  1. Happy November 4th Bears fans. On November 4th, 1982 THIS GUY was born. On November 4th, 2001 THIS happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1w9S8Po4Zg' The best thing about that 2nd link are the Chargers leading WRs on the screen before the Bears highlights.
  2. /start pedantry Neither will win the Leaders division. OSU will (and can) win it. Hoosiers vs. Wisconsin is for the B1G title game berth /end pedantry Ok shoulda put lead the right to represent the Leaders division in the championship.
  3. Heisman finalists = Klein, McCarron, Barner, Te'o, and either Gene or Barkley. Top 4 represented, potential #1 pick as well. Easy invites
  4. Hoosiers v Wisconsin for Leaders division lead next week......seriously.
  5. To me the trade was good enough for no financials to change hands, if Haren is healthy. And it is embarrassing for a FO that plays everything so close to the vest to have these things blow up on them after already being leaked. And the Dumpster deal turned out to be not as good as the original on paper. So this doesn't give me much hope that the eventual return for Marmol will be any better, though if the Cubs sign Harden and get anything for Marmol it would be a win. The Dempster deal leaking had absolutely nothing to do with them. And you'd never know what we otherwise would've gotten for Maholm, but if you want to play that game, you'd be hard pressed to tell me that Dempster for Delgado and Maholm for whatever we would've gotten for him elsewhere would've topped Vizcaino and Villanueva (+ spare parts in both). And Haren is not healthy. The question is just how not healthy, which looks to be even more in question now than it did 12 hrs ago. How many times do they get passes though? It's always someone else's fault. But the Soler, Dempster, and Haren situations have a common denominator, the Cubs. And while this may happen a lot, it doesn't happen publicly a lot. Yet it has to a front office that prides itself on not letting these things happen. There is an issuer here clearly. Whether it's the FO or the people they a're giving info to, it looks bad.

  7. Bobcat beat the Pacers! LMAO
  8. Worst case scenario, the Cubs get 170-220 almost walk-free, slightly above average innings instead of 60-80 walk-filled, slightly above average innings.
  9. Yeah, potentially I would think. He's only 31. But he does have about 2000 innings on his arm in the last 8 years. He could be the best pitcher on the staff or his arm could fall off.
  10. Oh wow! It is all over Twitter. That's all it took? Excellent deal. Probably not straight up though.
  11. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/quick-reads/2012/week-8-quick-reads Interesting, but what's the root cause? Does our line get skittish? Is it because the opponent's DL is fresh? Is Cutty's 4th quarter excellence padded by some garbage time performances? How much of this can be attributed to variance vs. a legit trend? I demand answers, damnit! I just posted about this on my blog. READ IT! http://mr-irrelevantpgh-chi.blogspot.com/ But as you will read, I think it's a combo of everything. The OL has been terrible early. Cutler has compounded it by being skittish himself. Tice has made it even worse by dumbing the offense down for a couple drives after the rough starts.
  12. Taj is a really nice player to have and Boozer has been pretty disappointing with the Bulls, but no matter how I slice it, I really can't find anything to back up the idea that Taj is a better player than Boozer. Agreed, and signing Taj wouldn't do much to hinder the team. Acquiring a superstar would most likely have to be done via trade (or sign and trade) anyway, so he could be a pretty nice trading chip to someone, to help balance out the salaries and not have to take a crappy player in return.
  13. FWIW, my work in progress mock draft has the Bears taking 1. DJ Fluker, OT/OG, Alabama or Dallas Thomas, OT/OG Tennessee 2. Jordan Poyer, CB Oregon St 4. Jordan Hill, DT Penn State, though TE (not sure if a Toilolo, Stanford would fall here) or LB (Jon Bostic, Florida) are a potential picks here 5. LB (not sure who), TE (DC Jefferson, Rutgers is interesting) 6. Watchout for backup QB at this spot. I like Sean Renfree of Duke or Brad Sorensen of Southern Utah
  14. Eh. Barrett Jones is no stud. He's solid but not a stud like the Pounceys, Iupati, or even his teammate Warmack. Also as I stated yesterday, even with Melton 're-signed the Bears need a solid 3rd DT. Don't have much after Melton and Paea. Also Jordan Poyer is my man crush. My guy last year was Casey Hayward who has 4 Ints for the Packers
  15. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/article-1/Bears-rally-to-stun-Panthers-on-Gould-field-goal/0d2bda94-7967-4f0c-a41c-e95fcc262b70 Marshall has been great for projecting a better image of Jay out there (not that it really matters). It seems like he is constantly going out of his way to make it seem like Jay is a great leader, quarterback, teammate, etc. Literally every time he is being interviewed, his answers somehow include how great Cutler is for one reason or another. Most of the time, I feel like he is going overboard, but I think he knows the crap cutler gets is overboard, and he is trying to counteract that a bit. Yeah, that's exactly what he is doing. I think he's more blatant about it when there is a potential controversy such as the fan comment too.
