  1. Cubs now an unfathomable 0-16 in NL West road games, being swept by all five teams this year.
  2. Ouch. See, now that is a joke.
  3. All I'm really saying is that if Cabrera does win the Triple Crown, 1) He'll win the MVP easily 2) Despite RBIs being mostly a team-motivated stat, winning the Triple Crown is both rare and cool 3) No Triple Crown winner had a season where winning MVP was a joke, and Cabrera is no exception 4) I'm hoping he does, so I don't have to try to remember how to spell the name Yastrzemski again.
  4. Trout has a higher wOBA and higher wRC+. Cabrera is .6 higher in batting runs above replacement, but he has also played 154 games to Trout's 132. Trout is .002 higher in wOBA and 6 wRC+ (and leads in B-VORP). That is the "close second" part of what I said. Cabrera leads OPS, weighted OPS, and OPS+, and leads overall batting value (in the AL), which is what I was basing "better offensive player" on, since that's the offensive portion of FanGraphs' WAR calculation.
  5. RBI% is a much more useful stat for an individual, and Cabrera is actually second in the league there (behind Hamilton). He does lead the league (or a very close second) in most reliable rate offensive categories. The only thing that makes the WAR between Trout and Cabrera so lopsided are the numbers for defense and base running. If you consider defensive statistics and base running statistics as valuable as fWAR does, then Trout is clearly having a better overall season. But Cabrera has been the better offensive player this year, and it'd hardly be a joke if he won. A joke would be if, say, Albert Pujols won the MVP.
  6. MacPhail's grand plan got torpedoed by his manager, who treated pitchers like Kleenex. Hendry's grand plan changed almost every offseason.
  7. By the time the players hit the ground, which is when possession is determined, both players had the ball. Simultaneous catch goes to the offense. Unless I'm misunderstanding the rule. Putting one hand on the ball doesn't mean Tate "had the ball".
  8. Okay, worst fantasy loss ever.
  9. My fantasy team leads by .04 points right now, and I have the Green Bay D. If Seattle goes for the XP here and makes it, I lose.
  10. I really wish New Orleans at Arizona was a week 4 game, just to see what in the world those odds would be.
  11. okay jaydee
  12. He's already getting an undeserved push for the award. I'm not sure it's that undeserved. He has the second highest WAR in the AL, and the highest wOBA. His WAR is dragged down by fielding and baserunning, but he's not a terrible choice for MVP.
  13. 6 interceptions in the first half. It's a defensive struggle!
  14. All six Cub hitters that inning hit the ball well.
  15. They've also gone from scoring 3.7 runs a game to 4.0. I wonder how much of that is Rowson and how much is getting guys like Valbuena and Castillo into the lineup. It's some of both, I suspect. What's the difference in walk rate between Valbuena/Castillo/Jackson and Stewart/Soto/Byrd/Campana?
  16. Batting walks. Pitching walks they've given up 215 walks, good for third most in the NL and sixth most in the majors.
  17. I'm not sure that nobody to Kenny WIlliams is an upgrade.
  18. I hear Bridgeview is the place to be for pro sports these days.
  19. Dempsey starting for Spurs today.
  20. I started reading your post and about halfway through it I looked at your info to confirm my guess that you do not live in Chicago. I didn't care about the White Sox when I lived on the East Coast. Unfortunately, I moved back to Chicago in time for the 2005 baseball season, and it was hell on Earth. I live in fear that I will have to one day live in a world where idiot White Sox fans are celebrating another World Series title and taking every opportunity to belittle Cubs fans. It's just really annoying and their fans are idiots, so it does bring a healthy amount of hate to the table. Who cares about the White Sox? It doesn't make a difference for the Cubs or their fans, and acting like it does is just playing into the inferiority complex that everyone is so sure the Sox fans exhibit.
  21. Just as everyone predicted, the only winless team in the NFC after two weeks is New Orleans.
  22. The Big Ten is currently 4-8 against major conference foes. And three of those were Northwestern.
  23. The Astros are actually 8-7 in September, which is something considering they were 8-46 in July and August.
  24. Jozy Altidore with the hat trick today for AZ, and his 7 goals in 5 games for the season leads the Eredivisie in goals by double over the next closest player.
  25. The Oklahoma City Thunder have hired noted stat geek Sebastian Pruiti as their video analyst. I'm bummed, because his articles on video analysis are awesome.
