  1. You can change your player every day. Cle v. CWS is the only game on Sunday. Pick Jason Michaels to start the season. 2-7 with 2 HRs vs. Buehrle. If not Michaels, Aaron Boone hits him well. But overall, LHs are better vs. Buehrle. Nobody in the Sox likely lineup has ever hit Sabathia well, except Dye.
  2. Pie just doesn't have enough power for a corner spot, especially with Murton occupying the other corner. In my opinion, you should get about 2400 OPS points from your outfield, and with Pierre probably being around .700 and Murton hovering around .800, Pie just isn't going to cut it. Pie's strengths are great range in CF and good speed -- if he reaches his full potential, putting him in right field is like having Jessica Alba, but forcing her to wear sweatpants and a flannel shirt all the time. LOL. Pie has more upside than either of them though, so the wisest decision would be to get rid of one of them. Assuming the Pierre re-signing (as we have hypothetically done in this thread), then I would trade Murton before I trade Pie. If he's gonna be hovering around .800 when Pie is playing everday...then he doesn't need to be on the team.
  3. Chris Young did well for me. I traded him for Oswalt, who I traded for Berkman. Not a bad haul from a waiver wire pickup.
  4. That list is long, but distinguished... (some one finsh it! Its a Kevin Foster fastball over the middle! ) It'd be even longer if I knew we were signing Pierre to an extension. Why can't Felix play RF? He showed enough XB power last year and this spring to show that he could be a pretty good corner OF if he puts it all together. But I'll take any of those first 10 guys too, after that I don't.
  5. No, it doesn't. Gotta make good trades for solid keepers.
  6. If he can stick at catcher, he could be a factor. Switch hitting catchers with power are valuable in the major leagues. But as you said, it looks pretty late and unlikely right now.
  7. It's already been determined, UCLA will win the championship. Pittsburgh Steelers started the year off with great franchises winning the big one after an absence. UCLA will do the same, then the Yankees.
  8. I was thinking more along the lines of "I have three straws in my hand. Each of you will draw one..." I bet Dusty wishes they had a 3 sided coin. :D What was the thing on South Park years ago with John Smith from The Cure? : "I'll rochambeau you for it!" I was expecting more along the lines of http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3867/801/400/dusty_dice.jpg With Neifi getting 10 sides, and Hairston/Walker getting 2. I know that picture has been around for ages, but I think that's one of the funniest things ever to appear on this board.
  9. I read that too...GREAT... hey, how fast is Marshalls fastball? what are his pitches? I hoenstly know little about the kid Mostly throws a fastball 88-89, but can hit 92-93 if he needs to. Excellent curve. Throws a sweeper and a slow breaking curve. Change-up is a work in progress.
  10. Yeah, Hoffpauir is an excellent defensive 1B. He's a poor man's Doug Mientkiewicz, which wouldn't be a bad thing, except that Doug is a poor man's backup 1B offensively.
  11. The ranking may not look good, but the Cubs look like they will get contributions from Murton and Cedeno this year in the field. Marshall has come out of nowhere to win the 4th starter's job. Ryu, Hill, and Guzman could all contribute. Guys like Dopirak and Sing had great spring trainings. And that doesn't even include guys like Pie, Patterson, Gallagher, Veal and Pawelek who have a ton of talent. I do think the ranking is about right. The Cubs have some depth as far as player who should be regular major leaguers, but only 2 with borderline star futures. I don't think they were underrated before. Prior, Zambrano, Patterson, Cruz, and Choi were all blue-chippers. Arizona is #1 because they have about 5 potential superstars. LAD is #2 because they have amazing depth. Their depth is more talented than a team like Florida or Atlanta. I tend to like the Angels system more though.
  12. I wouldn't do it. I don't have a good feeling about Kendrick. I think Pie has the higher upside, and I think OF is a bigger need right now for the Cubs, being that they will be a bottom 5 OF for the 2nd year in a row. As for the productive CF vs. productive 2B argument. Productive 2B- M. Giles, Utley, Soriano, Kent, Roberts. Possibly add Biggio, Cantu and Figgins (who played 2 more positions more often than 2B). Productive CF- Griffey, Sizemore, Wells, A Jones, Damon, Beltran, Edmonds. Possibly add Figgins (most played position), Crisp, Winn, Wilkerson, Rowand.
