  1. We have experienced some great wins as fans on this board. IU vs. Duke in 2001. Illinois vs. Arizona last year. UCLA v. Gonzaga this year. Now if we can combine that and do that for our baseball team.
  2. Yeah, that's really his major defensive flaw to me. He's not quick on the turn and doesn't have a real strong arm to gun it over there quickly enough. Easily bottom 1/3 turning the DP.
  3. Grace is a moron. First off, he exaggerated Sammy's weight. He probably went from 185 to 225-230. Secondly, that can happen naturally, it usually happens at a much younger age, but it definitely happens all the time. Thirdly, again no proof. Everyone else linked to the HR steroid era has had someone come out and say they witnessed the person using or know for a fact that the person has had possession of steroids.
  4. Is there a stat that has swings and misses? It seems like ARam's P/PA is effected by the fact that he doesn't swing and miss that much. He also may be really good at hitting his pitch when he sees it. Last year it really helped having DLee on base in front of him alot, he probably saw better pitches early in the count? Aramis has always been a first fastball type of hitter. If he gets a heater early, he's looking to hit it hard. I think he is a patient hitter, that just doesn't walk. He looks for pitches to hit. He doesn't K much, so it's not like he's chasing bad pitches. He has a good grasp of the strike zone and recognizes which pitches he can hit. Or just listen to USSoccer
  5. UCLA vs. Memphis isn't gonna be bad either. A lot better than the matchups will be on the other half that plays tonight.
  6. BTW, the Elite 8 games in this half of the bracket will be excellent. LSU/Texas and UCLA/Memphis are both battles between comparable teams.
  7. I went to sleep. I missed my favorite team on Earth WVU lose. I had them in the Final 4 in my other group, have Texas in this one. Oh well, I'll just win this one instead of that one.
  8. Just to add to this thread. 1. Keep Von Joshua with the kids. Change their approaches before they get to the majors. Once their up, they aren't changing. 2. I think Hendry and the Cubs value OBP at least a little. I just think they value guys who can hit their way on base over guys who walk to get on base. Extreme example, but I think they would take guy that hits .300 and gets on base at a .340 clip, than a guy that hits .260 and gets on at a .360 clip. Guys like Ramirez, Pierre, and Nomar have put up respectable OBPs, but their numbers have been based on the ability to hit .300.
  9. Duly noted. In fact, last year 1 & 2 accounted for 24.5% of the PA's 24.5% of th PA's and 24.6% of the runs scored. Sorry but with Ramirez and Lee behind them the 1-2 spots should be doing more than average in the run scoring department. What if your 3-4 hitters just did 23% of the RBI in 23% of the PA's? We'd be screaming, that's what! That's all quite true, but it really doesn't address the original point. It was obviously an exaggeration. But the original point was that the top of the Cubs order sucked last year.
  10. Just like last year, Cubs only scoring when Lee and Ramirez knock each other in.
  11. I hate a sac bunt after a walk. Make sure the guy can throw a strike. Make sure if he does throw a strike, it's not a fat pitch he's just trying to get over because he walked the last man. Glad it wasn't our cubbies doing that.
  12. ARAM's turn for the career year ala Lee in 05. Lee and Ramirez could be the best 3-4 in the NL this season.
  13. I like that they aren't just gonna dump Wellemeyer, but man, at least trade him for a minor leaguer. If Wellemeyer and Ryu are in the bullpen, they will probably pitch no more than once each before the injured pitchers start to come back. I can only assume if both are in the pen, that means 12 pitchers, at least after the 15th.
  14. Aramis is gonna have a huge year. There's really no reason he can't better his 04 numbers.
  15. Moss is more talented. T.O. is the better player.
  16. It won't be Few, Calipari, or Majerus. Glad it's not gonna be Alford.
  17. That's a mouthful for someone passing on this thread.
  18. Because Dusty would have the sense to not bat Neifi near the top of the lineup for any period of time? The guy had 390 plate appearances at the 1-2 spot last year, 274 of them hitting second(exact same number as Todd Walker). If you don't think Dusty is going to do that again, that's fine. But labelling people as paranoid because Dusty has done it before and is doing it again(albeit in spring training) is unnecessary and ultimatlely wrong. I'm just pointing out that it may be a little premature to get on Dusty based on one spring training lineup. Especially one in which half of the lineup was backups. I have no doubt that Dusty will make stupid lineups this year. But to jump on one/two spring training lineups is a little neurotic. Especially since the majority of ST neifi has been batting at the bottom of the order. I agree. Jacque Jones isn't gonna bat 3rd or 4th. Mabry isn't gonna hit 5th. He has a history of batting Neifi near the top, but he's said he isn't gonna do that when the season starts. Bruce said he isn't gonna do it. It's not that serious in games that don't count.
  19. According to the Baseball Cube, Ryu turns 23 in May. You're right. My math is not. I saw he was born in 83, and said 21. It's 2006 right?
  20. Marshall is the 2nd youngest (can you believe Ryu's still just 21 years old!), but has by far the least amount of experience. Guzman's been around about 6 years in the system. Hill went to U of Michigan. And Ryu has been around since he was 17. He hasn't been 100% healthy, so the Cubs are probably still very cautious with him. He hasn't been on the 40-man as long as Guzman and Hill, so the Cubs have him under their control for longer without having to put him on the 25-man. He hasn't used any options unlike Hill.
  21. I wouldn't. Cordero's a great closer, but far from a need right now. The Cubs would be getting ripped off, simply because Soriano isn't that much better than Walker (if at all), and will likely walk after this year. So, it's Pie and Hill for a closer....that's not a good deal.
  22. Nope. No interest in Clement at that price.
  23. You have low expectations. The Cubs have had one of the top 3 payrolls in the NL the entire time Dusty has been in Chicago. Back-to-back winning seasons means very little. Especially, when one of those seasons featured a playoff collapse (not Dusty's fault), followed by a season with a complete collapse the last 2 weeks, followed by a sub-.500 season. Dusty has a reputation for not using young position players....and the only young players have been driven out of town (Patterson, Hill, Choi albeit justifiably). He has a reputation for abusing pitchers.....and Prior and Wood have suffered problems from apparant overuse.
  24. Tampa probably asked for Laroche and Broxton too.
