  1. I still can't see Edwards being behind Peralta (or even Maples) as far as intrigue goes. Yeah I'm assuming he missed him. But that was in response to all the other names brought up.
  2. Do you think Grilli would have been the closer out of ST? I don't. And the majority of the blown saves have been before the 9th anyway. Ill help. If Grilli would not have been given the 9th inning role, there wouldn't have been as many blown saves before the 9th because he would have been pitching in a lot of those situations.
  3. Pretty sure toonster meant the guys with the most upside going today....not overall. And I agree, Rhee has always been a guy I quietly had hoped for to be a ML arm. I've heard he throws so many different pitches well and seems to have pitchability. But he's had his injuries and issues.
  4. The 2002 (?) Boise rotation was pretty awesome. Andy Sisco, Ricky Nolasco, jae Kuk Ryu, Donald Veal (maybe), Luke Hagerty and Rich Hill also may have been on that team.
  5. Be nice if he could take hold of the nickel spot. I like Bowman and Hayden as backups on the outside. Still probably looking to add a slot CB either way though.
  6. Colts roster of TEs had 6 going into last year. 2nd and 3rd TEs is not an area to be worried about. Maneri and Adams both have a decent amount of experience, despite the lack of catches. Pope is not going to make a difference. He's old, slow and got beat out by a 7th rounder in Pittsburgh last year.
  7. Unless someone got cut, he'd be the 7th TE in camp. Seems odd. Bennett, Maneri are locks because of $$$ I would guess. Kyle Adams has experience on the roster and they've been raving about Fendi Onubun since the spring. May be keeping 4 TEs and no FBs. I thought TE was where the Bears had no depth. Wouldn't Pope be an upgrade? They have plenty of bodies. The lack of depth concerns probably stem from the fact that most of the world doesn't know who Steve Maneri, Kyle Adams, Fendi Onubun, Brody Eldridge, and Gabe Miller are, and could probably ballpark that they've combined for 26 catches in their careers. And no, I don't think Pope would be an upgrade. He'll be 30 when the season starts and isn't much of a pass catcher anymore (not that he ever really was). Decent enough blocker, so maybe Maneri's struggling in camp. Haven't heard either way.

  9. I don't think it's that out there to suggest that his first half gave the impression he could be a 2nd tier starting CF. I think someone, maybe Callis, said that as well. I mean, Brett Gardner had a .259/.345/.369 line, so offensively, it's not hard to think Szczur couldn't potentially do something like that. My thoughts exactly. I don't think he's anyone you go into any season planning on him being your everyday CF. But I also don't think it's bad enough yet where you take him off the 40 man without much better options. That being said, I do think he needs to start putting up better numbers. You'd like a guy with no power to display a stronger hit tool. He's not there yet. And he needs to get more efficient as a basestealer. Has 20 SBs, but has been caught 10 times.
  10. Needs to be a "kind of" option. I said "NO". But I can't really put my finger on why other than he's kind of a meatball. I still haven't gotten over him throwing Castro and Rizzo under the bus earlier this year threatening demotion.

    Castro

I don't think he's a 20% K guy. That number will go down toward his career norms as he gets more comfortable with this approach. BBs may not be ever more than 8% or so, and I'm OK with that.
  12. Typically where most of the injuries come. Wish they would have kept Carimi at least til the end of camp for this reason alone.
  13. Yeah, I know. I don't know why I put Iowa. Actually yes I do. I was going to say something about him possibly showing power in Iowa.
  14. To be fair to Szczur, the last time I thought a high level college WR should give up playing baseball for the Cubs and try his hand at the NFL, that player started on his way to becoming the Cubs ace. Plus, I don't think he's that bad. In a prolonged slump now, but he was a respectable/usable .292/.360 (avg/OBP) in the first half for Iowa. Of course he has no power to speak of, but the Cubs have kept Borbon on the roster so....
  15. You still had dialup in 2004? Yeah. It was still the most popular way to access internet from home.
  16. I had just moved to Pittsburgh about 2 weeks before the trade deadline and I was at the laundromat. I saw it on the bottom line on whatever channel was on there. I couldn't believe it because all indications were it was a no go before I left the house. So, I waited til it scrolled around again to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I had to wait like an hour before my clothes were done drying and I could go home and get on my dialup internet and find out the trade details.
  17. No one's gonna jump on this? Also, why would the Cardinals have an interest in Navarro? Tom Musick jumped on it. Keith Law tweeted that he would take Bros before him.
  18. And supposedly Trestman has already refuted Cutler. I think there will be read option, but I think Trestman will use it to create running lanes for Forte (threat of read option should take a player out of the box) or use it to exploit matchups in the playaction game also serving the purpose of getting Cutler out of the pocket.
  19. I actually just realized within the last 6 months or so that I throw a lot better completely overhand. I never noticed when I was younger that I threw 3 quarters, but a few months ago I was throwing a football and realized that overhand, I could throw just as far, harder, and typically with more accuracy. Not really sure how it's feasible to throw more accurately sidearmed, unless it's a matter of release point with a slider or something for a pitcher. *I never really had to throw much. Never pitched when I played baseball (3B, OF). Never played QB in football. And I always had a good arm distance wise, but velocity sucked.
  20. Yeah thAt's what I've been predicting would happen. Bostic in the middle. DJ at SLB.
  21. Mike Olt is 3-27, all singles, with 2 BBs and 10Ks as a Cub. Conversely, Villanueva has really taken off since Olt was acquired, even with the 0-5 yesterday.
  22. Obviously you hope he can get the K's down as he adjusts and all, but it seemed like a decent comparison. I'd take it. The question is whether Baez would go through similar struggles to Alvarez when he comes up to the majors. He does usually take a while to adjust to a new level. 100-150 PAs is a while?
  23. Alvarez bat speed is fine. I don't like the comparison because Baez has a significant speed advantage and should have a higher BABIP, more doubles and a hit for a higher avg. Plus Baez's BB rate is already similar to Alvarez's. I think Alvarez is a good comp if Baez doesn't develop any more than he is now....then he still will have the speed advantage.
  24. I fully know what Mike Olt looks like, build wise.....but for some reason for the last 2 years, when ever I read his name I have an image of Kevin Mench (with a normal size head) pop into my brain. Oh and Baez with a K swinging. 0-4, BB, K. Alcantara flied out. 3-4, BB.
