  1. I see Illinois fans are upset about the officiating this game. I will give you that there was a huge foul discrepancy in this game, but let's not act like officiating is why Illinois lost this game. The Illini lost because they let Jordan Hulls and Victor Oladipo get to the lane at will. They allowed 14 layups to IU out of the 21 baskets they scored. And many of the FTs were scored due to the guards' penetration. Seriously, Oladipo had 18 points and literally every single one was a layup or a freethrow made from being fouled going for a layup. On the other side, Illinois settled for the jump shot way too often, hoisting up 21 threes (19 when the game was in question). Hometown calls or not, that's how the fouls are going to go in a game like this. As for the Leonard fouls, I don't remember the first one. But he clearly tried to run thru that pick when he was frustrated. He also did commit a moving screen for his 4th foul. As for the elbow, that's also a foul on Leonard. His feet were not set and Zeller was aggressive with him. That's a foul in Bloomington, Champagne (sp?), or on Mars. Argue away.
  2. LUOL DENG IS AN ALL-STAR! A year too late, but well deserved. =D>
  3. How about Konz? I'm a huge fan of Konz. I'd love to have him, but I don't think it happens. The Bears re-signed Garza. They still have Spencer and Edwin Williams who can all play C. One interesting scenario would be drafting Konz, moving Garza back to RG and cutting Spencer, who makes a touch over 2Mil next year to save some money. But, Garza played better at OC than he has at OG in years. And I think C is the least important position on the OL.
  4. It would be a tough call, if Mike Adams is on the board at 19 and Michael Floyd is not. I'm not convinced that the Bears even want a Tackle for anything other than a veteran swing guy (a signing similar to Kevin Shaffer). But if they want OT/WR in the first 2 rounds, they have to go OT in the first. Mike Adams and Criner is better than Floyd and any other OT 2nd round or later.
  5. Everyone says that, but I don't see it. By all accounts, he has a good head on his shoulders. He's been praised for having a strong work ethic also. I know a lot is being made about "this" picture below. But an overweight WR is nothing that a training camp can't heal. I would be more worried about his ability to separate from defenders and get off of press coverage when smaller CBs get under his shoulder pads.
  6. Yep, said that about a month after you predicted Illinois to finish 4th in the conference. Do we really want to go thru who's said more [expletive] wrong in this thread? We're in charge of our own 4th place destiny!! Win out and 3rd is ours!!!! Congrats.
  7. I actually don't think the Floyd/Fitz comparison is very good, but I have seen it made by several scouts. I think Floyd is more Vincent Jackson than Fitz, as I don't see him with the hip fluidity that Fitz has. By that I mean, Fitzgerald runs routes like a little guy. He has decent straight line speed, but he can really turn and get in and out of his breaks quickly to create separation. I don't think Floyd has that ability.

  9. Don't sleep on Dane Sanzenbacher. Yeah, you probably should.
  10. Yeah, all things being equal, I'd rather have a big WR too. But not because he can go up and get the ball. Moreso because he doesn't have to create as much separation as a smaller guy, which helps in the 3-step game. Michael Floyd would be the ideal pick for the Bears at 19 because he can do a little of everything and has some Larry Fitzgerald potential.
  11. Yeah, "going up and getting the ball" is way down on the list of things a WR needs to be able to do. If a WR has to go up over a DB to make a catch, then either he didn't get open well enough or the QB threw a pass he shouldn't have made. The Bears need WRs to get open. The problem with the Bears WRs are Knox is only a straight line speed guy, no shiftiness to him. Hester has shiftiness when returning kicks, but is more of a straight line guy as a WR. Plus, he's nto very good at disguising his routes. I feel that Kendall Wright has straight line speed, is shifty, and is a lot tougher than people think. He's willing and able to go over the middle and can run after the catch.
  12. And you know your weiners huh?
  13. Cody's brother. All the Zellers are tools, what are you trying to prove here? That's his name. Cody's brother. He doesn't deserve to be called by his given name after the last 11 seconds last night.
  14. Cody's brother.
  15. Kentucky is really good. Only 3 wins have come by less than 13 since the loss to IU. There's almost literally 0 chance someone beats them in March.
  16. I don't think the OC split was that big of a deal. But I think the Tice offense will be pretty close to what Martz ran with changes in protections and hopefully maximizing the strengths of his players (QB, WRs, TEs, Forte). Tice comes from a similar background as Martz, while Bates is a west coast offense guy. Hopefully, Bates has some say as Cutler in a WCO has been/would be lethal. it's my understanding that the protections were all tice, if anything remains the same, it will be the protections. martz is a disciple of the guy who invented the west coast offense. Tice comes up with the protection schemes, but Martz called the plays. If Martz wanted to call a play with a 5 receiver route and no chip blocks on the DEs, he did. The protections are going to be the same, but they will presumably be better called which is basically the point. And yes, I meant the Bill Walsh/49ers WCO.

  18. Interesting. I always assumed it was Bates who turned down the job because he didn't want to be on a staff with a lame duck HC....which Lovie was at that point. Also probably means Angelo was the league source that said Bates wouldn't be considered.
  19. mikecwright Michael C. Wright Jeremy Bates does NOT get title of passing game coordinator, too, according to source. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  20. That's what I wonder as well. My guess is Bates handles it. Not sure what the reasoning was behind the name. Part of me thinks Tice didn't want a passing game coordinator title under him which could leasen his perceived status as OC. I would guess Tice had to be talked into this hire. I'm pretty sure Tice is trying to parlay this whole thing into a head coaching job somewhere. So, maybe it's just a title thing. Tice has never been an OC before, so I'd guess he'd want/need some help. I don't know that he would have been opposed to this hire at any point. I think that he and Bates can put their heads together with both having insight on Cutler's strengths and abilities, and come out with something good. Tice will get the bulk of the credit regardless, IMO. Because it's not like Bates is going to get something out of Cutler that he hasn't already shown before. So, whether Bates is passing game coordinator or not, I'm sure he'll have some say-so. I'd imagine they'd both call some plays at some point.
  21. I was starting to warm up to Alex Van Pelt. But Bates works, I guess. Anything that makes Cutler happy works for me.
  22. There's 1 more straw.
  23. What state do you think Purdue is in? Uh, they're wearing Indiana University gear.... Yes, and that's especially relevant because they definitely look like the college type!
  24. REMY EFFING ABELL!
