  1. Washington Gnationals. Then they could be called the Gnats.
  2. Yeah, that's not right. I'd still take the 1/2 run less per 9 innings, and 1/4 of the baserunners over the course of 40-50 fewer innings.
  3. Yep. 1 injury plagued season following missing a month of the previous season with a leg injury. He hasn't hit anything since coming back in 04. 3-18 in the regular season after the injury. Bad playoff showing. .235 in 05, before he went down.
  4. Is he 28-years old again too? No, but he's healthy (they say), and I don't expect .314/34/124 but .300/30/100 and a gold glove isn't out of the question. If you add that to last years team, that's on heck of a boost. I hear people can still be productive at age 31. Yeah, 31 year olds can still be productive. But 31 year olds with shoulder problems are less likely to do so at that high of a level.
  5. Is he 28-years old again too?
  6. I see Grossman as a poor man's Brees. If he stays healthy and gets a great weapon like Brees has in Gates, I would expect similar production.
  7. I didn't mean 3B. I put Wright in that group, because he's one of the players I would target. Plus, I think there is a dropoff after Wright due to inconsistency (Ensberg, Beltre) or injury probability (Ramirez, Rolen, Chipper).
  8. Biggio's still the best 2B in the division. Until someone else (Weeks) proves otherwise. I'd give Aramis a slight nod over Rolen. I'd probably give Ensberg the nod too, if he shows he can repeat 05.
  9. Murton for Soriano.....then Soriano for Manny Ramirez, or Soriano for Cliff Floyd, or Soriano for Ibanez
  10. I'd probably wait til 3rd round. If you can't get Santana, go after a guy like Tejada, Utley, Wright (an elite player at a tough to find position). Then go after a pitcher. Guys like Zambrano, Prior, Webb, Harden, Zito, etc should be on the board still.
  11. I wouldn't be too scared of that. He may suffer a dropoff playing for a team he doesn't want to be on, but I still think he gets traded mid season and gives you a huge 2nd half.
  12. Gotta keep Grissom around to have an all French OF. Marquis, Pierre, Jacque How many teams have 3 black OFs with French names?
  13. Try to find projections and mock drafts online. Just basically get a general idea, then rank yourself based on that, plus your hunches. Vlad has been on the DL each of the last 2 years, that's why I pick Tex over him. If players are close in rankings, I go: 1. need/position scarcity 2. injury history 3. team around them 4. age/upside 5. 2nd half stats from previous year
  14. Yeah, I don't see Guzman striking out a hitter/inning as he has in the minors. I see him closer to 7K/9 IP, with a GB/FB of about 1.5-.1.7.
  15. He won't consistently hit 97 as a starter. He'll be mostly 91-93. As a reliever though, he should be able to hit the high 90s fairly often. I think he'll ultimately be a reliever unless he can really refine his changeup.
  16. $15M/year? Uh, I would wait until he shows he can do it again in 06. I'm sorry, but no way is Lee worth that right now.
  17. That's why I always look at his GB/FB ratio. It was 1.64 during the regular season in 05, and I believe it was pretty good in the AFL (though, I lost the exact numbers). When he was healthy, he was consistently getting twice as many GBs as flyouts. He's very similar to Zambrano in that the harder he throws (4-seamer) the more hittable he is, as the ball tends to straighten out.

I don't think that would've worked. Players want to play in an established league and on the biggest stage. Of course, everyone has their price. I just think the price would have been very high. It worked for the USFL. They got Herschel Walker, Sam Mills, Jim Kelly, Anthony Carter. I know it worked before, but this is a different era. The NFL is the worlds biggest stage for football. Like I said earlier though, everyone has their price. So it is possible that the XFL could've lured a few big names to play for them, but I still don't think it would've been enough to sustain the league. Also the timing of the season was horrible. It was at the end of the regular football season, and most people were burnt-out on football. Yeah, it should have been mid-summer. I think it could be done, especially by someone like Vince McMahon who seems to be more interested in being hated than anything else. He could have thrown a ton of money at players. Heck, he could have had a pretty good league with guys who had problems holding them back from the NFL (Clarett, McPherson, Marcus Vick).
  19. according to reports out of Arizona. Courtesy of CBS sportsline. Carlos Marmol, SP CHC News: Cubs right-hander Carlos Marmol reportedly was throwing 97 mph in winter ball. Analysis: Marmol won't be a candidate to make the team out of spring, but he could help midseason as a reliever. His value will be limited to deeper NL-only Rotisserie leagues when he gets the call.
  20. New board policy. Everyone must have Zambrano in their signature.

  22. Wow. Even more angering that the Cubs can't produce a legit offensive prospect. 36 of the 50 are offensive prospects. And about 1/2 the pitching prospects pitched in the majors last year and barely qualify, including the top 2 (Liriano and Cain).
  23. I would take Teixeira over Vlad. Pick him, if he's there.
  24. Zambrano is bigger to Chicago than Jordan could have ever dreamed of. MLB should change the logo to Carlos.
  25. Yep, and they haven't learned, so he's slated to hit 2nd also.
