  1. UConn getting hacked inside. Rudy Gay is really good. George Mason can't be stopped on the offensive end.
  2. Jones is one of the best April hitters on Earth for some odd reason. I think once the typical May struggles start, you'll see Dusty try Murton and Barrett in the 5-hole. I've come to grips with Hairston starting. And hope he can perform at a high level. Walker will still get plenty of time. He becomes the first bat off the bench, which is better than Mabry or Perez. And I expect him to get plenty of starts at 2B if he's around.
  3. Prior has the most trade value of the group. He's still young, he's cheaper than Zambrano, and he's not close to FA like Wood. I would probably look to trade Williams and Hill. Williams is just as good as Bronson Arroyo, and he got the Sox Wily Mo Pena. Zambrano isn't going anywhere in any scenario. I would keep Prior for the foreseeable future. Won't get full value for Wood, who's been inconsistently healthy and is in his FA year. He has far more value to the Cubs than he would get in a trade. I'd keep Miller just based on his upside and low-risk of keeping him. Then you have Greg Maddux. With Maddux and possibly Wood leaving, you have spots for Guzman and Marshall if needed. Plus, you still have some arms that will be pretty close to the majors in 07. Rusch doesn't have much trade value, and the Cubs might as well keep him around for insurance.
  4. If he could just wing it in LF, he would be an awesome pickup. He hit .286, with 15 HRs and a .662 SLG after he came back from the minors this past season. The power numbers were 2nd to David Ortiz in that span. Near .850 OPS against RHPs last year. I would love for the Cubs to get him for the bench, but it won't happen with his ability to only play 1b. His best fit seems to be as the LH platoon at DH for an AL Team.
  5. Hairston also started with the starting IF. I think that was more a hint of who will be the opening day 2B. Of course, Lee didn't play either game.
  6. I say let these guys start a couple times in the minors (if possible), and go with the hot hand. Especially, since this seems to be a 2-3 start audition with Wood and/or Prior possibly coming back at the end of April/beginning of May.
  7. A- David Ortiz B- Adam Dunn, Mark Teixeira C- Lance Berkman, Carlos Beltran, Jason Bay D- Adrian Beltre, Matt Holliday, Brad Wilkerson, Justin Morneau Bonus- Bobby Crosby
  8. Hey if he's realized that and has got his head on straight, then I don't see that as a negative but a postive. Is ~5-10 less HR from Jones REALLY that important of a factor? If he gets it together this year and improves his average and OBP. I'll take a dozen triples to left over 12 HR swinging strikeouts. FYI, Jones has typically shown more power on the road than in the HomerDome. 38 road HRs last 3 years vs. 25 in Minny, and about 40 points higher SLG on the road. I think Wrigley's a great place for LHs. When the wind blows in, you can still get one out down the RF line.
  9. There won't be that many of those times. They are probably the top 2 pitchers in terms of control in the entire system, at least as far as legit prospects go. I imagine both missing so much time to injury and the pressure of going against ML players fighting for a major league job has a lot to do with spotty control at times this spring and last season.
  10. Wasn't Bynum once a top 100 prospect? I thought Oakland had high hopes for him a couple years ago. Could be wrong. And don't want him now.
  11. If LSU, UCLA, UConn, and Florida win my Final Four stays intact. Not gonna happen. LSU and UConn. Memphis and Villanova. I will win the Yahoo league.
  12. Interesting notes on the lineups. Pie in RF with Pagan in CF? I could see it with Pierre playing, but it makes me wonder about the Cubs future plans. Will Felix play a lot of RF in the minors this season? If Pie and Pagan are both in Iowa, will they continue in RF and CF respectively? Also, Dopirak will probably never hit 9th again. Murton hitting 2nd in 1 game, Perez in the other. Seems like the best and worst case scenarios for the regular season all in 1 day.
