  1. What's the point in comparing this to 2006?
  2. A home game is the ideal situation, but I think Atlanta is more beatable, despite their overall and home record. Doesn't matter though. I'll feel confident in the Bears chances either way, if they get there by beating the Seahawks convincingly.
  3. I agree with all of this. There's really no reason for Seattle to change anything they did last time. Especially, after the Packers had some success doing some of the same things Seattle did against the Bears (blitzing DBs). Seahawks sacked Cutler 6 times, 4.5 of those from DBs and another from an OLB. They are going to bring the house again. Unlike last time though: the Bears can run the ball now and will have Briggs. I'd like to think that this is going to be like the Seahawks last 5 road games and the Bears win by at least 2 TDs, but I agree it's going to be tougher than expected. This is where Julius Peppers needs to earn his money. Need to get to Hasselbeck with the front 4. Leaving 7 to get some turnovers. On offense, quick hitters are going to be there. And the big play will be available, just as it was in the 1st game. Bears had 6 plays over 20 yards, along with a 58 yard PI penalty.
  4. I said I would root for the Packers, but I was pretty indifferent watching the game. I wasn't actively rooting for anyone, but I would say I wanted Philly to win more. Didn't really fear the Eagles either way.
  5. Maybe its my Cubs biased but I do not see the Cards as better than the Cubs... Cubs have more "if's" but the teams are equally talented. I do not see Garcia pitching like last year and I still believe Carpenter is a health question. Not to mention the defense they will be throwing out there 120 games next year. I love the Cubs pitching staff, as I have stated before, Z and Garza can out pitch any pitcher at any time. This will give the Cubs a better shot versus the Crew and Cards. I still do not really like the Reds pitching and think Leake and Wood will take steps back, as well as Arroyo. Yeah, those are the things I'm counting on to give the Cubs a chance. I don't see anyway those 3 Reds pitchers are close to what they did last year. The Cards still have their issues, and now get to have fun with Theriot in there for 162. The Brewers look good on paper, but they got no production out of SS, C, and CF last year....and it will be interesting to see how they handle McGehee and Hart coming back down to Earth.
  6. That's not very accurate. Off the top of my head, I thought the only games he played below average in were New England and the Jets games. But looking at the stats, he had 6 tackles, a sack, and 2 tipped passes vs. NE. I thought he played well vs. Detroit, definitely in the 2nd half. He was great vs. Minnesota (INT and nearly had another). And he was solid last week vs. Green Bay. I didn't realize the Detroit game was in December. Still, against the good lines of New England and New York he didn't have great games. The lines the Bears will see in the playoffs will be the better ones. I don't know if you can count NE as a bad game. I don't remember him playing that well, but the numbers are there. Not too concerned about that Jets game, because that was nearly as close to a meaningless game as the GB game was.

  8. This is suddenly a really solid division. The Cards aren't much better than last year's 86 win team. The Brewers added to very solid arms to a pretty good offense. The Reds are the reigning division champs and have an elite offense, but their pitching can always get Dustyfied. The Cubs are really going to need Ramirez and Pena to have the big bounce back seasons they are capable of having. I'm fairly confident in the pitching right now. If nothing else, the rotation of Dempster, Zambrano, Garza, and Wells don't miss many starts (assuming they don't get demoted to the pen or suspended for a month for fighting a teammate). Could get 750-800 innings out of those 4 at an above average level.
  9. Also worth noting, the Eagles are much more likely to build momentum with a win. The Seahawks haven't won more than 2 in a row all year, and were 2-6 on the road this year and all 6 losses were by 2 TDs or more.
  10. I wanted the Packers to win regardless of today's game because I think they have the best chance of beating Atlanta in Atlanta and giving the Bears a home gave for the NFC championship, if it came down to that. I didn't see the Saints being able to pull a win in Atlanta off twice in a month.
  11. I think he takes A step forward. The question is how big? I'm starting to warm up to the trade, as I think he will take a decent size step up to being the unquestioned best starter on the staff.
  12. Plus, 27 is the age when a lot of players put it together. The next 3-4 years are likely to be the best year's of his career because they will be his prime years. Changing leagues could help immensely too.
  13. Can't you say that about every team? Because isn't the main reason a rotation doesn't eat up innings is health? yes...but our guys all have a good track record of it. it wasnt so much an "if we can stay healthy" but more of a "if history has shown us anything" I knew what you meant. Just messing with you.

