  1. Yeah, I considered the Pack's schedule harder for a few weeks now. At NE and ATL while the Bears have tough teams at home is in the Bears favor. Whoever has the hardest game of PHI/NYG is probably determined by this Sunday's game. NY has some injuries and could really start to fade, making that a much easier game for GB. But you also have to consider that GB/Bears play head-to-head in GB which gives GB that advantage also.
  2. Nick Johnson has actually played 130 games 3 times in the last 5 years. Granted the other 2 years he only played 62 total, but he's not Greg Oden. And someone mentioned him "approaching" a .400 OBP. He's only gotten on base LESS than 40.8% of the time since 2005, and that was last year's .388 in 98 plate appearances, when he only hit .167. He's damn near a lock for .415.
  3. Really? I'm thinking I want NYG to win, because the Bears already lost to them and if they have to compete for a Wild Card spot they are screwed. That's another way to look at it. Especially since the Giants and Eagles play twice. Best case scenario would be one of those teams sweeping the season series.
  4. DeSean Jackson scares me more than Vick. He lit the Bears up last year for 8 catches, 107 yards, including a 48-yard TD. Maclin also had 6-64. Vick did have a 34-yard run though in 1 of his 2 plays. But the Bears will be able to gameplan for him more this time as the starter. The blitz schemes they can throw at the OL also worry me, along with the fact that Asante' Samuel can completely take away whichever WR he is covering. The Bears D matches up well vs. Vick though. The front 4 generally does a good job of staying in their lanes and pursuing down the line. Peppers and Melton are more athletic than most DL that Vick will face. Plus, the Eagles have some small skill players. I think if you lay some good solid hits on Vick, Jackson, Maclin and McCoy they can be hurt and/or slowed down. I'm hoping the Eagles beat the Giants this week, which (for the time being) would make this game for a potential bye week in the playoffs. Can't believe I'm actually saying that.
  5. Playcalling has been better recently, pass protection has been better, Cutler has made some great throws lately (i.e. the out to Olsen on 3rd last night), Guys have made some nice catches (Hester has got to a couple low ones, Bennett and Olsen have made some key grabs too), and 3rd downs seem to have been more manageable. It's been a total team turnaround on 3rd downs.
  6. You mean like he has all year. Exactly. He's easily been the best safety on this team. Now that's a hotly contested title, if only because the barriers to entry are so low. I'd argue he's been the best DB. I guess DJ Moore could have an argument, but he's only in 1/2 the snaps.
  7. As in finally getting the stats to match with the level he's played at all year?
  8. You mean like he has all year.
  9. What the hell? Whistle has been quick all night.
  10. Weak ass holding call.
  11. I hope the Bears don't score some for them though.
  12. Good call on the blitz. I want a shutout now.
  13. Wow. Forte is running excellently. Hitting the hole hard. Garza has been an absolute beast on the right side.
  14. I got a chance to make a couple trades before our trade deadline. My current lineup: PPR League Qb- Vick RB (start 2)- Ray Rice, Knowshon Moreno, LaGarette Blount, BJ Green Ellis WR/TE (start 3)- Calvin Johnson, Fitzgerald, Garcon, Tamme, Sims-Walker I got a chance to trade LaGarrette Blount for Marques Colston. I could probably then trade Colston or Fitz for a RB. Mendenhall is possible, though I'd have to add Garcon. Would you do either or both trades?
  15. Doesn't prevent it, but almost certainly will. What makes you say this? Are you basically saying this is a bad move because it will be the only move? That's a little (by a little I mean a lot) of an assumption.
  16. Prisco hasn't picked the Bears game right either way since Week 4. So, that works for me.
  17. I'm going against the grain here. I'd take Chris Davis for Castillo or Chirinos. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that Davis does have some position flexibility. From what I understand, he's OK defensively at 1B. He also played 3B primarily when he was sent down to the minors this year, and has made progress there according to Rangers personnel. He also played a couple innings in LF. So, you're talking about a 24-year old, with all kinds of power, a great minor league pedigree, and with the ability to play 3 different positions where he's not going to kill you defensively. Best case scenario, you can get a young power hitting starting 1B. Worst case, you get power and flexibility off the bench. Getting Davis doesn't prevent the Cubs from still going out and getting a 1B (probably Pena or Nick Johnson on a short term deal) because he doesn't cost a thing. I think this is exactly the type of move the Cubs should make. If it's Chirinos, he's older than Davis and profiles as a backup C.
  18. I'm hoping for 2 out of the next 3. So, I'd take a loss tonight if it means they beat the Eagles next week (and win @ Detroit). The Eagles game is a bigger game because its vs. an NFC contender anyway. I just feel like they are only going to beat the Eagles if their recent improvement is real and they don't keep suffering setbacks. And a loss to a depleted Dolphins team would be a setback. Obviously I would much prefer a win over Philly to a win over Miami if I can only get one. But if they are going to get to 10 wins, I don't see it happening if they lose to the Dolphins. Agree to some extent. But I also didn't see 10 wins if they lost to Seattle. Then again when they lost to Washington. But yeah, winning 4 of 6 with this schedule (after a loss tonight) is much more difficult than winning 6 of 10 or whatever they needed after Seattle.

  20. Keys to the game. 1. Special teams. A lot of focus is on Hester breaking the return TD record in from of 40 of his friends and family back home. But even if he never touches the ball, the Bears have a HUGE special teams edge. If Hester doesn't touch the ball, it will be because Miami is punting or kicking off out of bounds and giving the Bears the field position advantage. On the Bears side, they need to keep Miami on a long field as I don't think they are a team that can put together long drives against the Bears D. 2. QBs outside the pocket. Cutler has shined the last 2 weeks when outside the pocket. Whether running or throwing on the run. Thigpen is probably even more dangerous outside of the pocket. The Bears DBs have to stay disciplined on their receivers. I don't know how much Urlacher will be able to spy because Miami has decent pass catching TEs he will need to help out on. 3. Turnovers. Gotta win the TO battle on the road. Thigpen is prone to turnovers. So, is Cutler. But the Bears D is one of the best at forcing them, and Miami has played strong D most of the year, but they aren't giving their offense short fields by taking the ball away. The Bears can't help them out the way they did the Redskins and Lions.
  21. I still think Purdue has a deep NCAA run in them. Even without Hummell, I think they're a Final 4 team.
  22. Not that Fukudome is the greatest player on Earth. But I think the difference between the Cubs competing for the playoffs and trying to hold off the Astros for 4th place, strongly hinges on whether or not the Cubs trade Fukudome. The alternative is probably Colvin 150 games/year. And the offense is that much more likely to NOT get on base enough next year.
  23. The Colts put Jennings on Marshall most of the day last year. Marshall had 21 catches for 200 yards and 2 TD's. Jennings has surprised me this year. He was literally the worst CB in the NFL last year. That's my opinion, but it's my completely honest and uneducated opinion.
  24. Any idea where the Braves are going to play Uggla? I assume at 2B with Prado at 3B, but what happens if Chipper comes back (thought he was leaning toward 1 more year)? None of the 3 can play SS. Edit: per ESPN, Prado may be asked to play LF!
