Fredi Gonzalez resume: Baseball America Minor League manager of the year, 3 times (in 9 years)in 3 different leagues. 1993, 1994, 1997. In 1992, he became the 1st ever Marlins minor league manager, leading his team to runner up in the league. So, it wasn't like he was coaching the great Braves prospects of the 90s. He gets points from me for being one of the initial player developers for the Marlins. He gets points because he has been a part of the most successful player development organization in recent history. He gets points for being a winner everywhere he has been, as a head or assistant coach.

I'm late. But I'm very encouraged by the Bears this game. -Grossman is too hyped up to start games. I think because he's been hurt, he's trying to prove he can be a star QB. He's overdoing it, big time! There are times (last drive before the pick) where he looks excellent. But he tends to come out of games too strong, and tends to try too hard for the big play. -I thought the #1 D played well. Chris Harris didn't wrap up on their only big plays, but he played well otherwise. The LBs were great as usual. Wale Ogunleye had a nice showing. I think he's due for a big season with Tommie Harris getting more attention this year. I'm loving the DB depth. Harris isn't Mike Brown, but filled in nicely. D. Manning looks good. R. Manning had a solid game. -Rashied Davis was impressive. He looks to be capable of being a solid #4, with some decent upside. Very raw still at WR.

Ok, I'm gonna say it. Restovich is a 4A player. There has been a lot of clamoring for him to be on the ML team, basically, because he's a better option that Mabry, Nevin, and Bynum. And you can argue Pagan, but I wouldn't even give him that edge. Restovich is 27. Has career numbers of .254, .333, .408 in the majors. To me, expecting him to do anything in the majors is akin to expecting Julio Zuleta and Rosey Brown to be everyday starters a few years back.

To be fair, remember ione game was 18 innings. It is 6 BB/9 IP That's the funny thing also-we only gave up 6 walks in those 18 innings, and gave up 24 in the other 27 innings. That's awesome! Perhaps the ugliest stat I have ever seen for a team on a win streak.

I think this should be the last round, then everybody can pick up players off waivers to complete their roster.

For the record, a .344 OBP out of your cleanup hitter (Aramis) is not good. It's probably somewhere between "good" and "bad". Typically, I'd like to see upwards of .360 from the cleanup spot. .315 OBP out of your #5 hitter is somewhere between "bad" and "ugly", I'd like to see that .344 hitting there. In a realistically perfect world, the Cubs would replace Pierre with someone that can fit in the good column at the top of the order. Then replace Jones, Cedeno, or Izturis with a middle of the order bat that can fit into the "good" group. I think Aramis improves with Lee and better protection from said "good" middle of the order hitter.

Strange that the top 5 walk teams aren't all that great. Philly hasn't been good recently. This is the first year the Reds have been above 5th place in the NLC. The Padres are a consistent .500 hovering team. Only the Cards and Astros have had multiple playoff appearances over that span, and Houston hasn't had any teams that had much of a shot.

Only a matter of time til Cutler beats out the horrible, Jake Plummer. 34-11 in 3 years with a 90% Passer Rating sure is horrible huh. What does a 90% passer rating mean? I've honestly heard of or seen that stat before. 34-11 just means he's had good teams. Kyle Orton was what? 11-3?

Maybe a token callup, but he won't get much playing time. If Iowa makes the playoffs, he won't come up til mid-September anyway. And I don't see Dusty sitting Pierre or Jones much. I'd say a bunch of pinch running and maybe 2-3 starts the final week of the season.

I don't understand how Pie has been rushed. He's made stops at every single level in the minors. Only skipping short-season A-ball, after putting up a .950+ OPS in rookie league. He was solid in low A, not great, but justified his promotion by having a better year in high A. He was logically promoted to AA, where he was excellent, albeit in a half season. You can possibly take exception to him not going back to AA, but he had a great start in AAA, again justifying promotion. He struggled for a while, now is turning it back on again. Comparably, Corey Patterson never played rookie or short-season. Never played in high A. Made his ML debut after barely 2 seasons in the minors. And was yo-yoed back and forth from the majors in his 3rd pro season. I have no problem with the way the Cubs have handled Felix. Just because he's 21 and at AAA doesn't mean he's being rushed.

I agree for the most part. Rex has an absolute cannon. Not Farve or Vick strong, but he can sling it as hard and far as anyone else. I still think Grossman can develop into a slightly above average QB. I think he can lead a team to a SuperBowl. Remember, he's probably the most raw of all the starting QBs in this league. His time at Florida was wasted in a spread offense, that did nothing to get him ready for the NFL. And obviously, he hasn't been on the field enough to progress yet. He reminds me of Jeff Garcia. He wasn't a great QB, but had a couple of really good seasons, I think Rex can be that type of QB.

Do you make me a trade offer? actually, people have until sunday to make a claim. your options will be, release him, trade him to tadow, or retract the waiver Yeah, but can we work out a trade? Do I have to trade for one of his guys that clears waivers or can I trade for minor leaguers?

I started the year with Vlad, Berkman, Sizemore and Holliday in my OF......but was below .500 at the deadline and the first 2.

BTW, if we are basing next year's OF on someone's fantasy team it should be mine. I have Sizemore, Holliday, and Crawford.

Quinlan would be a nice RH bat off the bench. I believe he can play 3B in a pinch, but he would be a decent option at the corner OF and 1B. I, of course, like Craig Wilson too. But I still don't want him being the Cubs best OF. If you are moving Jones to CF, with Wilson in RF and go out and get a difference maker in LF, then I'd be all for Wilson. But the scenario I see the Cubs getting Wilson involves him playing LF over Murton, which is likely not worth the money you would spend on Wilson over Murton.
