    Read this in an article over on The Ringer and immediately thought, that probably isn't even the clear most athletic infield in Chicago. I think that infield is more "athletic" than the Cubs'. That obviously doesn't come close to equating to "good at baseball" though. I read "athletic" there as "good at football", which is as meaningless a metric as any that's been used to describe any form of White Sox aptitude in recent years.

    #71: Russell Makes Impossible Catch, Saves 3 Runs Why on the list? - Of all the regular-season defensive mastery the Cubs exhibited, this was the best defensive play I've seen. He was actually shading Polanco up the middle, ran 107 feet, and caught the ball about a foot from the line. It was one of the most efficient defensive route of the season by Statcast at 98.5% efficient. The Cubs held on for a 6-5 victory, making the catch doubly important in hindsight.

    #72: Fowler Comes Off DL, HRs on First Pitch He Sees Why on the list? - Fowler started the season on an unreal tear, but injured his hamstring in mid June, putting him out for nearly 6 weeks. Fortunately, he picked up right where he left off here, homering right away, and driving in 3 runs in a 5-2 Cub victory where they finally started to pick themselves up from a dreadful stretch in late June and early July.

    #73: Cubs Complete Crazy Comeback vs Mariners Why on the list? - The 9th inning of this wild game is all about great baserunning, with Russell taking a heads up extra base on a single when the LF throws to 3rd, then Contreras beating out a tailor-made double play ball, and then Russell scores on an 0-2 wild pitch to tie the game. Then in the 12th, with one out and a runner on 3rd, Maddon goes to Jon Lester, who everyone knows is there to bunt, and he bunts anyway with two strikes and gets the squeeze down, scoring Heyward. Just a wild game.

    The Bulls are a terrible organization, top to bottom, they aren't fun to watch, they are wasting Butler, have no future, and have no present.

    #74: Cubs Finally Break Through in 13th Against Pirates Why on the list? - For those who don't remember this game, it was also the game Soler tied it in the 9th with a HR, then the Cubs had about a billion chances to win in the 10th, 11th, and 12th, including two separate instances where Baez was thrown out at the plate when he would have won the game if safe. The Pirates ran out of decent pitchers eventually, though, and they ran out of luck eventually too, being the first of a string of teams making poor decisions to intentionally walk the bases loaded in front of Miguel Montero, who takes it personally each time. This was the first of Montero's winning hits of the year.

    #75: Contreras Wastes No Time Why on the list? - There were concerns that Contreras was ready for big league action. However, first major league AB, on Sunday Night Baseball, capacity crowd, standing ovation, one pitch, gone to CF. Fans everywhere instantly fell for Contreras, and he continued to impress all season long.

    #76: Rizzo Makes the Catch and Sticks the Landing From the Ledge Why on the list? - There were about 10 things that could have gone wrong with that effort, but Rizzo calmly stepped onto the ledge, reached into the crowd, hopped back over the tarp, and landed safely. That was a much more difficult catch than Rizzo made it look.

    #77: Kyle Hendricks, Master of Pitching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFN8XouajfM Why on the list? - Kicking off a weekend where the Cubs could lock up the NL Central with a sweep in St. Louis, Hendricks casually takes a no-hitter into the 9th where it's broken up by a HR. Cubs win anyway, NBD.

    #78: Kyle Hendricks, Master of Baserunning Why on the list? - Don't see this very often. Hendricks scores the go-ahead run against the Rockies by running over the plate and missing it entirely, then casually walking back to touch so as not to draw suspiciion.

    #79: MLB, Meet Albert Almora Why on the list? - Technically Almora made his debut the night before with a PH appearance, but this was his first MLB start, and yes, Phillies, he's a pretty good defender.

    #80: The Jason Heyward Game Why on the list? - I mean, Heyward was responsible for all 3 runs in an extra-inning win against the Giants, including the walk-off single in the 13th. Wasn't especially pretty in any AB, but he came through 3 times.

    #81: Hail Szczur! Why on the list? - Broke open a tight game, Szczur had his fair share of clutch hits, especially early on in the season. The forgotten Cub in the postseason, he still contributed plenty to the team during the regular season. Also, I suppose I should mention one of the best pun matchups of 2016...

    #82: Javy Pulls a Reverse Bartman Why on the list? - This one stood out to me, diving into the stands to take one back from the Marlins. It's no dancing on the wall or amazing tag, but it's a good measure of focus and concentration and timing to dive right when he needed to to make the play.

    #83: Chapman Get 3 Outs on 3 Pitches Why on the list? - Chapman is renown for missing bats, so the Cards decided they wouldn't wait around for strikeouts, each hitter swinging away at the first pitch they saw. That didn't work either. Notable for being the Cardinals, and the most impatient inning against Chapman in his career.

    #84: Ross Hits #100 Why on the list? - Ross certainly went out with a bang this year, having his best offensive season in years. He hit a few memorable HRs during the season, but his personal #100 was certainly one of the big ones.

    #85: Everyone Plays Defense, Even Travis Wood Why on the list? - This was probably at best the 3rd most memorable thing about this game, however it is still unique and a lasting memory of the season. This wasn't even the first time Maddon put Wood in LF. This was the first time, however, that someone hit a ball that way, and Wood made the play up against the ivy in what at the time was basically a laugher with the Mariners that quickly became more interesting. Also, this was no simple play. From StatCast: Route efficiency: 90%; Distance covered: 63ft; First step: 0.2 sec; Top speed: 15.5 MPH

    #86: Rizzo Walks-Off on a Strike Why on the list? - I mean, it's a walk-off. It's not a particularly exciting walk-off, but it was the Cubs 10th win straight, and it was against the Cards, and that pitch was definitely a strike that Rizzo took away because of his batting stance. Or maybe Molina blew it with his pitch framing. Either way, win.

    #87: Soler Power Why on the list? - Soler starts the game by somehow missing a HR by about 3 feet despite crushing it to left, then launches one to the middle of the bleachers in center in the 9th to tie the game. By far his most clutch offensive performance of the year, and some flashes of just how strong Soler is when he connects on a ball.

    #88: Lester Shuts Down Dodgers Why on the list? -Up to this point, Lester had struggled against the Dodgers in his career. But this game was only the start of Lester's dominance against the Dodgers this year, tossing a CG 4-hitter with 0 walks and 10 strikeouts. He even made a couple defensive plays on the mound.

    #89: Jason Heyward's Range is "Ball In Play" Why on the list? - If there was going to be one spot in any park that was out of Heyward's range, it would be the 421 foot right-center corner at AT&T Park. Well, Span hit it there, and Heyward got it anyway. If the ball is in play, it's in Heyward's range.

    #90: Coghlan has Just Enough Time to Hurt Cards Why on the list? - The Cubs couldn't buy offense this game off Carlos Martinez, but in the 6th they finally loaded the bases with singles from Bryant, Rizzo, and Heyward. Coghlan worked the count full, then Martinez took his time delivering home. Coghlan tried to call time, but the ump ignored him, so he stepped back and and ripped a 2-run single, just for spite, probably.
