  1. Prior and Hill for Tejada, Bedard, and Markakis. Bedard, Murton, and Gallagher for Zito. Would you do that? Prior, Hill, Murton, and Gallagher for Tejada, Zito, and Markakis? If I could sign Zito to an extension before making the deal. I like Zito, but I don't even know if I would want him re-signed. Long-term, he's a huge step down from Prior and could be just a notch above Bedard. I'd probably rather keep Bedard, Murton and Gallagher and go out and sign Weaver or Millwood.
  2. When the Cubs were handing out untouchable labels, he thought they said untuckable navels, and he didn't want an outtie.
  3. I agree with everything you said, except that line. Whether the Cubs pull a White Sox and win 100 games and take the World Series, it still doesn't make us wrong about the moves being bad. It makes the Cubs lucky. *note, I'm not saying in anyway that the Sox moves were bad or they were lucky.
  4. With all due respect, what makes you believe this? What makes you believe that Hendry is that creative? This is the same guy who let all the OF options go by last year because he hadn't traded Sosa. This is the same guy that was so hellbent on Furcal that when he lost out on his speedy leadoff hitter, he passed up the more productive Bradley and Wilkerson and had to have Pierre. There's no evidence to support that Hendry ever makes a deal to set up another deal.
  5. I would go after Zito, but just to move him to another team. I'd move Murton, Hill OR Williams, and a solid pitching prospect (probably not Guzman, Marshall or Marmol) for Zito if it meant spinning him off for Abreu.
  6. Last year the Cubs ranked 16th in the NL in OPS from CF. Florida was 15th. Wow. I didn't realize that Pierre was the only offensive output on the Marlins! Besides, it was a bad year last year, he is likely to rebound IMO. And also, his OPS isn't as important as his OBP. He needs to get on base. He has the speed to score from first. Anything extra just makes his job easier. Some of these new-fangled fans are dangerous. A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. They read a couple books about sabermetrics etc. and all of sudden everything boils down to someone's OPS. Pierre's OBP and ability to disrupt pitchers rhythms are his primary attributes. I don't care if the guy doesn't hit a home run all season. How does he disrupt pitchers? He had his worst year in a while in 05, while the guy hitting behind him Castillo had one of his best. If your theory is correct, wouldn't Castillo have better numbers when Pierre got on base more? It's actually been the opposite.
  7. Wale has the better numbers, but Alex Brown has had the more dominant season. Could argue for both of those guys. Also Peanut should have been considered. I'm just glad Harris made it. I thought he would be overlooked.
  8. With Tejada the offense gets a little better. It's still not a top one. You still have to rely on Pierre to get back to his pre-05 numbers. Murton and Cedeno have to play first of all, and secondly have to perform to the high end of expectations. Oh yeah, you still can't afford any injuries and Ramirez, Lee, and Barrett have to maintain their 05 numbers.
  9. Ok...I might could see trading Walker if it improves the team, but to put him behind Perez and JHJR for playing time is just stupid! You're not really surprised are you?
  10. They were #2 and #3 in ERA in an absolutely loaded league(Both made BA's top 20 for the Southern League as well, IIRC). Pinto and Nolasco are good prospects. You may think that they are worth Pierre, but let's not devalue them by calling them 'mediocre at best' or 'middle relievers'. Feel free to call them whatever you want. I wish to call them middle relief prospects. Why? Because neither has a "plus" pitch and nothing exceptional, good minor league pitchers but nothing special. From Baseball America.
  11. you're kidding, but if I could find his number, I'd do the time.
  12. And yet it was better than Corey Patterson's June. Or his July. Or his August. Or his September. What does have to do with anything?
  13. If Texas signs Millwood they COULD have a very solid top of the rotation with Millwood/Eaton/Padilla with Dominguez, Wilson, Benoit competing for the final two spots (with Diamond/Danks coming up fast), the Rangers could finally stumble into some good pitching. Or Millwood could be the next Chan Ho Park, complete down to the agent. Maybe they can sign Millwood, then facilite a 3-way deal by sending Eaton and Blalock to Philly, with David Bell, Gavin Floyd, Jerome Williams, Walker, and Pie going to Texas, and Abreu to the Cubs.
  14. I made a post around the deadline asking if Jones had turned the corner. He was hitting .274/.350/.480. Of course he had one of the worst months of August in the history of baseball, and a nearly as bad September. But if he can keep those April-July numbers up for 2-3 years, this could be a great deal for the Cubs. :bluekoolaid: :pig: :l33t:
  15. I think it's a good trade for both sides. Young isn't super talented, but he had a good year in Texas, which should be better in SD even if he pitches a little worse peripherally. Gonzalez and Sledge have the potential to put up league average production for miminum cost, though they will do so at corner IF and OF respectively.
  16. Sucks they had to give up Young, who had a solid rookie season. Added 1 to the rotation, but subtracted a decent young arm. Still a nice trade for Texas. Eaton was looking like an ace before he got hurt at midseason. Hope he doesnt' fall victim to Arlington.
  17. IU with 6 straight 3's on 6 straight possessions, by 4 different players. Then DJ White makes his return with a rebound put-back. It's on!
  18. One great game, one not so great one. I guess David Garrard doesn't own me. Good matchup in the finals with Me vs. Midway Monsters.
  19. so did i, except i jumped up. i can only imagine how many bears fans did likewise. oh man, and that first completion was golden. i wasn't at the game but i wouldn't have been surprised if the spaceship inside soldier field suddenly took off and flew back to wherever it came from at that point. I ran and hugged my girlfriend. She had no idea why. Then when I told her, she still didn't care. my wife, who used to know nothing about football, or care very much about it, came home from work last night and said: "did you see rex? he was awesome!" we talked about how excited we were for 15 minutes. maybe your girlfriend just needs a little more time.... She's a Steelers fan. So, she didn't care.

  21. What did we pay for the inferior Perez? $5 mil too much... Man that sucks. If Perez is $2M better than Freel, then I need to reevaluate my baseball knowledge.
  22. This defense in this weather shouldn't allow 2 TDs. Game should be over for the Falcons.
  23. I honestly don't think so. They got a shot now now if they could just get their RB back... Huh?
  24. You know Turner was dying to open up the playbook like this. Grossman is Tom Brady to Orton's Bledsoe.
  25. Very strange indeed.
