  1. Why take the ball first if u aren't going to do [expletive] woth it?
  2. It would be interesting if Cutler could win or even compete in this game missing 4 starters on offense, including 3 that played at an all pro level last year. Cutler has stepped up in a game like this in the past on Monday Night in Detroit, vs a then good Lions team. This defense also stepped up the last time they were unsure if the offense would be able to produce enough points to win. That MNF game in Green Bay last year, wasn't a complete shutdown of Lacy, but the pass rush was the best it was at any point last season and they took Rodgers out of the game. If Marshall and Jeffery miss, the offense will be all hands on deck. I'd like to see a lot of 2-TE sets, a lot of 2 RB sets to get Forte in the outside passing game and Carey/Draughn in the middle of the field, a lot of quick, short passes to get the ball in the speedy WRs hands and out of Cutler's. It's the formula the Colts used to beat the 49ers early last season in SF. Luck had 1 pass play over 20 yards and Heyward Bey was his leading WR. Also key in that game was the Colts didn't make any mistakes. 0 turnovers, 1 penalty. The Bears are going to have to be pretty flawless in those areas to have a chance, probably even if the WRs play. On defense in that game last year, the Colts didn't exactly stop the run game either. Gore got 7.5 per carry against them, but they were able to contain Kaepernick who also had a poor game throwing the ball due to a consistent pass rush. So it would be nice if Jared Allen does a good Robert Mathis impression tonight. It is worth noting though that the Niners didn't have Crabtree or Vernon Davis for that game. I still think this game is winnable. The 49ers aren't great. They gave up 5 ypc vs. Dallas last week. They gave up over 250 passing yards also and only scored on short fields after turnovers. Regardless of who plays, I don't expect the Bears to get blown out. I think guys like Briggs and Allen are pretty angry about their performance last week, and hope that motivates them to shine on a national stage tonight. The last time Cutler had a game with costly turnovers, he went out and played well the next game, albeit in a loss to NO last year. In fact, Cutler has not had back-to-back multi-INT games since his first year as a Bear. Based on his completion percentage in games after he throws multi-INTs, he seems to keep it more conservative and throw the ball away with a lot of sub 60% completion but 0 INT games.
  3. Gotta remember Fales is hurt too. He has a shoulder injury and hasn't practiced since he played the entire final preseason game. Apparently, the injury isn't bad enough where the Bears can get away with putting him on IR. So, they are gambling that nobody claims an injured unproven QB that lasted about 190 picks in the last draft. Has til 5 tomorrow to get claimed or they'll be able to stash him on the practice squad. Fiametta is also injured so the same gamble is there with him too, though he can't be put on the practice squad.
  4. Flip a coin. That was both a 1st down and not a 1st at the same time.
  5. Does this mean that 2 of Jeffery, Marshall or Morgan are likely out tomorrow? Not necessarily. Only Holmes is 100% and was on the team yesterday. Morgan is definitely out. Even if Jeffery and Marshall play, it's only 5 WRs. I'd imagine the plan is for Jeffery and Marshall to give it a go, one of Bellamy/Williams will be the 4 and the other will be there in case one of the starters can't play every snap. I'd feel much better had they only brought in 1 WR, but it makes sense why there were two.
  6. Really good game that's full of incompetence and nobody wants to win.
  7. Mid round guy before the season. But he's destroying people this year thru 3 games. I don't know that he goes before Tre Jackson, but he's definitely gone before the 2nd day is over, probably even 2nd round.
  8. Play 113 goes for a game winning TD. Just once I'd like to have a top 95 defense. That's all I ask.
  9. Bowling Green has run 88 plays vs IU with 13 minutes left in the game.
  10. Best minor league pitcher of Hispanic descent?
  11. Week 2 is so fun. Steelers went from a sure playoff spot and a good shot at the division to 6-10, firing LeBeau and a serious need to get a true stud draft pick in the top 10. Fans early in the season are so terrible.
  12. If the goal is the avoid the excessive summer rainouts, you have to leave the FSL. Didn't read the article. IS that the goal? Or is it something else?
  13. How long have the Cubs been in Daytona? I know a few years ago they were giving away free tickets for life for anyone who got a D-Cubs tattoo. Ooops. Also, I feel like the Carolina Mudcats are the most recognizable team in the Carolina League. I don't like that it's an 8-team league though. I'd rather stay in the FSL, but a different city.
  14. Lmfao. Between Briggs getting lit up, Collins doing some sort of waltz, some unidentifiable DL helplessly trying to avoid eating turf, Urlacher getting manhandled, and Conte's "Oh [expletive], better cover this guy" dash...this is probably my favorite Bears gif of all-time now. This is 5 defensive guys all getting destroyed in their own individual way. Pretty sure that's Amobi Okoye.
