records, and if the conference champ ends up with 5 losses (as has happened before), nobody other than IU is really out of contention for a tourney spot yet (PSU and Iowa were closest going into conference, but PSU is now 2-1 already in conference...Iowa is 1-1 with a close game at OSU). Would not surprise me in the least to see MSU, Purdue, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, PSU or Northwestern in the tourney. I Think Northwestern will fall off even more, but besides that that looks about right Northwestern lost a close game at Stanford, a close game at Butler, a close game at PSU, and a home game to an MSU team that suddenly looks really dangerous. I wouldn't consider any of them bad losses, and they have a good win against FSU. Of course, they do need to start winning games in conference.

  3. I had no idea they were even in the top 8 right now. They suck. But their gs/ga stats would be pretty even if not for the Blackhawks matchups. Edmonton could easily overtake them though, with 3 games in hand and only 2 points behind. Chicago is probably going to end up the 4 seed though, and will be playing a significantly better team in round 1. Yeah, the only way the Hawks play someone like the Coyotes is if they somehow manage to pass a Detroit team that recently realized they will not actually be able to coast to a division title. Barring that unlikely scenario, the Hawks are much more likely to play Calgary/Vancouver/Anaheim in the first round.
  4. I predict that whoever wins will win by at least 4 TDs. I don't know who will win though. And the losing team will still score at least 30.
  5. Ten at most, I'd say.
  6. 3-0 final in a bowl game. Wow.
  7. I'm actually a little geeked about the Illini's chances of winning the Big Ten. Up-to-date Pomeroy projections have Illinois winning the conference by 2 games now.
  8. Wait who do you want on the Illinois bench? They're both pretty much irreplaceable though...Also Kramer's numbers are down this year, I think he might have taken a step down while Frasier took one up I'm pretty sure he means after this year, as a coach.
  9. Illinois has been shockingly good the past two big games now (yeah, EMU was in the middle there, textbook definition of a "coasting" game), and they have pretty much the same talent as they did last year. Their major improvement has apparently been the ability to get shots to actually go in the basket, both from the field and at the FT line. Their major weakness, though, is rebounding, which can and will be exploited by any team that crashes the offensive boards at the expense of surrendering transition points (read: nobody in the Big Ten!).
  10. I think Illinois won last night because they took extremely good care of the ball and did a great job on Hummel defensively. Both of those occurrences had a lot to do with Chester Frazier.
  11. Actual analysis of the Illinois-Purdue game, with a little extra on how Illinois is doing it: http://www.basketballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=104
  12. I don't know about have to, as a split was about as well as could be expected in the first week, but the only way Illinois gets some kind of national respect is if they win Sunday.
  13. Hey guys, what's going on with the ga....holy crap!
  14. That's because they're not. Oh my bad...Well then I heard wrong on ESPN...maybe it was at home or something They're going for a 9 game winning streak this week. You could have just said that instead of what you said and it would be have been nicer In the same vein, it's really not that difficult to do a 30-second check on ESPN to see if the information you post is correct. It's not anyone else's responsibility to fact check you. Ok well I'm at work and I heard it on the radio while driving back from lunch sorry I didn't go to fact check for you...I didn't say it was your responsibility, but don't be a jerk for no reason and just tell me I'm wrong (which I'd appreciate) instead of saying it in a smart aleck And I'm not personally trying to attack you as a person, but your post because it was a jerky thing to say 3 consecutive ranting posts for a simple "That's because they're not." reply? It was the truth. They have only won 8 consecutive games. It's not me making you look like a jerk.

  16. He deserves it after the collapse at the end of the year....I know the D is bad, but come on The D was historically bad. Second least efficient defense in the tracked statistical era (last 20 years), behind this year's Detroit defense. Do you think he deserved to stay on? Change was necessary, and at some point, wholesale change was needed. Denver was below average for most of the past few years (they were fortunate to win 8 this year, actually), so they decided to pull the trigger. They can do better, but who knows if they will.

  18. I'm not sure smack talk is the right term for it when one side is throwing out poorly researched, incorrect statements, and the other side is simply correcting them repeatedly. You correcting statements I've said, but there irrelevant to Purdue losing at home....Yeah I might not have done a good job supporting my case and looking up the stats, but you've came up with absolutely no information that actually proves anything against Purdue winning at home except that they lost to one of the best teams in the country and played horrible. You missed the point I stated in one of the earlier long posts...which is that none of the information you posted, however inaccurate, was relevant. Purdue is a slightly better team, and should win on that merit. What they've done in the past 2 years is about as relevant as the repeated beatings they took at home 3 years ago.

  22. Maybe I'm not up on my Hawks-Wings nomenclature, but is this supposed to be some kind of sleight? I was wondering that too. I've seen Dead Things, Detoilet, Wangs. That's probably my favorite, though I generally think these sorts of things are silly. Cards fans think they're so clever with Flubs, Schlubs, etc. Ugh. I do prefer Dead Wangs, myself. Yes, the names are silly. I honestly just don't catch the Sparrows reference, so I will claim ignorance and laugh uncomfortably.
  23. Last year's results: Illinois 67 at Purdue 74 Purdue 83 at Illinois 75 Illinois 74, Purdue 67, OT, at Indianapolis I consider those a few competitive games. Ha well again I wasn't factoring in the Big Ten tourney game in Indy and was factoring in the game the year before when we were up by 20 the entire game, but yeah they've been relatively close games. If I remember from last year though the 9point game wasn't that close until the end you guys made a little of a comeback There was no 9 point game. In the 7 point home victory, Purdue trailed Illinois by 8 at the half, and 9 with 15 minutes remaining before going on a 23-7 run to take the lead for good. In the 8 point road victory, it was a 3 point game midway through the second half. In the BTT game, the largest lead was the final score. The largest lead for Purdue in either game was 12.
