I respect your suggestion, but there is no way that game was even close. The hype for this game dwarfed the hype for this game. The Packers and Bears are one of the best rivlaries in sports, and we've played games against them in so many different scenarios, in 10 different decades, in rain, snow, wind, ice, heat waves, when the packers were good and the bears sucked, when the bears were good and the packers sucked, when both teams were good. But one place this rivalry hasn't played out besides once, is in the playoffs. This is huge. The Bulls are maybe the 4th biggest team in Chicago. The Bears are the unquestioned number 1. You never hear people talking about Bulls offseason in June like they do the Bears all year long. And with the Bulls, I remember my exact feelings going into that game. You know what they were? "I wonder how many games it will take us to win the finals". You know what they were when we were down going into the 4th? "This is an awesome way for the Bulls to pull it out". At that point, I wouldnt have believed the Bulls were going to lose until they actually lost. And they didn't. And I know I'm not the only one that thought that way. The Bears and Packers fans both want this so badly. For for the chance to get to a game that each team has only gotten to a couple of times in the last 45 years, for the chance to get the ultimate one up on the fan base that it despises, etc. No one was thinking "oh man I cant wait to one up the stupid pacers fans when we win this", nor were any pacers fans looking to rub it in our faces (or if they did we'd jsut say "yawn we were bored of winning titles every year"). It's really completely different than any other sort of game a Chicago team has ever played, based on the importance of the game, the build up to the game, and the history of the 2 teams. No other game that wasn't a championship game has been able to claim all 3 of those things. That's why its the biggest non-championship game in Chicago history in my lifetime. A suggestion is all that was. I agree with your stance.

No, the Bulls don't have a chance at getting Carmelo. I'd be very surprised if Carmelo is moved at this rate.

I'm actually surprised no one has mentioned Game 7 of the Bulls-Pacers series in 1998. From what I remember before that game, there wasn't really too much of a question of whether or not the Bulls would win. I guess that has something to do with why that isn't being considered as one of the bigger games in the history of Chicago. But the Pacers built a pretty sustainabile lead before the Bulls came charging back down the stretch to win an, otherwise, ugly game. There was so much on the line in that game that, in retrospect, it should be considered one of the biggest games to take place in Chicago.

I'm going to assume Denver's going to hold onto him and sell to the fans that they plan on re-signing him. If he doesn't, they'll paint Carmelo as the bad guy and management will sort of get a pass from the public. Think about how poorly Denver has handled this whole situation. Does anybody think that they're going to trade Carmelo now that their best bidder has pulled out of the race? I don't.

Nobody I've seen, and it's completely wrong, anyway. It's not even the biggest game in Bears sports history. Probably not even the biggest game for the Bears in the last 10 years (Super Bowl v. Indy). Now Green Bay, on the other hand... I'm treating it about the same as the 2007 NFC Title Game against the Giants.

That's not true. People are calling this the biggest game that's been hosted in Chicago, not the biggest game in sports history.

Exactly. NFL Network blows the [expletive] out of whatever coverage is on ESPN.

The Bears national imprint is very large. They might not have a Sal Palentonio, who is a Philly guy because he's from Philly, but they will always attract one of the largest audiences in primetime. They are one of the biggest draws in Vegas as well. They were more or less a non-entity for 1.5 decades and when they splashed on the scene 4 years ago it was with defense, and very short lived. If Chicago turns into a consistent contender with offense, they will be as marketable as any team in American sports. Its really bizarre. As soon as the Bears are good they pull enormous numbers on primetime games (Eagles game, the Patriots game), yet they still don't really have a dedicated reporter from ESPN. Theres Michael Smith...sometimes. Both Packers and Bears fans should be pissed the NFL Live spent more time commiserating about the Patriots losing than on pregame for this game. I'm really not sure why you're watching NFL Live in the first place.

Pretty much. Deng has the occassional good game every now and then, such as Monday's game. Besides that, the rest of the team isn't very good.

It beats Hochuli, but that's still a joke. You do realize the Packers actually committed those penalties? They would have gotten their butts pounded if they didn't commit all those penalties keeping the Bears off them. Lots of people seem to be forgetting that those penalties weren't gifts. They were the result of a poorly coached team that was having a lot of trouble handling the Bears that night. The PI on Burnett was a horrible call and that ultimately put the Bears in FG range for Gould at the end. But yes, almost all of the other penalties were our own doing. You won't find me arguing that.

Perhaps I should've specified beat guys. Radio pundits have to criticize the team to provide some sort of argument. I don't have a problem with guys like Boers & Bernstein being fans of the team, but rather guys who actually make a living as a beat writer for that team. Mike Mulligan is another good one.

Nothing will happen. Even if they replace the sod, it won't take by Sunday. They played on a sheet of ice in Minnesota...they'll play on some bad grass in Chicago. That's just the Green Bay press whining. Unlike the Chicago press, the Packers beat writers aren't fans of the team. Objective journalism. Who knew such a thing existed? are you freaking kidding me? i hope you're being saracstic, the packer fan base and media coverage are indistinguishable from one another. i've never met a group of fans or a media base that was more rah-rah about the home team. chicago will tear their own team apart, even being a bears town. Give me an example of a Bears reporter who tore the team apart. Holmes, Zaidman, Dickerson, Biggs, and Mullin are all pretty big homers. Especially the first three.
