  1. Pretty pathetic, if true. Not really. With him every game is a guaranteed sell-out. They would go from a top 3 quarterback last year to hoping for a middle of the pack QB at best this year. With him they have a legit shot at the Super Bowl, without him they have a legit shot at winning a playoff game. Their chances of getting a new stadium are greatly enhanced by a Super Bowl appearance or win. I would say all of that is worth an extra $3M guaranteed and if he does everything to reach the extra $4M in incentives, it will all have been worth it to the owners. So he comes back for a few million more? Why does money matter so much to him if all he cares about is playing the game? I'd have more respect for him if he just came out and said that he hated training camp. I really don't understand why he can't admit it. Is it really that big of a deal?

  3. They're already starting to backtrack on it. This guy is a complete joke.
  4. One thing is for sure - I'm certainly not getting my hopes up this year based on four meaningless preseason games. I learned my lesson last year. Hoping for a 10-6 or an 11-5 mark this year. The tough schedule puts a little bit of a damper on things, but this team should be good. Really good, I hope. Can we start the season right now?
  5. Turco was one of the guys that many of us were clamoring for at the deadline. I'm excited to see how this goes.
  6. Thank God for rational people on here. I've had to deal with a lot of idiots today claiming how this move absolutely hurts the Hawks for next year. Stick Turco with our defense in front of him and I think his production is probably better than Niemi. I'm not afraid of saying that. Thanks for an outstanding playoff run, but Turco, at less than half of what Niemi is getting, is an outstanding value.
  7. Um, yeah. Hopefully he's ok.
  8. I'm fully expecting that it's going to be a conference announcing Niemi's departure and the addition of either Theodore or Turco.
  9. Not at all. I think there's more to the story than what is currently out there. That really sucks though. If you don't pull for Northwestern, you don't have a soul.
  10. Penn State playing a non-con game against a team that has made a bowl game in the last decade. Well, they DO play @Alabama this year, so..... But the 2012 non-con right now has Navy and @Virginia with one TBA (which will probably be a joke like Coastal Carolina). The Big Ten has some pretty decent non-con games this year, though: Illinois @ Missouri Purdue @ Notre Dame Michigan @ Notre Dame Ohio State vs. Miami (FL) Penn State @ Alabama Michigan St vs. Notre Dame Minnesota vs. Southern Cal Illinois travels to Fresno State too.
  11. That's exactly why you just sign him to a one year deal and then cut ties with him if he gets out of line.
  12. Red Wing fans absolutely despised Kopecky. He started out last season being pretty useless for us, but he was a pretty valuable piece during that solid run the entire 4th line had before the Olympic break. If I remember right, he was pretty good for Slovakia in the Olympics too. I'm sure they hate him even more because he was actually somewhat useful for us. He's Hossa's friend and was basically signed because of Hossa. I don't see him being traded at all.
  13. Exactly. The guy is going to be the 5th big man in the Bulls interior rotation. All you're really looking for in that role is some toughness and a guy who isn't going to be a liability out there for ten minutes a game. If the alternative is Chris Richard or Josh Boone or someone along those lines, I think the Bulls did just fine here. Yeah but he's also the 'holy crap omer asik kind of sucks' backup plan. Decent chance he is our backup center. Big downgrade from Noah. I wish one of our centers was a more traditional type scorer. But I guess since we have Boozer its a little more acceptable. Can Kurt Thomas hit a midrange jumper? What team actually has a good backup center? The Magic do. Other than that, I can't really think of a team that has one. Thomas has made a living out of hitting baseline shots and midrange jumpers.
  14. Not a fan of that. A 19 year old replacing Campbell? Why didn't we just do that in the first place if we were going to move Campbell?
  15. What about Joe Smith?
  16. I don't know why everybody is convinced that LeBron is going to Miami. He's not leaving Cleveland. Fixed for 3 weeks ago. Completely different situation. Melo isn't a free agent. And won't be until after a forthcoming lockout. He has no idea how much money he'll be able to get after that after whatever the new CBA says.... He has an extension offer on the table in Denver. He'll take the sure thing. Will he? I don't think any of us know that. It's not really safe to assume that the athlete will make the logical decision after what we've seen over the last couple of weeks. That's not even a slight at LeBron but more so a guy like Richard Jefferson, declining his $15 million player option, only to return to the same team at a far reduced rate. Plus, 'Melo has a New York state of mind!
  17. So they're basically making an example out of the Devils. I'm betting they'll just have to spread out the salary a bit more so it's not such a steep dropoff near the end. I don't think the Devils want at all to do that because it makes it that much harder to dump him when he's useless at an older age. Also for Kovalchuk, he will make less money as well as more of that money is in years that he doesn't plan on playing. That said, the more I think about it the Devils will find a way to keep him to save themselves the embarrassment of having a press conference to introduce a player that isn't going to be on the team. They're already in an embarrassing situation as it is.
  18. Someone said in the game thread on either Friday or Saturday that Ramirez was going to pass Lee in OPS in the middle of the upcoming week. Good call.
  19. So they're basically making an example out of the Devils.
  20. I like the Brewer deal too. I wish we were able to land Barnes so we'd have two real good defensive wing players, but I don't see that happening. We have enough money to still land two pretty decent players via free agency.
  21. Lambeau would be pretty cool, as would Soldier Field. I think Soldier Field makes more sense from a geographical point of view, but I think everyone knows that the field itself would be in pretty poor shape in early December. If Lucas Oil gets it (which I'm sure it will), the Big Ten should move the basketball tournament back to Chicago.
  22. I'd be interested in a few games.
