  1. A trip to the ER doesn't equal being hospitalized. So like if the guy has a vasectomy or something is he supposed to alert the media?
  2. I enjoy the channel also and get lots of laughs listening to Dibble. The bonehead was talking about "Wrigley Stadium" the other day.
  3. I got XM radio for Christmas - haven't turned on the Score since.
  4. Katz elaborated in his blog to the same extent, that it's very unlikely that Few leaves Gonzaga, and Calipari too with Memphis(although that was in reference to the Mizzou job, so who knows with a more prestigious job) I'm sure it would be difficult to pry him away, but it doesn't mean IU doesn't sniff around. Few would be crazy not to at least listen to people about jumping to a program as storied as IU. I'm sure John Stockton will do everything in his power to keep Few at Gonzaga. I want to be the first Iowa alumni to come out and say I will not do everything in my power to keep Alford at Iowa.
  5. Sosa's agent says we've seen the last of him in uniform. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2332063
  6. Amen to that brother! Oops
  7. Amen to that brother!
  8. Vance, Sledge isn't with the team anymore, and it's possible that Guillen won't be ready for the beginning of the season. So what you're saying is that Guillen is injured and might not start the season?
  9. I heard a Nat's beat writer on MLB on Xm yesterday say the Guillen is injured and might not be ready to start the season.
  10. Typical Illinois fan. oh jeez, if iowa had won back-to-back outright titles, you guys would be saying the same thing. plus iowa has always been our chief rival, imo (having grown up on the border), and the blood will always be bad between fans of the two teams. Gotta agree with that - I had a roomate at Iowa during the Chuck Long years who- if you ask him today what his single greatest moment as a Hawkeye fan was will say 11-9-85. Iowa 59 - Illini 0 and it wasn't even that close. Thats how bad the blood is.
  11. Absofreakinglutly What is Williams doing, giving other GMs a date rape drug and then taking pictures? If this is in the works, it would seem to put some stock in the theory that Philly just wants to move Abreu to change the look of their team. It wouldn't make any sense to trade him for older players who are nowhere near great. Philly's hopes lie on the shoulders of Utley and Utley, plus maybe Burrell. The first two could provide top 3 in the league production from their position at a very far below market price. The pitching is what's lacking, but Myers and Tejeda are a nice start. I just don't think they are in any sort of position to trade Abreu for a pitcher like Contreras, who is not consistently good, or Dye, who is older than Bobby and far less productive historically. Is this like when the Cubs had Patterson and Patterson? :) No, that what's it's like when I am drunk and drunk. Obviously I meant Howard, but I got distracted with "work" while writing and must have lost my place. If we could just quit that damn work we would have a lot more time for baseball
  12. I have eaten at the Friday's at Miller Park in left field during batting practice which is cool - don't want to focus too much on your sandwich or you could take one on the noggin! But they do come around before the game and ask you to leave because the seats are resereved for the game.

  14. I think that sources prediction was a bit unrealistic, expecting improvement out of a pitcher Maddux's age. But he's going to have a better year if only because he'll be given a spot all year long, while Williams will have to unfairly battle with Rusch for time. The key for Maddux is to keep that HR total down. The control is still there, but that HR total doubled from career norms in the 2003-2005 timespan. [edit - I mean doubled per year, not doubled the career total] BTW - Didn't the Bill James endorsed pitching prediction give Maddux a similar 2006 line? Correct me if i'm wrong but the pitching predictions are in the Bill James abstract but i don't believe he endorsed them. I believe he said it couldn't be done so other members of his staff did them.
  15. The Red Sox intend to platoon Youkilis at 1st Base with Snow, in addition to spelling Lowell on certain days. I believe Youkilis had 1 hr and 9 rbi's last year - god knows he can walk though.
  16. That's the last conference game, so you're right no matter what. true, ok if we win one more big road game I think we win the conference. Either OSU or Michigan. Actually, the Wisconsin loss tonight opens up the door for Iowa, as if all the top 7 teams win out at home and don't slip up (any more?) against the bottom 4, Iowa finishes 12-4 and wins the conference outright. 5 teams would tie for second at 11-5, and OSU would finish 10-6. I'm an Iowa grad and a lifelong Hawkeye fan but I don't see that happening. Being an Iowa basketball fan the last few years has been a little like being a Cub fan - you just sit around holding your breath waiting for the worst to happen.
