  1. Yes, that's the approach that I'm going to take as well. Get this thing back up to 3 games and take care of business against our favorite punching bags this weekend. of course, if we lose tonight, season's over.
  2. Probably because he'll just be used for mopup duty. Isn't there still a year left on his contract too? They'll probably just pitch him in low leverage spots for the rest of the year and hope he can figure it out next year before the season starts -- although I'm not really optimistic with a guy that has looked as hittable as he has.
  3. He's already down to 750 OPS against RHP for the season and pretty weak overall in the second half while Murphy is 830 vs RHP and scorching hot in the second half. I don't think they'll be riding the Bote train over Murphy much at all. That's kind of why they got him. I think they got him because it is questionable what they'll get from Bryant the rest of the year. He fills the gap until Bryant is as close to 100% as he'll get. Then he's insurance on Bote as well. If everything goes right, I don't think he (Murphy) starts much. I think I've given sufficient caveats as to the many things that could go "not right". I really think you're overestimating how much Bote is going to play. He's been a part time starter ever since he's been up, and that's been with KB hurt & without Murphy. Now, you acquire one of the hottest hitters in the league (post ASB). I would guess the plan is for Murphy to be the everyday 2B, play 7 innings, get a lead, and then be subbed out for Russell while Javy is moved from SS over to 2B when the team is at full strength (if KB is ever alive again). I think they got him because they've had a replacement level player playing at SS over the last couple of months. Plus, the offense as a whole, obviously, hasn't been great either since the break.
  4. I really hate that Russell is still starting every day.
  5. he has nearly 2000 MLB PA's and is barely a 90 OPS+ player. last year it was a shoulder injury, now it's a finger injury. people need to just admit that he's not a very good hitter. The Cubs would be better off with Javy at SS and Zobrist/Bote at 2B, while some idiotic team takes "Addy" for a decent starting pitcher. hopefully that happens in the offseason.
  6. isn't the pitcher basically hitting 9th whenever Russell plays?
  7. They will get better if their best position player and best pitcher can return healthy. that's kind of a big if considering their status right now.
  8. the other team can hit dongs. why can't we hit dongs anymore?
  9. not really that surprising considering how bad Rizzo actually has been this year, minus that stretch in May.
  10. Rizzo gonna go on a diet or nah? seemed to work pretty well for Schwarber. Rizz has looked like he's been carrying a piano on his back all year.
  11. maybe they're taking it easy with Morrow after a 4 out save on Sunday?
  12. probably would have the second most HR's on this dong-less team, right now.
  13. Top 3, I assume, but yeah...that's sort of what I was thinking in my 'unrealistic' scenario, with Bamba and Porter being the two picks too.
  14. The only way I'd move up to #4 is if you can somehow keep #7, but that's not realistic. If Parsons was a FA after next year, then I'd be all for it -- that second year remaining is brutal though, and I'd rather it not preclude them from doing anything next offseason. One of Porter, Bamba, or Carter should be there at #7, you'd have to think.
  15. I don’t know the exact process of the lottery but the coin flip was just to determine seeding if neither moved up. They had the exact same odds of picks 1-3. So it’s quite possible that it wouldn’t have mattered. I don’t know how the balls are assigned. And I’d rather just assume either way we would have been 7. Pretty big disappointment, though. Accoring to Zach Lowe, the Bulls "winning" that tiebreaker with the Kings cost them the #2 spot because the Bulls would've had those lottery combinations that the Kings ended up having. Pretty disappointing, but they managed to screw up enough this year by winning games they shouldn't have been winning anyway. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23515949/zach-lowe-2018-nba-draft-lottery-phoenix-suns-sacramento-kings
  16. Doesn't really reflect well on Scott Brooks, and I'm sure Washington fans probably aren't that impressed with him either. They only had three years with Harden before trading him and they were good all three years. There are plenty of reasons to dislike Brooks as a coach but I can’t fault him for not winning a title or making more than one finals with that trio. maybe, but we have the benefit of hindsight. Even with playing the Big 3 Miami team, I still feel like KD/Russ/Harden/Ibaka should've won that series for OKC. Hell, I thought going into the Finals at the time, they should've won the title that year.
  17. Doesn't really reflect well on Scott Brooks, and I'm sure Washington fans probably aren't that impressed with him either. As for Toronto, I think they have to at least look at trading DeRozan. As long as LeBron is alive and playing basketball, there's no way that team is going to beat Cleveland. Teams that pride themselves on depth and great benches (like Toronto does) usually don't win championships. Just look at the Bulls earlier this decade...lol.
  18. I turned it off after the top of the 9th and feel exactly the same.