  13. 1 year keeper league, 14 teams C- Willingham 1B- Kotchman 2B- Figgins SS- Lugo 3B- C Tracy LF- J Gomes CF- Beltran RF- Abreu U- Hafner SP- Capuano SP- Duke SP- E. Santana SP- D Willis SP- J Westbrook RP- Guardado RP- Ray RP- Reitsma Bench- Prior-SP, E. Encarnacion-3B, Ja Valentin-C 5th year of keeper league- 16 teams C- Doumit 1b- Berkman 2B- Kinsler SS- K Greene/ Cedeno 3B- Beltre OF- Vlad OF- Sizemore OF- Holliday OF- W Pena/ J Guillen/ DeJesus U- Mora SP- J Santana SP- D Lowe SP- Garland SP- Lowry SP- D Bush/ Davies RP- Jenks RP- Reitsma I really like the first team, when Prior is healthy. I don't value bullpen that much. The 2nd team I'm counting on a lot of things. I feel good having the #1 SP and a great OF. My IF is pretty weak, but Berkman has the potential to be a top 10 player in this league (as he was from 03-04) and Beltre was a top 10 player in 04. Greene and Kinsler have all kinds of talent. The key to this team is getting guys to bounce back (Beltre, Lowe, Guillen, DeJesus, Greene).
  14. Griffey and Felix.
  15. I wouldn't object to flipping Murton and Jones. Or Murton and Walker, then Jones and Walker. I'd like to see Murton hit 2nd or 5th in this lineup. Gotta pick your battles. If this is the opening day lineup we use I'm happy. At least it has all the right players in it. Agreed. I'm not complaining about it. And I don't think it makes a big difference either way. And I do like the LH hitting 2nd with Pierre on 1B.
  16. If the Cubs manage to go 7-7 during that stretch I will be ecstatic. My worry is that the clock has struck 12 for Glendon "[expletive]" Rusch. That's 8 games against horrible teams, I'd be disappointed with a .500 record. In which three are pitched by Rusch. Cincinnatii can hit the balll and Z doesn't go against them the second time around. I am hoping Maddux's spring numbers are indicative of a rebound but the margin of error is slim. crap. I refuse to go to the Sunday game here in Pitt then. I'm gonna go Friday/Saturday instead of Sat/Sun.
  17. Wow. ML debut on national TV in the only game going on at the time. I like starting him at home though.
  18. What is QS going to tell you? A 6 IP 3 ER game is hardly worth noting, and nothing close to a 9 IP 1 ER game, even though they are ranked the same. You could do that 35 times, and win a lot of games with a good bullpen.....but still have a 4.50 ERA. A 4.50 ERA is barely average.
  19. I wouldn't object to flipping Murton and Jones. Or Murton and Walker, then Jones and Walker. I'd like to see Murton hit 2nd or 5th in this lineup.
  20. No. I wouldn't put him that far just yet. He had a worse K rate than Dopirak last season, and he was repeating high A (maybe twice).
  21. I was one of the people who thought the Brewers would be decent last year, now that everyone is piled on the bandwagon, I don't think they're ready yet. Weeks and Fielder will experience growing pains. They are bad defensively. Hardy won't be as good as his 2nd half numbers, but not as bad as his first half. Lee's a great RBI man, but doesn't get on base like a 3-4 hitter should. Jenkins had a great 2nd half too, but won't hit as well in 06. I think they are seriously in danger of seeing decreased production across the board offensively with the exception of 2B and possibly SS. If Ben Sheets can't start 30 times for them, they are in bad shape.
  22. Ducks aren't a stat....yet. I'd say WHIP, ERA+, k/9 and BAA are good ones. The best is probably ERA+ Co-sign. I agree 100%. I like K/9 to show how dominant a pitcher can be.
  23. Wow. Bacon's gone.
  24. Why is Neifi still being mentioned? He hasn't played much 2B this spring. There's no way he could be even close to winning the job.