  17. Marco was getting double-teamed, Cacique. That should leave a player in good shape for an open shot. With Kline as your 5 for most of the second half and Suhr playing over 20 minutes, Iowa was able to take advantage of multiple mismatches. Kline may be 6-8, but he plays like he is 6-4. That said, Indiana had NO ONE on the floor that could matchup with Brunner OR Hansen OR Haluska. Indiana was only down 3 points at the half, and Killingsworth was taken out of the game soon after the beginning of the second half. You can cuss Killingsworth for not finding the open man, but you will NOT win with on the bench. The game was not over when Davis benched Killer, IMO... I'm all for benching him for a couple of minutes when he isn't in foul trouble (or tired) to prove a point. Benching him for ten minutes in that scenario is a death sentence for you team when there is no legitimate 4 or 5 on the court. I was at the game and couldn't believe they were keeping him on the bench. Hansen and Thomas played him pretty good at the start but if IU had continued to pound it in there I'm not sure they could have kept it up for the whole game. At the same time Marco was finding some open guys early but they just weren't hitting their shots. Seemed to me that Davis panicked and went away from his game plan at the first sign it wasn't working.
  18. How did you know he was whining if you didn't read it in a newspaper? And if so didn't that change your opinion of him?
  19. Agree. Agree. As much as I would just like to spend my time here mocking Bear fans - you guys had a great year and exceeded all expectations and while I am not an expert on your roster you would seem to have a pretty good group coming back and a decent coaching staff. Sometimes these things take time - do you know how many times the Packers got their a-- kicked by the Cowboys in the mid 90's before finally getting the monkey off their back? Patience my friends!
  20. I think the Bears need to completely start over at TE. Draft one early. Sign a FA. Draft one late. I don't think they need a possession WR. I really don't know what that means. I think Muhammad, Berrian, and Bradley are a very good start. I don't understand the love for Randle El. He's not better than the first 2 and I wouldn't want to play him over a healthy Bradley. And you still have Currie. I don't want to pay Twan for his punt returning abilities and being a #4 WR. Gage needs to go, though. I agree with the defensive needs. Brown and McGowan are a good start at SS. Harris should be back at FS. It would be nice to get a veteran FA to start over Harris though. I want a new SS. You want to get rid of Mike Brown? Why? Replace with who? Brown cannot stay on the field, even after taking 7 weeks off for what should have been a very meh injury. He's great when healthy, but in football (unlike baseball), every game means so much more, and you can't rely on a guy who just cannot complete a season (or a PLAYOFF game) in that kind of role. The SS in that defense is so important, and it has to be played by a regular, not a backup. I'm not saying spend money on a SS. Draft a SS on day one, along with a TE and a O lineman. I thought we were all set to play Ronny Cedeno at SS?
  21. Just what has he accomplished? One lucky 89 win Division title? Hiring Ed Lynch? Giving Sosa that ridiculous contract that handcuffed Hendry last year? Or simply keeping the Tribune Corp. suits and beancounters happy? IMO, MacPhail deserves as least as much of the blame for what the Cubs have sunk to as Baker and Hendry. I'll admit the contract did handcuff Hendry last year - but at the time it was signed (March 2001) would anybody have done anything different? I doubt it.
  22. Huh? I thought the Penguin lived still. Reports of his demise have been greatly excagerated.
  23. I wouldn't have been looking to move him in the first place. Paying $16M for him to play elsewhere was silly to me. If I had to move him, I sure as hell wouldn't have devalued him the way the Cubs systematically did. The only thing we know is that last year's formula didn't work to get the Cubs in the playoffs. So, I don't want to hear that Sosa would have made the season any worse. Let me repeat myself - JHJ was a better player last year than Sosa and will be again this year.
  24. Leverage, what leverage? As Bruce Miles stated on this forum just a few days ago Corey was not a hot name at all throughout the baseball world. Well, you've made the point for me. He had no leverage. At all. Thus, it makes more sense to gamble into creating some leverage through 1) better play at the ML level; 2) better play at AAA; or 3) need created though injury in ST or the first part of the season. Negotiating is all about leverage. Trading players without any is just stupid when you know a player has talent (e.g. Corey). If it were some clown like Macias, when you are unlikely to get anything more than you've seen over his stay with the Cubs, then the likelihood of gaining leverage is low if not non-existent. But, that isn't the case with Corey. It is bad negotiating, pure and simple. It is always easier to make comments like this after the fact. Why, pray tell, is that the case? I have been anticipating this lackluster move (as have many) since October. Hendry moved Sammy at his lowest value (and, in fact, contributed to lowering his value). Hendry is more interested in a clean clubhouse rather than addressing messes that he had his hand in manufacturing. Don't try to diminish my point by making me appear as if I am only preying on hindsight. It doesn't take a clariavoyant or baseball executive to derive the opinion that this was a trade in which Hendry would be hard pressed to get less value at a later date. I am 100% certain that Hendry at some level decided to move Patterson prior to the Convention so as not to repeat the 05 Sosa debacle. His moves regularly have a tinge of panic to them as of late. When would you have moved Sosa? After the 2003 season?
