Cause we had no outs and 3,4,5 coming up. it was dumb. Soriano is fast enough to score The rule of thumb that 3rd base coaches uses is this: If the ball gets to the OFer (in this case the CFer) before the runner even gets to third you hold the runner up. In this case Soriano was a good 3 steps away from 3rd when the ball got to Freel. Holding Soriano up there was the good call. Yeah, I don't think you can fault Quade for not wanting to risk a baserunner on third with nobody out and the best hitters in the lineup at bat. none of those guys have gotten a hit today. give me a break. freel threw home and it was cut off because soriano was standing on 3rd. Give me a break, they should have forced the action when runs are scare. Force them to make a good throw. Quade sent Theriot is a similar situation in MIL (the CF had the ball and if it hadn't been for a great slide he was out). Again, we had first and third with NO OUTS and the heart of the order coming up. You never ever want to make the 1st out of an inning at home. It wasn't worth it.

The Reds were conceeding the run, Freel didn't even throw to the plate. The Reds announcers said the same thing; they were surprised he didn't score. Soriano would've been meat at the plate. Freel didn't throw it home because Theriot would've probably tried to take 2nd on the throw.

If you told me that runners were going to be at 1st and 3rd with no outs and the heart of the order coming up, I would NEVER send the runner home if it was going to be a close play. You don't want to make the first out of an inning at home.

But Soriano was our big offseason acquisition and is supposed to be setting the table. I'd like to see more patience out of Barrett too, but Soriano is starting to really aggravate me. Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. I'm getting pretty annoyed by the fact that it seems like he starts out every count at 0-2. But Barrett has had his fair share of pretty bad ABs as well.

I know Soriano's been struggling, but Barrett hasn't had that much better of a start either.
