    Week 15

Something is messed up. My lineup is set to have Ellsbury in the lineup and Quintana pitch today, not Morales, but when I check the live scoring Morales is still in the lineup, and Ellsbury and Quintana are not. I'm just hoping it fixes itself by the time the Cubs' game starts, but if it doesn't, that is what I am trying to have set up.
  2. Jonah Keri sums up my thoughts on Colvin nicely:
  3. Well, at least the Marlins signed one player from the first three rounds.
  4. PR on Underwood: CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs have signed right-handed pitcher Duane Underwood, their second round selection (67th pick overall) in the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Underwood, from Pope High School in Georgia, will report to Mesa. Overall in 2012, the Cubs signed each of their first 20 picks and 29 players overall selected in the draft. Underwood, who turns 18 a week from today, was 6-1 with a 2.36 ERA on the hill, striking out 75 and walking 34 in 50.1 innings pitched this past season for Pope. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder struck out 15 hitters in 6.1 innings of work, March 9 vs. Lassiter. At the plate, Underwood batted .337 (35-for-104) with seven doubles, two triples, six home runs and 19 RBI.
  5. Bringing Vitters up now would be exactly something the old management would do, and is exactly what they did do with any prospect that showed a month's worth of progress. That is why I like the new regime.
  6. Nobody under the age of 30 even really remembers the Dream Team. Under 21 probably doesn't remember any career of any NBA player on that team. I'd figure allegiances would be divided along those lines, mostly.
  7. I've been reading that MSU is the likely destination. Well in that case, [expletive] him.
  8. Rangers demoted to Scottish Third Division, which is their fourth-tier league.
  9. Also, from reading that Almora article, it indicates that Underwood is as of yet unsigned. Didn't he sign a week ago, or did they just come to an agreement that has yet to be signed?

    Week 15

Since it's a 3 day week across all MLB, I'm just going to play under the assumption that three starts for the week is the rule. Not that I like the idea of a three day fantasy week, but I'm not exactly in the playoff hunt anyway, so it doesn't matter a whole lot. Also, Jacoby Ellsbury is actually coming off the DL, so I shifted Hutchison to the DL to keep the roster legal.
  11. A fluff piece and fluff video on Almora: http://mlb.mlb.com//news/article.jsp?ymd=20120709&content_id=34773094&vkey=news_chc&c_id=chc But, hey, Almora video!
  12. Regarding Parker, if he didn't want to go to Illinois, I'm glad he left them off the finalist list so the process isn't strung out. He was probably going to end up at UK/UNC/Kansas/Duke anyway, so at least Illinois doesn't have to devote resources to recruiting him any more. Far, far better than He Who Must Not Be Named.
  13. So if three top 10 picks in the draft fail to sign, how much of a failure does that make the new format?
  14. I'm going to say this as nicely as possible, but WSR, you are constantly clueless as to the value of any player at any level at any point in baseball history. Stop trying to evaluate players.
  15. Heh heh, sure sounds like he would have said no at $3.5, eh? Heh. And that is why players hire agents.
  16. That video certainly looks at Zambrano's season through rose colored glasses.
  17. One more thing, Vitters' problem has never been his strikeouts, it's been a lack of power at a traditional power position, and a lack of plate patience to make up the difference in his typical lack of power. Power has improved a lot this year in the PCL, but...it's the PCL. Power does that in the PCL. His plate discipline improvement has been the most encouraging, but only because it's gone from "not a prospect bad" to "pretty bad".
  18. Granted, those players were noted because they did it in the PCL at older ages. Vitters is only 22. Also, Vitters is among the top 25 in the PCL in SLG and OPS. Just behind Luis Valbuena. With any minor league production, though, it's more about the method than the results.
  19. How have you missed this until now? But yes, we do. And I want him to be awesome just because of the name. Although I think it would have been hilarious if the guy were a soft-tossing lefty. Or a scrawny utility player.
  20. Glad to see some numbers back up my concerns. This is also why the Cubs should never trade Castro unless the return involves either an entire team's system or an already superior major leaguer.
  21. I completely missed this when it happened, but apparently Yaroslava Shvedova played a Golden Set in the first set against 10 seed Sara Errani in the third round. Only the second Golden Set in recorded pro tennis history, and something that seems impossible. I'm not sure if I can liken it to something in a more familiar sport, but it's kind of like a pitcher throwing a perfect game without missing the strikezone.
  22. The other unnamed piece in the deal is that for the salary numbers to match up, several players need to be signed to insane deals to be traded. Lopez would have to be signed to a max deal prior to the trade.
  23. I have no idea why any team other than the Nets would do that deal.
  24. Surprisingly enough, only Giolito and Hensley are HS kids with the leverage of a college commitment. The new CBA has really sped up the process of high picks signing (probably the only nice thing you can say about the new CBA). I'm not sure how much of that is the slot system and how much of that is the signing deadline.
  25. There are as of now 6 first rounders still unsigned: 4. Kevin Gausman, RHP, Orioles 8. Mark Appel, RHP, Pirates 9. Andrew Heaney, LHP, Marlins 16. Lucas Giolito, RHP, Nationals 25. Richie Shaffer, IF, Rays 30. Ty Hensley, RHP, Yankees
