  1. If it's a PPR league, Jones-Drew or Forte might be better picks than AD. If it's not, you still have a 50/50 chance that Michael Turner falls to you. If not, MoJoDrew is a great pick still, or even, LT.
  2. yeah, you're probably right about him meaning no negative news. that does make sense. And I agree, I don't see how the Bears can be sleepers for the playoffs when they were a win away last year and got better on paper. Sleepers for the SB, yes.
  3. In what way has the Bears offseason been low-key? He even mentions Cutler signing, the Cutler/Urlacher reported feud, Cutler/Hester issues, and Tommie Harris' injury status. Didn't even mention the Plaxico rumors, Pace signing, Tinoisamoa signing, WR issues. Hell, even the Favre thing directly affected the Bears offseason. What other team traded for a franchise QB and then had the media stir up stories about their QBs manhood, fighting with the team's other best players, and possible courting of troublemakers like Marshall and Plaxico? I think the only team that has had more attention this offseason has been the Broncos between Cutler, Marshall, and McDaniels and that could go either way.
  4. I think best case scenario is the Cards win the division, Cubs take the wildcard, and the Dodgers keep the best record in the NL. The Cubs can't beat the Phillies in any series, and the best case scenario is Cubs get LA (who despite last year I think they can beat) and I think the Cards could beat Philly. Cards take the division, because I have more faith in the Cubs beating STL than I do Philly or SF or really even Colorado in the NLCS. Oh and if Tonya Harding is orchastrating another kneecapper, I'd rather she go after Wainwright and Carpenter than Pujols and Holliday.

    Week 20

OK, so I pretty much need to win out to get in. Doesn't look like Manginos are beating the Rays, which means I can't catch them. So for me to make the playoffs, I have to win out and have GHS and NCCubs lose out. If not, I can still get in by winning out and having GHS and NCCubs lose 2 of 3 or by going 2-1 and having GHS and NCCubs both lose all 3. In either scenario, I would need to outscore NCCubs by 140 and GHS by 216. Hopefully, I can make up a ton of the points by beating NCCubs badly this week. GHS and I are running neck and neck in points this week so I need to blow up or have his guys throw up some 9 ERs in 1.1 IP to narrow the gap. If I make it in, all of a sudden, I'm a dangerous team with Peavy coming back to team with Wainwright to give me a solid rotation.
  6. Yes. He has some legal stuff going on. He's at best a 1-year solution. He would be taking time away from someone that could actually develop as a long-time future target of Cutler like Bennett, Rideau, Iglesias, Knox, or Aromashodu. Also, that would mean one of these guys would NOT make the team, along w/ Davis....and that's if the Bears keep the max 6 WRs.
  7. I think Vasher stays. With your starting CBs not even on the practice field, Vasher at least gives you a guy that has started in his career. If Tillman and Bowman go down in the regular season, with no Vasher, you're looking at Graham and McBride starting with DJ Moore as the 3rd CB and Danieal Manning as the 4th. McBride hasn't been any better, so I think given the choice (which the Bears will have) they'd keep Vasher and his experience and not take the cap hit and get a similar player with a chance of being good again. As for Graham, he pretty much is the 3rd CB at this point. He's been getting some #1 D reps. He's in contention to be the nickel. I would bet if the starting CBs are healthy come game 1, Graham will see more PT than Vasher in the backup role. I think Bowman has earned a spot over Graham because he has practiced well. He's a lot bigger and matches up better on the outside. I don't think the move is because he's so much better than Graham, moreso that he fits better. Kinda like the Omiyale/Beekman situation.