  13. Jones isn't exactly weak. He's averaging 22 HRs a season. I'm encouraged by Jones' spring and the fact that he had a huge jump in patience to .087 BB/PA last year. He's a strange hitter in the fact that he's at .279 for his career, but has been 30-35 points under that the last 2 year after being 30-35 points over the previous 2 years. If he can hit for his career average, while maintaining his walk rate, you're looking at a .279/.350/.480 type player. Not great, but it would probably put the Cubs in the top 1/3 of the NL offensively, instead of middle of the pack. I think Pierre will be better in a contract year, but I don't see him going back to a .370 OBP guy. I'm hoping for .350 out of him. If Hairston/Walker can give the Cubs a reasonable .340ish out of 2B, and Murton can continue to do what he has shown he can do, the Cubs will be alright, regardless of what Cedeno does offensively.
  14. Unnecessary bait. Unnecessary pile on. With all due respect guys, this is complete BS. You guys are two of the main culprits that complain about people bashing the moves the Cubs front office and management has or has not made. But this is a prime example of how it usually works. You are the ones who start arguments. There was no need to bring Giles into the post. The only reason I can see for bringing him up is to start an argument. I can guarantee you anyone that wanted Giles signed this offseason WOULD NOT have brought it up, because it had absolutely no relevance in the gist of this thread which is to project how the Cubs would do in 2006. And for the record, baiting people into arguments with inflammatory comments is not be allowed on this board.
  15. I don't know what happened in the 2nd half. I missed the first half, because the other game was on here. Roy was getting molested. And I have no idea how you can miss goaltending calls. Washington did get screwed. Romar is a helluva coach. Roy is gonna be a good NBA player.
  16. I hope people don't say Gonzaga can't go deep in the tourney because of last night's loss. I think they can beat anyone in the country if they had the chance. They have (had) as much talent as most of the country, they have great coaching (for the next week til Few comes East to Bloomington).
  17. vomit. baseball is not a major college sport. It should be. Get rid of those noisy bats and college baseball is great.
  18. Aldridge is the best player in college basketball. I know Morrison and Redick will be co-POTY. But Aldridge is an excellent player. I thought this tourney would be his coming out party, but he hasn't even gotten the press he's deserved. Texas has a legit shot to get the sweep and hold all 3 major sports titles in college basketball.
  19. That's a lot of talent at Daytona. Possibly Gallagher, Downs, Hagerty, Billek, Holliman, Estrada, Weber, and Johnson all there. My guess is Downs back in Peoria. Gallagher to AA. Hagerty not ready to start the season.
  20. I wouldn't say I'm giving Hendry props, but I'm not gonna say he has no clue and doesn't value it. The guys Hendry has acquired for this team (outside of Lee) are all pretty similar. Nomar, ARam, Walker, Murton, Alou, Barrett, even Jones to some extent. None of those guys are .100 BB/PA guys. All are/were respectable at around .060-.080. All have shown the ability to hit for a high average (over .300), meaning if/when they do so they will have OBPs in the .350 range. I do think he values tools first and foremost, but he doesn't go after guys who can't hit (again Jones could at one time). I'd say he doesn't value guys that don't walk at all (Neifi not a starter) or walk and don't hit at all (Bellhorn).
  21. Sosa was getting bigger every season. He was a lot bigger in 1994 than he was in 1990. Granted, he took a huge jump around 96-97, but when he started to become a legit baseball player was 1994. He was already gaining muscle every year.
  22. saw the woman on Wednesday. I go to catch the elevator downstairs after work and she's on her way down from the 4th. She sees me waiting on the elevator and she literally runs behind the other woman on the elevator. I never even moved. I just let them close the door and wait for the next one. My other idea was to stand in her personal space and just stare at her.
  23. you have to wonder how much UCLA has left in the tank after that game. I actually felt sorry for Morrison - boy does he push off a lot though. I don't think UCLA will beat Memphis. I figured they would have tough matchup (with IU actually). They played an exhausting game, and played late. It's not gonna be easy to get up for a great Memphis team, despite the location.
  24. First, more than half the time you are on the field is defense. You field for 3 outs 9 times a game. You come to bat 3-4 times per game. Secondly, for the simple fact that a player has so few ABs per game, and the team as a whole has so few ABs in order to score a run (only 3 outs per inning), offense is more important than defense.
  25. I don't know how you can interpret numbers in anyway to show that Ramirez was even close to Derrek Lee last year. Lee has been better in their careers. Ramirez has more talent and upside being that he's a few years younger. For the record, I expect both to post an OPS over .950 this year. Who's most productive remains to be seen.
