  1. That's a completely unfair statement in light of both the Nomar and ARam/Lofton deals. Read what Vance said in his last post. I meant that Hendry isn't creative enough to trade for 2 players he doesn't need and probably doesn't want. To be fair, not many people are. The Marlins are the only team that comes to mind that trades for players they don't intend on keeping (Piazza, Hampton). I really don't know why the Cubs were even suggested in a trade for Delgado and Lowell. I think what you mean is that Hendry does not trade for guys w/ an eye towards towards flipping them to someone else shortly thereafter. OK, I get it. That said, I think that's pretty nit-picky. I mean, if you want to criticize him for fixating on trading Sosa last year and getting little in return, that's fair. But, unlike the manager, JH has had done more good than bad in the last couple of years. So, you bolded the "to be fair, not many people are", but still ignored it? I don't think what I said was criticism originally. It wasn't meant that way.

  3. Canseco/McGwire with slightly less power.
  4. Yeah, Baltimore would definitely be interested, IMO. Like Vance said, the Cubs aren't creative enough to get involved. I think if Baltimore is willing to give up one of their good young pitchers (Penn or Ray), a good pos prospect and ML talent (Gibbons or Matos), they will make a deal.
  5. Congrats on the opportunity. Keep me posted on the Frontier Leaguers, so I can check them out. BTW, I know it's early, but I'd like to nominate Raisin and/or CP20 (if Kathie's out too). I have been in other leagues with them and they are good players. Plus, they're pretty friendly, knowledgeable and all that jazz.

  7. I think the Peanut gang actually DID beat IU last year. I'm just setting the tone for the first exciting basketball season in Bloomington in years. And since a b-ball player has been the football star so far this season, I figured I would start the trash talk.
  8. 1. Take your time. It's not a race. 2. Bring protection 3. Let your partner know that it's you first time Wait, what are we talking about again?
  9. I picked Macias....... only because I read the question as who would you like to GET HIT (by a pitch).
  10. I say re-sign Nomar and Walker first. A decision will likely need to be made on them before going anywhere else in the offseason. With Cedeno along with these 2, you have a lot of flexibility. Either of the 3 could be the starting 2B. Nomar or Ronny could be the SS. Nomar could be the starting LF. It still shouldn't prevent the Cubs from going after an OF or SS. If Furcal is the way they want to go, move Nomar to LF. If corner OF is where they want to go (and they want Murton to play), move Nomar to 2B or SS, Let Cedeno play the other and trade Walker or let Cedeno back both up. Nothing is lost from picking up Walker's option. Nothing is lost from giving Nomar a cheap incentive-laden contract. Worst case, you get amazing flexibility with talented players or you trade someone.
  11. Also, I would like to add. About 2 seconds after I posted that I thought Jacque Jones had turned it around (I believe he had a near .350 OBP at the time with 18 HRs), he's proceeded to become a 30-year old Corey Patterson by getting his OBP back down near his career level of .325 with a couple of horrible months. I change my mind back to my original opinion of never wanting Jacque Jones in the home clubhouse in Wrigley Field, ever!
  12. SS- Furcal 2B-Perez 1B-Lee RF-C Floyd 3B-Ramirez CF-P Wilson C-Barrett LF-Murton Book it!
  13. Hey, look! None of them are on my team!
  14. I'm not that high on Huff anymore after this season. Maybe a change of scenery would help, but not for the price he's been rumored to be going for. I hate all things Kenny Lofton. I'd rather put Hairston out there, hope he gets back to the .360ish OBP that he has shown in the past (04, and 1st half of 05) and then hope Felix is ready next summer. But I wouldn't be disappointed with that team. With Williams/Mitre gone, though, I would hope the Cubs would get a starter. That team could do well if Lofton keeps it up (not likely, career year at 38), Murton keeps it up, and Huff gets back to pre-05 numbers. But that would be just as many ???? as this season. That doesn't bode well. My best guess is that the Cubs will go after Preston Wilson, Cameron, or Pierre for CF. Then they will get either Floyd, Dellucci, or re-sign Burnitz for RF/LF. I think the rest of the money will be spent on Furcal.
  15. If they come within 15 points of USC, they might deserve it.
  16. We whupped your monkey asses! More to come in basketball. James Hardy is the best 2-sport athlete in college sports. Muck Fatt Trannon!
  17. Well, at least you weren't the only team to score more than me this time. Last year I would have the fortune of scoring 2nd highest point total of the week, only to be playing the league leader in points for that week.
  18. Man, good thing the pitching is strong for the Jaxx. Playing without Murton, Theriot, and Pie.
  19. Let him dominate Florida for a month and a half, then see what he can do in AA. I agree that he could probably pitch extremely well in AA. There's really no rush. He'll be there sometime next year regardless.
  20. Is he a free agent or are you talking about some kind of trade. Is the BOB a hitters or pitchers park? Gonzo has been better on the road the past few years. But he's also been slipping significantly and inconsistent in the health department. I wouldn't expect much more than a .270/.370/.460 kind of line from him next year, at the most. And that's with no idea how many games he can play. He's pretty much useless in the field as well. And like I said he better not be the big acquisition the Cubs get. I'm talking about a trade. I wouldn't give up much to get him, or pay much to have him (meaning he wouldn't be a Cub, which is fine with me). And the BOB is a hitter's park, IIRC. I would expect a line slightly below that for Gonzalez. I'd rate him similar to Cliff Floyd. Nice secondary OF acquisition. Health issues, useless on D.... but should give you a .360 OBP and some power.
  21. But would you take that for what he's likely to be played? Do you mean, is that enough from a LF? I think so. There's no single way to fillout a lineup card. As long as guys are productive you can find space. There are 2 corner OF spots, perhaps you get more of a slugger in RF if need be. I don't believe in the idea that certain positions have to provide a certain level of performance. I do believe that you have to pay a guy relative to his performance at his position. In other words, a really great SS should get a lot while a good but not great 1B shouldn't get top dollar. If Murton plateaud in the .290/.360/.440 range, he's usable, but I wouldn't pay him $10m when he becomes a free agent. I took it as him saying he won't be on the field enough due to a certain manager. And you having a signature is monumental.
  22. I'd take Gonzo if he came with a $6M or less price tag. It would also help if he came with Santos or Drew. Still, unless Quinton's also coming to Chicago (not likely unless the Cubs pick up some major salary), Gonzalez wouldn't be nearly enough.
  23. Agreed. I don't see why people have a problem with his power as it is. 4 HRs in 77 ABs, equals out to 26 in a 500 AB season. Even if you figure in his entire season's stats, he's still a 15-18 HR type. I'll take that if he's OBP is gonna put up a .370 ish OBP....which is his career mark before this season.
  24. Who's in CF? I'd probably use Hairston, Patterson, or another stop gap player like Lofton until Pie is ready to contribute. Stop bringing up Lofton! :x But I'd rather go with Cedeno at SS if Nomar moves to LF and get Giles to play CF. The OF defense would suck, but who cares? And I think you posted this in the wrong thread.
  25. Who's in CF? Where. Who's at 1st.