    Week 20

Everytime I'm eliminated by the trade deadline, my team gets hot. I got a huge lead over NCCubs now. I could get back in this thing (or not).
  9. Peterson Turner Jones Drew Forte LT If you go PPR, I'd go Peterson (he doesn't catch the ball much, but he's a 2000 yard, 20 TD season waiting to happen) Jones-Drew Forte Fitzgerald Turner
  10. Some of the names in my baseball league: Crack Dealers -- that's me (deal cracks of the bat) Playing w/ my Nuttings (Pirates fan, ownership joke) Pounding the Strikezone 2 Guys, 1 A-Rod Zac and Chris Make a Baseball Team FU Jobu In my football league: Anal Tongue Darts The best I've used for football was probably: Habitual Line Steppers (see Chappelle Show Rick James episode).
  11. Outdoor grass football is much better than synthetic field inside a garbage bag. But the Soldier Field turf is horrible. It's significantly worse than the high school field I played on. It's akin to the practice fields we used. It's a joke. Heinz Field is worse. But yeah, Soldier Field has been one of the 2 worse grass fields in the NFL since about 1990.
  12. http://www.seattlepi.com/scorecard/nflnews.asp?articleID=173278 A pretty decent preview of the Bears. Mentions Cutler being a "winner", but notes some of the same concerns that many people have.
  13. Should we start a "season" thread instead of having an offseason one? Granted it's not regular season, but it's clearly not OFF anymore.
  14. If you take out his 51 ABs in April where his OPS was .461, Pie has hit .309/.351/.495 for an .846 OPS. Since June 1, granted in only 55 ABs, his OPS is a fantastic .961. If the O's continue to hit him between Roberts and Adam Jones, he could end this season with some respectable numbers.
  15. Bears easily have the best LBs. Of course, I think the Vikings advantage on the DLine is as big of an advantage as there is at any position in the division. QB- Bears, Packers, Vikings, Lions RB- Vikings, Bears, Lions, Packers - I like Kevin Smith a lot, and I'd take him and Rudi slightly over Grant and Brandon Jackson WR- Packers, Lions, Vikings, Bears- if you include TEs and RBs in the pass game, the Bears pass the Vikings OL- Vikings, Bears, Packers, Lions - Bears OL will be improved, Packers OL gave up more sacks run games were similar DL- Vikings, Bears, Lions, Packers LB- Bears, Vikings, Packers, Lions DB- Packers, Vikings, Bears, Lions I will say though, that ranking like this really does nothing. The key is not who is better, but by how much. What if a team is so far better at a couple positions but a close 3rd everywhere else? Is it fair to give equal weight to having the best OL in the division and having the best DBs?
  16. Not crazy at all. Barring major injury or a severe decline from several players, I don't see anyway the Bears should lose more than 6 games with their schedule.
  17. It did say "barring an impressive offseason". I'd say this was about as impressive as could possibly be expected. EDIT: Actually, reading that post more, Jersey was dead on.... What the hell? I didn't edit that.

  19. I'm glad white athletes are starting to do stupid stuff now too.
  20. Interesting. I didn't think Aromashodu had much of a chance to make the team. A lot of people thought he would really do a lot more on the Colts. He had 7 catches in 07, and looked to be a strong 3/4 in Indy depending on Harrison, but never saw the field in 08.
  21. Oh my god that's disgusting. I have pined for Theriot and Bradley at the top for OBP purposes. I don't think its that bad really except that the bottom 3rd looks very very anemic... If you wanted 2 guys at the top for OBP purposes it should have been Fukudome and Bradley. With Ramirez out, I'd go. Fukudome Theriot Bradley Lee Soriano Fox Soto Fontenot
  22. I think he's safe for one more season. Many argued all off season that the Bears needed a veteran WR. Well, Rashied is as close to that as it gets. If the Bears cut Rashied, they have essentially a roster of 4 rookie WRs (as Bennett and Rideau have had 0 catches between them in probably less than 30 plays on the field between them) and Hester who has played 1 season as a full-time WR. I think the Bears will keep 6 WRs, first of all. Secondly, I think they keep Davis around because he does provide some experience and special teams ability. Davis also has shown he can be servicable as a slot WR, more than anyone else on the roster. I don't see the harm in keeping him on, starting him off as the 3 or 4 WR and easing him out of the regular rotation as Iglesias, Rideau and Knox get more comfortable with the playbook.
  23. In his interview with Mulley and Hanley the other day, he guessed that he might have seen more 3-4 than 4-3. Last year, Cutler faced 3-4 defenses from: San Diego (twice), New England, Miami, Cleveland, and NY Jets. 3 games w/ rating over 90. 2 with ratings under 70. One in the middle. His bad games coming against the 2 best defenses, his good ones coming against the worst defenses. In 2007, he faced only SD twice and Pittsburgh. In those games he turned in the worst performance of the year and a mediocre game vs. SD. But he also turned in what I think was the best game I have ever seen him play vs. a very good Pit defense going 22-27 w/ 3 TDs (2 INTs) and 41 rushing yards in a comeback win. So, Cutler hasn't had nearly as many games vs. the 3-4 as he thinks and it has come w/ mixed results.
  24. I think you're right, but Cutler is going to be amazingly expensive. Rivers is very likely to get a larger contract than Eli did and if Cutler has a good to great season and leads the Bears into (or especially deep into) the playoffs, he'll probably get more than Rivers. He'll be worth it, though. It will be interesting. I don't necessarily know that Rivers gets a bigger contract than Eli. Rivers is the better QB, but Eli has a ring. You can say the D and Plax led Eli to a title, but Rivers couldn't get there with a similarly strong defense and the best RB of this generation, LT. On one hand Eli, Roethlisberger, and Brady got big deals because of titles (Brady did prove to be great after winning). But guys like Peyton and Vick got big deals based on their talent. Rivers isn't as elite as Manning is leading an offense. He's not Vick athletically. And he doesn't have a ring. I wouldn't be surprised if despite being the better QB, Rivers doesn't get as much as Eli. I'd imagine Cutler will get whatever Rivers gets though.
  25. It depends on the injury. Hamstring, just hydration and stretching should help prevent those. The torn bicep he had last year, maybe just strengthening the muscle would help. Torn ACL, I don't know if you can do much to prevent or change the risk of it happening. There's really no explanation why some people seem to be more prone to these things than others.
