  1. Quite possibly the worst interview ever with Thierry Henry: http://www.majorleaguesoccertalk.com/is-this-the-worst-soccer-interview-ever/9890
  2. Sandberg is going to get the job anyway. People love him, he's been groomed for the job, he wants the job. Why hire a GM that would have to use Sandberg anyway? My biggest hope is that retaining Hendry another year will limit the Sandberg management era to 1 year.
  3. Probably the easiest way to avoid the weird contracts is to limit the % pay increase or decrease from year to year. If a pay scale can't drop by more than, say, 5% per year, that would level it out quite a bit.
  4. Sounds like a team that gets to the 2nd round. After that........dicey. Considering their options and where they were last year, this team is a good 10-15 games better. Their glaring issues last year were three point shooting and interior scoring, and they added the second-best interior option and the best 3 point shooter in the NBA. The bench is upgraded from Flip Murray/Hakim Warrick/Brad Miller/Jannero Pargo to likely Taj Gibson/Kyle Korver/CJ Watson/Omer Asik. Rose and Noah should keep improving, and the upgrade from Gibson to Boozer is huge. This was about as well as they could have done this offseason having struck out on the big 3.
  5. The more I hear about the Watson deal and Watson as a player, the more I like it. Good shooter, good with the ball, young player, got better as he got more playing time, and he's ecstatic to be coming to Chicago. Boozer, Korver, Brewer, Asik and Watson now to fill out an existing core of Rose, Noah, Deng, Gibson and James Johnson. Still about $4m in cap room to sign likely a bench big and bench guard (hopefully one more 3pt shooting threat).
  6. Also, the Asik deal is 3/$4m, so they still have cap room to play with even if Redick isn't matched.
  7. Bulls apparently offered Raja Bell a 2/$8m deal, but he signed with the Jazz instead for 3/$10m.
  8. Hollinger not a fan of the recent Bobcats-Mavs deal:
  9. So what happens to them? Do they re-enter the draft next year? I think by rule they would have to. Stern's gonna have to step in here. Second round picks don't have guaranteed NBA contracts. If they don't make the team, they can go to the NBDL.
  10. Add Butler, Pittman and Some European Guy to the list. Ilgauskas has interest in the Heat too. When can we expect Jim Gray to sit down with Theo Ratliff so he can tell us that he's taking his talents to South Beach? And how funny would it be to see Ratliff and Udonis Haslem recreate the Leno interview with Garnett and Allen from 2008: Ratliff: How you doin' champ? Haslem - I'm good, champ, how are you? They can't sign any of them unless they'll take the minimum. I haven't seen anything about them.
  11. Udonis Haslem turned down full MLE's with Dallas and Denver and has decided to re-up with the Heat. EDIT: Between Haslem and Miller, the Heat are out of cap space and will have to get their remaining 6 players to fill the roster at a minimum. Their 6-man rotation at this point is James, Wade, Bosh, Chalmers, Miller, Haslem.
  12. So we get to see a legit number 12 seed (who would have previously missed the tournament) against what would be a number 16 in this scenario? If I am understanding this correctly it seems like the little guy is getting screwed here again, while the major conferences will benefit. Apparently ESPN had it wrong at first, and it's even weirder: two of the games will be the four AQs, and two games will be the last four at-larges.
  13. I beat you by a good 10 seconds.
  14. NCAA unveils "First Four" round for 68-team field Looks like the NCAA did something different than expected here, as the last four at-large teams in the field will play the last four automatic qualifiers, wherever the at-large teams fell in the seed line (so for example it could be two 12s and two 11s). The winners would advance as normal, so for example the SWAC winner could potentially win the first round and play a 6 seed in the second.

    Week 15

Four starts this week for everybody, right? Also, I have an excess of exempt players and am looking for an extra bat to stay competitive, particularly a SS that plays and can hit.
  16. Bad memories? That was an awesome Confed Cup. Sure, it was a little disappointing to see the USMNT blow a 2 goal halftime lead, but Brazil was far better that day.
  17. If the Netherlands pulls this one out before PKs, they'll be only the second team to win 7 games in the same World Cup (Brazil 2002).
  18. If that's not a textbook case of "boy who cried wolf" I don't know what is.
  19. Not sure I like Lee. A SG who can't shoot, and isn't a particularly good defender either. He also played below replacement level the last two seasons. If the Bulls are trading for him, I hope they're either unloading salary or sending a 2nd rounder or something.
  20. Good lord, how many guys are we interested in? Screw Miami Thrice. We'll bury them with sheer numbers.
  21. If the Miller contract for 5/$30 is evenly spread, that leaves 8 million for 7 players.
  22. He's really come a long way the last two years, and shot the lights out last year in the European league. If they miss out on Redick, I'd love to see the Bulls get him, but I think he'll want more than 7 mil per year to play in the NBA.
  23. As for the Heat's salary structure... None of James, Bosh or Wade signed for the max. James and Bosh are making $14.5M this year, Wade $14.2. Chalmers is the only other player on the roster, and his 2010 salary was $756,000. That puts the Heat at about 44 mil in salary, while needing another 8 players to fill a roster. So, they have a total of 15 million to spend on 8 guys.
  24. Redick actually is pretty decent on the defensive end. I know he'll always have that sissy white guy stigma from his college days, but by most accounts he's worked hard to get stronger and better on defense. Orlando was actually using him as a defensive sub late in the year. Don't get me wrong, Redick at 7 million is so much better than Ben Gordon at 11 million because Redick is probably better on both ends than Ben at this point. He's still not what I'd consider an excellent defensive option, since he had a 107 defensive rating for a team that had a 104, meaning he was worse than the team average when he was on the floor. Granted, the team was decent defensively (better than the Bulls at 106), I just don't want to see Noah in constant foul trouble due to the team's inability to cut off a dribbler.
  25. Yeah, they're really putting Thibodeaux's wizardry to the test if it's gonna be Redick/Korver and Rose as perimeter defenders. I think my biggest concern at this point is with the team they've assembled to this point, Noah is going to play about 20 mins a game due to foul trouble. They still need some kind of a backup option at center, and hopefully a solid defensive option at guard. EDIT: Although I do like how the Redick deal is structured, since the Bulls had cap space to play with and the Magic don't. Even if Orlando matches, they're paying over 14 million for Redick this year.
