  1. Somebody needs to send Minnesota a fruit basket.
  2. Simplified tomorrow scenario: 2 points: 5th and vs. Anaheim 1 point: 7th and vs. San Jose 0 points + Dallas loss: 8th and vs. Vancouver
  3. Random draw.
  4. If H2H were the first tiebreaker, the Hawks would still be in the exact same position. Lose tiebreaker to DAL/ANA, win tiebreaker against PHX/NSH/LA.
  5. Is the 7th seed the highest we can attain? Why would it be? Obviously the Anaheim/LA winner will have more points. But the Hawks catch (and would win the tiebreaker) either PHX or Nashville with a regulation loss by either of them and a ROW for Chicago. Hawks can get as high as 5th, with the following: Chicago ROW PHX regulation loss Nashville regulation loss LA/ANA does not go to OT If the Hawks win, regardless of the LA/ANA result, the Hawks will finish ahead of the loser. The Hawks win any tiebreaker with LA, PHX or NSH, even if the Hawks win in a shootout on Sunday (they win the H2H tiebreaker between both 2 and 3 teams with them). The only team they for sure lose a tiebreaker to is Anaheim, which is why they can't finish 4th. So basically, these are the scenarios, just for the Hawks: 1) Hawks get 2 points Sunday: 7th if PHX + NSH get points today, 6th if one of them gets points, 5th if neither get points. 2) Hawks get 1 point Sunday: 8th if ANA loses in OT/SO, 7th if the ANA/LA game ends in regulation. 3) Hawks get 0 points Sunday: 8th if DAL loses, out if DAL wins.
  6. If the Hawks win Sunday, they can't be the 8 seed.
  7. Simple sportswriter logic: A. Sportswriters vote on the MVP. B. Sportswriters love a good story. C. Therefore, Sportswriters will always vote the best story as MVP. D. Rose is easily the best story in the NBA this year, thus Rose -> MVP.
  8. Tampa Bay scored 5 in the 9th against the White Sox to take their first lead of the season.
  9. That'll do it, 59 wins and the 1 seed locked up. Now all that's left to play for is to see if they can hit 60 wins and catch the Spurs. EDIT: And beat the Knicks to be the only team to beat every other team.
  10. Well, everyone but the Wings...
  11. It's basically the same situation as if someone was injured the first week of the year and was declared out for the year. It's the perfect excuse to use one of the substitutions, which is a large reason they're provided. Once the season starts, though, I don't think mulligans should be allowed.
  12. Resting up for the playoffs just like my boys. Resting? Your big 4 all played over 30 minutes, and that's with sitting most of the 4th quarter when the game was out of reach. You guys got worked, and it was never really ever in question. I hope we see you in the ECF. Likewise. I don't think we can stop Dwight Howard. You truly believe this? I believe the Celtics can't stop Dwight Howard, sure.
  13. In the "I'm not saying, I'm just saying" department, tonight's opposing PGs both have higher PERs than Rondo does.
  14. No one else even deserves a vote, honestly. A decent chunk of the media still seems bent on Pops though. Honestly, I'd say Thibs is definitely more deserving of CoY than Rose is of MVP. Well yeah, because Thibs actually deserves his award. Just curious, but who's been more valuable to his team than Rose this year? Dwight Howard. Rose has undoubtedly been the best story, though.
  15. If you're an Orlando or Atlanta fan, there's a crazy detailed playoff preview up on NBA Playbook, by Sebastian Pruiti. This is just the first of 8 previews, and he's doing them once a day, trying to pick the likeliest matchups possible. Tomorrow is likely Chicago-Indiana.
  16. Part of the Thibs post-game presser: Reporter: "How important was this game to you and your team?" Thibs: "Honestly, the Cavs game means more, because this game is over already."
  17. Those last meaningless Krstic FTs are the only thing that prevented this from being the Celtics most lopsided loss of the year.
  18. According to BP's Playoff Odds/projections, Boston is still projected to finish with the best record in the majors as of this morning. Just by about 2 fewer wins than projected at the year's outset. Tampa, on the other hand, is not looking good.
  19. ok well NOW its over. It's an interesting question....how long would this streak have to go before rational people started saying ....maybe this is a legit problem. 0-10? 0-15? Well, the 1982 Atlanta Braves had an 11-game losing streak and still made the playoffs. At that point, there's probably cause for some more serious concern. To win 100 games in a year, a team has to win 61.7% of their games. After the start they've had, playing at a 62% pace for the remainder of the season would win them 96 games. So it's not completely detrimental yet. After an 0-11 start, playing at a 62% pace would win them 93 games overall. That may not be enough to make the playoffs (although, the Rays are in nearly the same position).
  20. 0-6 now.
  21. Another oddity: the Cavs no longer have the worst record in the NBA, as winning 4 of their last 12 games caused them to pass Minnesota. They can't even tank right.
  22. Yeah, the only real downer from last night's results is that the Hawks can no longer get the 4 seed. Either LA or Anaheim (or both) will finish ahead of them.
  23. That's also prior to tonight's results.
  24. Spurs clinch 1 seed, Pacers clinch 8 seed, Thunder clinch division, Portland and New Orleans clinch playoff spots.
  25. It's encouraging that most of the bullpen and rotation to this point have been at least adequate, and that most of the lineup is performing (well, the important parts of it). Soto should pick it up at some point, and 2B is going to be a hole this year, which is to be expected. At least with Barney in the field it's only a hole on one end.