  16. Eh, I don't see what's so bad about the trade. It's kind of a pointless trade, but I don't think it makes you any worse. Having Sproles on the bench doesn't matter when you have Ray Rice, who isn't going to miss a game. Gore might miss time, but you have his handcuff and Mendenhall who will be back by the time Gore misses time (if he does). With most of the bye weeks going off the boards, now is the time to make a 2-for-1 or 3-for-2 type trade, if you can get a star player in return. The only issue with this trade is even if Calvin blows up to last year's norm, he isn't going to be that much better than White. If you have a hunch that Calvin will get a bunch of those 16 TDs back from last year and White will fade to the clear #2 behind Julio Jones, then I'd do the trade. But if not, I don't see the point.
  17. That's what Walter Football had mocked this past week in the first round. I think they go DT or LB in the first round. The only reason why I don't think they go OL in the first is due to them selecting at the bottom of the first when all the first round LT players are off of the board. They'll be able to find a C or Guard in the second/forth round. Now that I think of it, is it too early to start a 2013 draft thread for us draft geeks? I don't mind the pick of Eifert, but there will be quite a few TEs in FA this offseason. Keller, Cook, Dickson and Pitta (doubt Ravens will keep both since they are RFA) to name a couple. Also, there will be some OLs as well. It'll be an interesting off season for Phil Emery. Looking at Walter Football mock draft... 2 guys that I like Bears to draft in the late first are Kawann Short (if he somehow drops and like him more than Richardson) or Barrett Jones (a rare OL who can actually play all 5 positions). Another way would be hope Manti Te'o somehow drop to mid teens then trade up to get him. I also like the trading down into the 2nd and gain a 3rd to replace the one Bears traded. Right now it looks like OLs/TE/MLB are a priority and in that order IMO. DT could be if Melton leaves or maybe a TY Hilton type player (bring back Johnny Knox if 100% healthy??) as the speedster WR and take over for Hester's return duties whenever he's gone/cut. I think Jermichael Finley will get cut by Green Bay also. Honestly, I think I'd take a shot at him. As much as he frustrates Packers fans, he could do it even more if he finally puts it together as a Bear. Rather spend the money at TE than an early draft pick, when the Bears have other needs. The OT FA class is loaded this year with Jake Long, Clady, Albert and Vollmer all FAs. Be really nice to get one of them. I'd rather draft OL consistently, but I can't imagine the Bears would jettison the 24/25 year old Webb just to put a younger player in there, especially after how Williams and Carimi turned out (though that was a different GM). I'd really like to bring in some young, early round CB talent. Tillman is going to be 32 and owed 8Mil next year. He and Jennings are FAs after 2013. Moore and Hayden are FAs after this year, so depth will be needed regardless. I agree with the desire for a speedy WR. Hester can't get off of press coverage enough to be a consistent deep threat, but that need is way down on the list of things. Should be the first year in a while the Bears won't draft a safety though, so there's that!
  18. Jay Cutler in the 1st quarter: 25 of 53 for 169 yards (3.9 ypa) with 1 TD, 4 INT and 29.5 rating Jay Cutler in the 4th quarter: 34 of 46 for 517 yards (11.24 ypa), 6 TD, 2 INT and 132.0 passer rating.
  19. Really good fit for this D. I am assuming the Bears will re-sign Melton (should be the priority of the offseason, and would prefer it not even get that far). But even if they do, it's just him and Paea at DT. Okoye is a FA again, wasn't re-signed last year, and isn't playing as well this year. Collins has been active maybe twice. Toeina has been active against only running teams. All 3 backups could be out. Even if 1 is brought back, they still need a good 3rd. I also like Bennie Logan (LSU) and Sharrif Floyd (Florida). If I had to guess, Id say Urlacher and/or Roach will be brought back, assuming Urlacher continues to improve. So, I don't think LB is an early pick. I think the Bears will also give Webb another shot at LT, if he continues to be not pathetic (unless they spend big on the position in free agency). And the Bears don't really value drafting interior OL early. But I wonder if they'd consider guys like Dallas Thomas or DJ Fluker who are experienced college LTs, who may wind up as NFL OGs (Thomas already playing LG for Tenn). Both would be slight reaches in the late first round, but could be worth the pick or be reason for a trade down to make up for the lost 3rd rounder.
  20. Id take Cook for a 4th. But Im also very afraid that the Bears get antsy this offseason and draft Eifert in the 1st round. Reeks of the Olsen situation of 07.
  21. Whats Perea's injury?
  22. But its in chicago and the Vikings arent any good. Though afnittedly Jared Allen could singlehandedly win the game vs the Bears tackles
  23. I've watched this on loop at least 10 times and can't get anywhere near what Bernstein picked out. What a tool. Looks like exactly what he said and I picked it out the 2nd time. I have no idea how anyone heard him though, doesn't look like he is screaming it.
