  1. Utah 18, San Diego state 17 at the half today. Sounds like a low scoring football game.
  2. There are a lot more Blackhawk bandwagon fans than there are that. Though I'm sure anyone who did that is probably a huge Blackhawks "fan" now too. The Blackhawks thing wasn't so much related to the team being bad as it was the owner actively driving fans away with everything he did.
  3. Faroe Islands went to Greece and won 0-1. Greece sacked their coach after this result. Greece is also in 6th place in their group, currently 0-3 at home against Faroe Islands, Northern Ireland and Romania.
  4. So Gammons did say this, but there was a lot more too it, and it didn't sound like it was nearly a done deal when you listen to the actual audio clip. They just played it on the Score. Care to elaborate on what he did say? Gammons actual comment was IasdfalkdjgetablkjthelkajsdbfeelinglalksthatlkjasdltheljkcgpCubsjasd;flkjasethinkasdlvJonaamzxdLesteragheteisbnaethgoingq6598backthgabtoaghBoston
  5. Keep in mind, the Marlins also signed Jose Reyes to a 6 year, $106M contract that shocked people that thought the Marlins would never give out a big contract, and then promptly dealt him less than a year later.
  6. Game over. 114-56.
  7. This is more encouraging than the first game.

    NFL week 11

Seattle is now 6-4, 0-1 in the NFC West, and 5 of their 6 remaining games are in the division. They have yet to play the 49ers and Cards.
  9. This isn't going to be a thing for you, is it? If Rose plays 50 games this year and is healthy for the playoffs, I'd feel better about the playoffs than if Rose goes 35 minutes a game for 80 games this year.
  10. And that was the last time anyone followed BP on twitter Man, grats WSR on the BP writing gig.
  11. Idiot, yes. Why creeper? He used to have the @ESPNChiBulls twitter handle, but he was so obsessed with cheerleaders on his feed he lost it and had to use his personal twitter account. Seriously, almost half the tweets from the old handle were creepy details about the cheerleaders at the game.
  12. In fairness, though, Nick Friedell is also an idiot, and a creeper.
  13. He postulates the Cubs either have to move Castro to LF or trade him. False dichotomy.
  14. Auto-bids for the Power 5 (which is an even worse idea, but it's going to happen). They're not expanding to 8 without them. Almost every league has 3-loss teams at least kind of in the race for the title, especially with the unbalanced schedules in the SEC and B1G. Current leaders: ACC: 7-1 Duke, 8-0 FSU B1G: 7-1 MSU/7-1 OSU, 7-1 Nebraska B12: 7-1 KSU P12: 8-1 Oregon, 7-1 ASU SEC: 7-2 Mizzou, 8-0 MSU LOOK AT ALL THE 3 LOSS TEAMS RUINING COMPETITIVE FOOTBALL.
  15. It'd be a more believable hypothesis had the Royals' baserunning actually provided more value than other teams, but they were actually in the middle of the pack. It's akin to attributing the 2005 White Sox success to grinder ball even though they led the AL in homers. Per BP, KC led the MLB in baserunning runs by a wide margin. What metric are you using? FG's Base Running Runs Above Average. They were 1.2 runs above average, while the Nats, Indians and Twins were over 10. (Cubs were basically neutral here).
  16. On the other hand, one thing the Royals did excel at was fielding and defense (along with the Cardinals), which would actually provide reasoning for some of the positive variance they (and the Cards, actually) had vs their third order win %.

  18. Yeah, Billy Beane should have actually PLAYED BASEBALL before he wrote Moneyball and became a GM.
  19. The Mets only have 20 years left on Bobby Bonilla's contract payments.

  21. The funniest thing about Cards' fans indignance is that it has a very "Steinbrenner-Mattingly" vibe about it, as if there were no way the Cards would put up with a manager that was as unkempt as Maddon was yesterday.
  22. Great piece by Christina Kahrl on the Maddon hiring, and what it really means for the Cubs: http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/53197/skip-the-stats-maddon-an-inspired-choice Also a great point about why it was smart to not hire Sandberg beyond the stats reasons: nobody cares when you fire Sveum or Renteria after a year or two. People would care, however, if you unceremoniously dumped Sandberg after a couple rebuilding years.
  23. It's expensive for a LOOGY, about right for a long reliever, and cheap for a 4/5 starter. So, depending on his role, it's a good deal.
  24. I hate to contribute to that show's ratings but.... agreed 100% Have a feeling I'd be really disappointed with that show since the Kaplan to Maddon/Theo ratio will be too lopsided.
  25. Maddon ends the press conference by buying a shot and a beer for all the reporters there. Your move, Paul Molitor.