  15. I'm sure he will. I didn't think that I said he wouldn't. All I'm trying to say is that I could see players beginning to question him a little quicker than usual. Could even lead to him being replaced sooner than one would originally think. You said barring a complete collapse... I think that's on the table right now. Detroit looked good. Vikings looked good - better than I thought. GB will put it together in all likelihood. Beyond that it's SF, CAR, ATL, NE, NO. All of those could be losses. Let's say they go 2-4 in division, with another 5 losses outside. 7-9 in his second season isn't going to satisfy many people. It's a game worse than year 1. Another game like BUF and we're talking 6-10. What do you think anyway? I'm just curious. IIRC you were one who said Trestman might have more trouble if the team struggled. I've thought from the beginning that Trestman's touchy feely ways were something that could lose a team in a hurry, and given the parity in the NFL it wouldn't take much to knock a should be contender into a dumpster fire. He did more with the offense than I expected in week 1 and that sort of thing can allow him to keep his job a bit longer. However, I thought they were running the risk of completely losing the defensive veterans (already happened) and there are not enough young-uns to step-in. I still think Trestman is going to be walking a tight rope. Lovie got the most out of his guys almost everyday and the worst he ever did after his first year was 7-9, in part because he got the most out of guys and never lost the room. He commanded respect and at the very least he had a stable defense that kept them in almost every game. Of course it didn't do much more than that. I think Trestman's Bears are a little more susceptible to the disaster seasons and those can lead to quick turnover of coaching staffs, including the head coach. That's an interesting take. I think if anything, having a good offense will keep the Bears in games. Last year, the only game they weren't in was the Eagles game. Partly because the Eagles had a TD for every offensive play the Bears had in the 1st quarter, and not by virtue of an offensive turnover. But I guess I agree with the rest for the most part. One thing I would say though is I think Emery and Trestman will go together. If the offense is still producing, even in a diasterous 4-7 win season, Trestman will get a shot with a new DC. Emery seems to know the importance of Jay Cutler to this franchise, so if he is performing Emery is going to want to keep him in the same offense.
  16. Good week of games that nobody is talking about. Pit/Bal- division matchup, probably one of the 2 most physical rivalries in the NFL. Car/Det- 2013 playoff team vs. a hopeful team that can get there with discipline Mia/Buf- teams pulled off the 2 biggest Week 1 upsets NE/Min- contender upset week 1 vs. a dominant Week 1 winner. Brady v. Cassel Cin/Atl- 2013 playoff team vs. 2012 HFA team who pulled off a big win last week TB/STL- were trendy playoff picks before Bradford went down SEA/SD- 2013 playoff teams DEN/KC- 2 best teams thru first 10 weeks of 2013, division rival SF/CHI- big time contender vs. a lot of people's sleeper IND/PHI- 2013 playoff teams
  17. Uh didn't you read my bold predictions? Playoffs. Wildcard team. Kind of a limb, but I think 13/16 of the AFC kinda sucks.
  18. They just lost to Buffalo, whom no on even remembers the last time they were good, and they're about to get humiliated on national TV I just think its an interesting reaction. Most of these guys give you the ol' "Its only one game of 16" line. These guys are acting like they will get canned if it doesn't turn around quickly. In Tucker's case that's probably true. Definitely Tucker. But also consider Trestman. His first year missed the playoffs. Now there's significant adversity on the horizon. I'll go back to what some of us said when he was hired. There's no history of NFL coaching to fall back on. His success was in doing exactly what he's good at now: QB development. After that, what is there to say he's going to succeed at all the other things necessary to have success in the NFL as a HC? Not much. It's easy to see scenarios where people begin to lose confidence in him - and fairly quickly too. Players? Maybe. But the offensive players seem to like him and if they put up numbers (indications are that they will based on last week) they'll continue to support him. The only other guy that matters is the GM. And Emery is the one that hired him.
  19. Wright because he plays Dallas.
  20. Floyd, but those are all decent options.
  21. You like Jacksons huh? I'd probably go Colston and DeSean, with Fred a close 3rd.
  22. I don't know if this bodes well for the Cubs' future, but they were the only Cubs farm team not loaded with top hitting prospects for most of the year (did briefly have Schwarber). They had the best pitching in the minors though, giving up much fewer runs than any other full season minor league team.
  23. Anybody a fan of Travis Kelce's potential? I picked him up off waivers and dropped Dwyer (figure even if/when Ellington goes down it will be a tandem of Taylor/Dwyer with neither guy being all that impressive). Thinking about starting him in the flex spot above - thoughts? I wouldn't start him above those guys until he does something, but the potential is there.
  24. These are my two QB's, too. Why in the world would you not start Rodgers? Injuries on the o-line for the Packers and the Jets defense is better than the Chargers defense. I think it's a toss up You didn't draft Rodgers in the 2nd or 3rd round just to put him on your bench. Win or lose, you have to go with the guys you picked in the first 4 rounds unless it's like midseason and the guy obviously isn't your best option (i.e. Spiller, Rice last year).