  15. I'm not that big on Guyer, Chirinos or Lee. The first 2 I don't see as more than career backups. Lee was the most expendable of the top prospects because he plays the same position as Castro and Lake, so I figured he was gone in any trade. All 3 were expendable due to the Cubs depth at those positions, but that doesn't mean they have no value. Archer is obviously the gem in this trade, and I would have like to have gotten it done with anyone but him. McNutt, Carpenter, Jackson, maybe a combination of 2 pitchers instead of Archer and Fuld, though Fuld is completely meaningless in this trade.
  16. This trade kinda sucks. Who is the minor league pitcher?
  17. Agreed. One thing I'm interested to see if what they do with Woodson. If they blitz Woodson every play like they did last week, and like has worked for other teams vs. the Eagles.....then I think they can potentially get killed by Jackson and/or Maclin. Asante Samuel vs. Greg Jennings is also a fun matchup. But I don't think the Eagles can really stop the Packers. Their other DBs can be exploited though, and I look for Driver, Jones, and Jordy to have good games.
  18. I'd go AJ Green too. I would also cut Steve Smith. He's only under contract thru 2012. Carolina isn't likely going to be good this coming year. They might as well see if the young guys can play and let Smith catch on elsewhere, before he has another season (next year) that completely ends his career. By the way, what happened to Carolina's OL? They were probably the best line in the league last year. Have they had injuries?
  19. It's not a good rule. There hasn't been anyone that benefited from this rule either, as every head coach that's been hired certainly was qualified with or without the rule in place. And in an instance like this, where Harbaugh is a high-profile "get", why you HAVE to interview anyone else seems redundant to me. That said, the Fins know the rules and before pitching Harbaugh, they should have already made their "courtesy" interview. Of course, they also should have went ahead and fired their head coach before doing any of this stuff to begin with, so they get a big FAIL all around. Tomlin? correct. the rule is needed until blacks in head coaching positions mirrors the percentages among players. art shell was the first black head coach in the NFL, the first in how many years of existence? it ain't clearing up overnight. you can't force white people to hire black people, but you can force them to have to listen for a second. The rule applies to all minorities. Ron Rivera also applies.
  20. I think they can walk out the front door, grab the first black man they see, interview him, and hence satisfy the rule. Certainly there would be backlash from something like that but I've never seen anything more than just "you need to interview one minority candidate." No they can't. Has to be a qualified candidate that can be legitimately able to handle the job. Well that's a bit subjective now isn't it. Has to be an NFL assistant or coordinator. Better? I assume the same would apply to a college coach in those same positions.

  22. Mallett, Dareus, and Ingram are in.
  23. Rex Ryan He talks a lot, but does he actually do those types of things on the field? I know the other two have no problem going against the status quo with stuff like going for it on 4th down. Ryan tried that stupid fake punt vs. the Bears. I don't know his history though. I could see him doing something like that. I wouldn't mind the Bears going with an onside kick, depending on the team they were playing.
  24. PFT and Rich McKay: Seems to defeat the purpose of the rule. Hell, every team has an opportunity for a possession. Every play the opponent runs is an opportunity to get a turnover.
  25. Yes, that's the assumption we've been going with these last few posts. Not 100% sure if that's the case though. That can't be true can it? The team that was to receive the kickoff never had a possession. They had a chance to have a possession, but never actually had the ball. I think if the team runs back the kickoff and the returner fumbles it, then that may count as a possession, but not getting an onside kick doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the rules.
