    Other than the HR to Roberts, he was absolutely on cruise control. He had the whole D-backs lineup off balance. That's why it was so odd when the trainer came out after no noticeable difference (aside from the walk, his only walk of the day).

    Also odd (but expected) that the only players that didn't see time in the game were Soto, Pena, Marmol, Wood and Grabow.

    Well, that was a weird game to be at. Hope Cashner's ok, didn't really see anything wrong when he pitched. Many of the fans were screaming bloody murder at Russell batting, but there wasn't much else to be done there. Only 2 other pitchers available, and I think Quade did the best he could with the hand dealt him today. Bad luck that Cashner was out in the 6th after pitching so well. Obvious that Samardzija would be the first guy out of the pen before the 8th, and it really hurt that Mateo couldn't find the plate.

    If DeWitt can't hit and can't field, what is his purpose in the lineup? Is there really going to be a need for a "Free DeWitt" campaign? Or do you personally just latch on to the worst player on the roster every year for kicks?

    But what is the actual discussion? Ticket sales or attendance? You don't know in advance that it might be cold, windy and rainy other than it's likely to be cold, windy and rainy in April. That there are tickets available for these games is the story, although one I'm not the slightest bit surprised at. Last week they were projecting Monday to be the worst conditions of any day in the opening week. Ticket sales are obviously a separate issue, but attendance was likely affected by the weather forecast. Coupled with the opponent and the game time, yesterday's game was a hard sell for the casual fan. Secondary market is awful right now.

    Yea day games on a Mon, Tues, or Weds haven't happened at home for quite a while. Usually Mon-Weds are night games, and Thurs-Sun are day games when playing at home. In April, most if not all the weekday games are day games.

    I didn't think it was obvious, but I could see that being the case. I'm not a Soriano hater or anything...the comment just kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I'll get over it fast if he keeps hitting like he has so far. I'm not sure the .667 SLG is sustainable, but everything else to this point probably is.

    I have a feeling that the weather forecast also affected the attendance yesterday, since it was supposed to be cold, windy and rainy yesterday. Wouldn't be surprised to see a bigger crowd today.

    Butler was 3 for 31 on two-point shots. That is historically bad and extremely likely to never happen again.

    Thank goodness for a reasonable explanation. I still don't think it would have been a terrible move (probably because I feel Reed Johnson might have a little more in the tank than he might actually have) but it would be incredibly unconventional. And part of that reason is that there are a thousand variables to consider in that situation (time/score, splits of both batters, splits of pitcher, defensive change, burning a bench player, possibility of extra innings). It's one of those decisions that is really hard to determine and so going with convention and not making waves is usually called for. Hopefully Pena won't be out more than a day or two at most because while the starting lineup may not suffer that much the bench will be stretched incredibly thin without him. I just don't think it reflects well on the staff's perception of Pena if he's lifted in game 4 based on performance matchups.

    Going to the game tomorrow, and can't say I'll have high hopes with Wood and Marmol unavailable, and Pena with an injury. Maybe Cashner will just toss a no-no and everyone can have some rest.

    Maybe I'm overly conservative, but I don't want my kid anywhere near playing full-contact football or hockey in high school, or boxing, well, ever. Plenty of other sports to go around that aren't nearly as high-risk for brain injuries.

    I hate seeing this before Gameday has updated. I'll go ahead and guess nothing good happens with Upton. You have chosen...poorly.

    I know Wood has been a reliever for a couple years now, but...I do miss having the guy hitting.

    I'm not sure I'd pinch-hit some Cub starting pitchers for Reed Johnson. I think we could just leave the defensive 1B in the game, myself.

    3-4 insurance runs would be nice, actually. Something that will be enough to have the coaching staff think "Hey, I bet Russell could probably finish this one out."

    If by giving up 5 baserunners in 2 games is a beast, then, yeah, he's a beast. They better win this one because Marmol and Wood will be unavailable tomorrow. Probably Marshall too if Quade wants any of them to last past Memorial Day. Samardzija for closer tomorrow! Context is fun, aka I'm sure the errors were his fault, and he needs to more efficiently intentionally walk a batter.

    Yeah, because there aren't any Cards, White Sox or Brewers fans on the boards...

    I'd say Anaheim, because after tonight Dallas isn't losing again.

    On the down side, that "defensive" performance last night bumped the Bulls to second in defensive efficiency behind Boston.
